hi everyone, my car is a cheap flx, as you all know the soundproof really sucks, so i am wondering is it worth to spend some money to do the soundproof to the car?
is the effect significant? anyone who has his car soundproofed, do you recommend to others? did you regret? please share your experience, thanks

There are a couple of members at the Saga thread who have extensively soundproofed their cars, you can ask them there. To do it properly, it won't be cheap, a few grand at least.

slightly for fun or self satisfaction maybe.
but not really if u spend too much money, nvh will never on par with higher segment. better keep the money for future car upgrade.

after your sound proof improved, probably more sound will be significant. when you fix a sound, you will hear another soon.
most know that, but most also trying hard.

I soundproofed mine with dynamat. Cost RM 1k.
Definitely a lot of improvement.
Problem is now I hear sounds which I have never heard before - squeaks from the dashboard.
You can never win !

Not worth it.

Once your doors are sound proof silent - you will start hearing every damn creak on the dash, loose coins, loose plastic panel etc.

might as well let wind noise sound proof your car for you from all these noise

I think since Saga has a lot of plastic, you sound proof-remove outside sound, the dashboard, and stuff inside rattle. So no use also.

If wanna comfort ride.

In the 1st place shd change into quiet tyre and follow by normal doors + bonnet and behind dashboard sound proof cause usually the sound will enter from behind dashboard of engine noise and follow by wheel spin noise.

The rest can't help much.. Unless u change car smile.gif

At least soundproof give better audio experience and lesser strain when driving long distance.
Using cheap material is okay to balanced the NVH and funny sound from inside itself tongue.gif
Start with good engine hood sound proofing and 4 doors.

From my experience on preve is material is no difference with saga series.

Look like toy plastic on dashboard.

you need to be firm and clear on what you want and what you're getting.

let me ask you this, to fully sound proof a car typically cost between rm1k to 10k or so.
any "higher segment" car with DECENT STOCK sound proofing cost between 100-300k and beyond not including a long term high interest rate bank loan.

do you need mathematics lessons to calculate which is cheaper?

yeah thats what i did - hood and doors, although i only sound proof 2 doors, f*** the rear door.
however i've surprisingly gotten good comments that my rear doors are solid too... that's probably due to the new rubber linings/seals i've replaced not too long ago. and my accessory installer mentioned that despite being empty, old iswara's door plate is thicker/heavier than most car makes today hence the sturdiness smile.gif

Rear door is always had a solid feel as it not as often being used as the front door. Unlike those limo cab with more frequent rear door usage.
The main issue on local cars with good aftermarket soundproof installation is vibration and rattling issue here and there which is a rail pain to cure.
Padding does help but it not being able to hold for long time.
Good thing, sound proofing increased the comfort ride as better NVH mean less fatigue.

I think some worth it sound proof is the

fender area to reduce some tire noise
roof to reduce rain noise

the rest, hmmm not sure. maybe another door seal.

if wan total sound proof, sound proof your ears with ear plugs. more worth it. RM5 je, can get it from daiso. hahahha j/k.

the best way is to compare the same car's model/make which has been soundproofed. sit in it and compare it with ur car.

however, the thing about sound is ur memory of it highly depends on ur mood. ur mind can shut out sound when u're relaxed. so the accuracy of the sound u remembered during the time u spent in the soundproofed car and later in ur car might be different.

so my suggestion is to install a sound/noise checking app in ur phone. switch it on in ur car, then drive around a bit. most noise checking software will indicate the highest and lowest noise levels (in decibel) as well as the mean. then compare the numbers with the soundproofed one.

at least this way u can be absolutely certain, empirically, about the amount of sound reduction and compare it with the amount of money u're going to spend.

but this only applies wear and tear, i replaced all my worn and torn parts, door/chassis rubber lining/seals even entire door panels due to accident/rust and corrosion.

consider it new, except it is stock.
the same goes to the front doors, except they are way more solid with thick sound proofing materials underneath them

i sound proof my BLM doors...did not notice much difference...passing motorbike sound maybe reduced 5%

the noisiest part is still from the firewall and tires...

basic car is basic car...upgrade till max, u still cant make the car feel premium...with all the money spent on upgrading, better get a better car from the beginning
