eeee finally a thread to discuss my asus baby.

Alright, let me point out some real good points of this mobo in OC:

1.Hassle free with bios, constant update of bios.
2.No worries about northbridge cooling.
3.Provide sufficient voltage range for decent OC ( Yeah, i mean for air )
4.AI Overclocking ( Er..Guess none of us really need this )
5.Backup Bios bla bla bla ( No worry when crashing ur system thumbup.gif )

This is the Vcore ranged supplied:
My stock vcore : 1.35

It gives me : 1.35 , 1.365 ............ 1.5V

Vdimm:Gawd...forgot liao ><..around 3 V i think

Just read tis... Some says The PCI Slots not enuf power cannot support DVB-S Card

ya, quite agree with the auto bios reset and hold down insert key feature to reset bios, no need to open the side panel and pull out the jumper, which i quite frustrated doing so in other mobo, when OC too much FSB the sys failed to start... thumbup.gif

Well...do not ever pair this mobo with LianLi VB1000 series... putting the mobo upside down

The logical air flow by Asus is inverted..u will get negative cooling effect on the heatpipe

but i dont really see a prob if paired wif V1000, cos the cpu fan can blow some air
towards the heatsink on top of the mosfet, the again, the hot air can be suck out from the casing fan.

What he meant is that in an upside down orientation, the heatpipes might not work properly since some heatpipes only work in certain directions. I don't know about the one on the A8N-SLI Premium tho.

The chipset voltage and HT voltage is meant to increase chipset stability when overclocking high. I think it didnt effect CPU voltage

EDIT: I was wrong,at first I thought it uses the new nForce4 SLI X16

i think i'm in a good section here...here's mine after oced wif my combined 512MB Kingston KVR DDR400, 1st module is Micron -5BG n Elpida dunno wat type though.here's the detail, in order to get even higher CPU FSB, i have to decrease memory frequency from DDR400 to DDR333, before that, with DDR400, i only manage CPU FSB @ 220x9, which only get 1980MHz@1.9GHz,beyond that, not stable... sweat.gif .so, after doin some research n experiment, i decrease the mem frequency index under bios menu, n set to 333MHz, n get 277x9 @ 1.45VCore/2.9VDimm,3x HTT.long story short...here's the screenie...

i wonder, my external clock speed supported is 3.70GHz, my bro Core oni 3.0ghz, can u guys explain this?mine is venice n so is his... AMD Athlon64 3000+

user posted image
after 38% oced... dunno if i can get even higher than this...

that's ntune screenies...

ok guys, any comment?suggestions?

btw, i'm using 350W Enermax FMA for this experiment, perhaps wif liberty 620w can get even more?or anything else?

Anything below 1.6V should be okay. If you have watercooling, you could go til perhaps 1.65V.

owh ok...
my prob is, i tried to OC 1:1 n using clockgen, i only can get as high as ±240MHz, dunno y, beyond that it just hang...assuming it's from VCore, i tried to Overvoltage the cpu up to even 1.55VCore, still fail, cannot go beyond 240, even after i lowered HTT multiplier to 3x.
when using DDR333 instead of DDR400, same problem, cannot go any higher than 240, even after i decreased the cpu multiplier... rclxub.gif

nah...i successfully get 290HTT 1:1 after in increase the timing 3-4-4-8, its bootable n not stable though, so using clockgen to decrease the HTT to find wats the most stable, until i found that @ 290HTT, 32M PI Calculation will no result (NO EXACT DATA IN ROUND), @280HTT, 32M PI Calculation still fail, @270HTT successfully finish the 32M PI Calculation but not pass my minimum overnight priming until at 266HTT after increasing from 260HTT pass all the stress test.fyi, in gaming experience n benchmarking...i passed all the test, no artifacts tongue.gif n no hang or watsoever even at 280HTT@couple of hours... thumbup.gif
owh yeah...the VDimm for my new ValueRAM is 2.85VDimm

Lets bring up this old abandoned thread a bit since I am a new user of the A8N-SLI family. blush.gif

Has anyone ever tried flashing the BIOS for your A8N-SLI (non-premium) to the premium bios? brows.gif

Source: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=article...read&arc_id=111

QUOTE
ASUS A8N-SLI Bios Mod
Published on September 11th, 2006

Are you stuck with an old ASUS A8N-SLI (Non-Deluxe and Deluxe) motherboard? If you are, then we have some good news for you. As you probably know, ASUS has stopped releasing BIOS updates for these motherboards. The last BIOS update was at the end of 2005. We've discovered that it's possible to flash the Premium BIOS on the normal A8N-SLI motherboard, or even the deluxe version.

What will you gain from flashing the premium BIOS on the normal A8N-SLI?

* Updated BIOS with many fixes and updates
* Better support for memory modules
* Better overclocking ability
* Support for GeForce 7950GX2
* Ability to change chipset voltage
* Ability to change HT voltage

Before we tell you how to do it we want you to understand that you're doing this at your own risk! We are not responsible for any damage that may result. It also will void your warranty - so do it at your OWN RISK. We want to assure you that we already tested this and it works on our rigs. But still, we can never know what may happen on various setups and systems.

Now, to flash your current A8N-SLI Deluxe or non-Deluxe, follow these steps:

1. First of all, make a backup of your current BIOS.

2. Next, download this zip archive and extract it. In this archive you will find two files, the Award Flash utility (awdflash.exe) and the latest A8N-SLI Premium BIOS image (1302.bin). Put these two files and the backup of your current BIOS on an MS-DOS bootable Floppy/CD/DVD/USB Drive or whatever you prefer. Boot with it and type: "awdflash /QI 1302.bin" to begin the flashing procedure and follow the instructions on the screen (Ignore "The parts number does not match." message).

3. If you're using A8N-SLI (Non-deluxe) or A8N-SLI SE, you need to disable some features from the BIOS. Some of the features are not physically on your board and you need to disable it from the BIOS to avoid problems. If you're using A8N-SLI Deluxe, you need to ignore this part. This ONLY applies to A8N-SLI Non-deluxe users! Here are the features you need to disable:

* Onboard Marvell LAN
* Silicon Image SATA Controller
* Speech IC Reporter

After you have done that, you can enjoy the new Premium features.

I am just wondering about something, is there such thing as the heatpipe for the A8N SLI Premium on sale anywhere?Ok, the reason i am asking is that i am considering purchasing the A8N SLI Deluxe or the Premium and they look pretty much the same (appearance wise) except for the heatpipe.I love heatpipes and wondering if i could get the heatpipe and use it on the Deluxe version?I have checked the mobo layout and the deluxe and premium look pretty much the same...

very hard to find this mobo..or completely obsolete i think

a lil bit off topic..

has anyone (especially involved in organising asus mobo bulk) ever try to request or ask from the distributor or someone who often brings in asus stuff to see any possible chance of getting it? a8n-sli deluxe or premium or even higher end such as a8n32-sli deluxe or a8r32-mvp is ok for me... icon_question.gif

nice oc bro, i think your setting is the same as this guy in other forum:
Overclocking AMD 64 3000+ to 2.53

Asus A8N-SLI
Asus EN6800
1GB corsair Value DDR3200
Settings
HTT:4
DRAM set at 333 using 1T
CPU Multiplier: x9
FSB: 280
= 2.53 Ghz

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/38808/

myb can go higher like 2.7GHZ...just try google around..
