I also using a PrivateVPN and not those Open VPN. I'm comparing speed even for my company's proprietary privateVPN. Compared to normal surfing, the VPN does significantly slowdown esp obvious when I stream an 1080 HD YouTube.

Netflix will adjust it's video quality according to network speed. I suggest you to try a speedtest using your VPN then you will have some idea of it.

DNS bro.
UnoDNS is a private DNS first before a VPN service. Have you actually checked their site?

And I know Netflix will adjust its vid quality according to network speed. With a direct DNS on a unifi 10mbps, I get 7.7mbps down from a server in San Fransisco. It's more than fast enough for Netflix's highest streaming option available.

Well... yes. But, the 360 isn't entirely region free in the first place, so~

There two type of locking on Xbox 360 that I've encountered. One is IP lock, which just check for your IP to see if you're from the 'right' places. That, maybe can easily avoided by using VPN or the DNS solution. The second one, however, involve console locking. It check if your console match the content you're trying to download first. If it didn't match, it won't allow you to download at all, even if you're using VPN/DNS.

Oh this is new info for me. The first lock i assume would be for something like games on demand right? How about the 2nd one? What kind of content is locked in that kind of way?

The first one usually applies to DLCs, but may extend to contents offered through GoD too. The second one, last I check, applies to region locked games, such as, in my case Catherine. You can download the asian version, but it's fully Japanese, or the US demo, but not the US full game. Tried buying on both console and website with VPN connected and it just gives me error about console region (which unfortunately I forgot what it specifically said).

Eh odd that it allows you to get the demo from US store but not the full game. The asian version of catherine is full japanese without english subs? Damn would be nice to get a japanese game with the original VO with subtitles haih blush.gif .

The US English demo was only downloadable when you're on VPN. If you didn't use it, the only demo is the Japanese one.

Sorry my bad I didn't read properly but UnoVPN do exist and this is what I thought when I reply..... oh my..... doh.gif

Based on some unpleasant experience on DNS based service (of course not UnoDNS), I still prefer a VPN and avoiding some odd hours (usually midnight).... At least I will not have problems downloading apps from XBL and no one will probe my IP easily

I don't see anywhere on UnoDNS page saying that downloading region locked contents (games & DLCs, not movies/music) are enabled. Or did I missed something?

You guys can try it out first and see the QoS of UnoDNS. It's free anyways for a week, you don't even need to put in any payment details.
Just sign up and there, 1 week free. You lose nothing.

I've been happy with UnoDNS for a few months now. Not using it just for downloading, but for better latency as well.

One thing to clarify, The Uno DNS already stated in their FAQ (and by logic, the nature of DNS function...) that you CANNOT download applications that is IP locked from the DNS, that's why they also c/w UnoVPN for this sort of usage.

In short, if you wanna download US DLC from XBL, avoid this or take the VPN bundle.

Chill out you guys, who knows maybe we will be getting Xbox next in Malaysia officially this time? After all, that's what Steve Ballmer said.
