Lets bring up this old abandoned thread a bit since I am a new user of the A8N-SLI family. blush.gif

Has anyone ever tried flashing the BIOS for your A8N-SLI (non-premium) to the premium bios? brows.gif

ASUS A8N-SLI Bios Mod
Published on September 11th, 2006

Are you stuck with an old ASUS A8N-SLI (Non-Deluxe and Deluxe) motherboard? If you are, then we have some good news for you. As you probably know, ASUS has stopped releasing BIOS updates for these motherboards. The last BIOS update was at the end of 2005. We've discovered that it's possible to flash the Premium BIOS on the normal A8N-SLI motherboard, or even the deluxe version.

What will you gain from flashing the premium BIOS on the normal A8N-SLI?

* Updated BIOS with many fixes and updates
* Better support for memory modules
* Better overclocking ability
* Support for GeForce 7950GX2
* Ability to change chipset voltage
* Ability to change HT voltage

Before we tell you how to do it we want you to understand that you're doing this at your own risk! We are not responsible for any damage that may result. It also will void your warranty - so do it at your OWN RISK. We want to assure you that we already tested this and it works on our rigs. But still, we can never know what may happen on various setups and systems.

Now, to flash your current A8N-SLI Deluxe or non-Deluxe, follow these steps:

1. First of all, make a backup of your current BIOS.

2. Next, download this zip archive and extract it. In this archive you will find two files, the Award Flash utility (awdflash.exe) and the latest A8N-SLI Premium BIOS image (1302.bin). Put these two files and the backup of your current BIOS on an MS-DOS bootable Floppy/CD/DVD/USB Drive or whatever you prefer. Boot with it and type: "awdflash /QI 1302.bin" to begin the flashing procedure and follow the instructions on the screen (Ignore "The parts number does not match." message).

3. If you're using A8N-SLI (Non-deluxe) or A8N-SLI SE, you need to disable some features from the BIOS. Some of the features are not physically on your board and you need to disable it from the BIOS to avoid problems. If you're using A8N-SLI Deluxe, you need to ignore this part. This ONLY applies to A8N-SLI Non-deluxe users! Here are the features you need to disable:

* Onboard Marvell LAN
* Silicon Image SATA Controller
* Speech IC Reporter

After you have done that, you can enjoy the new Premium features.
