Thanks for the tips ill look into bedok, i did the math i think taking abit more time to get to the city is better then paying an extra 200-300 dollars in rent,  my main few factors are that i want to be able to cook and not have the owner there dictate what i should or should not do.

Looking around the sites i can only find mostly Condo's that have that kind of flexibility which is paramount to how i want to live. But the come at a steep cost, i guess it boils down to savings vs freedom, i have to spend more time looking for the right place or couple or right places then  make time to view them.

I hate that listings have very little or no info as well as terrible pictures.

Anyone else come across problems like this?

Can I apply for a bank account with IPA? If my company is to issue me a letter I don't need to place deposit right? Just need to remain SGD 500 every month to make sure I don't get charged only?

If you want "freedom", you either buy your own unit or rent an entire unit.

Once you "share" or "live with landlord"... there will be a compromise. The landlord or main tenant will always have a "my roof, my rules" attitude.

My take for freshies... spend a bit more and get a master bedroom with attached toilet. Then work hard, work smart... get promotions as quick as possible and invest to kick off the passive income stream... to move on to bigger and better things in 3-5 years time and so on. If you plan for your entire stay in SG to be renting room (kowtow to landlord/main tenant), running after buses and trains, eat economy rice,... because your salary stays more or less where it is now - then it's like the life of a foreign labourer. What's the point of living?

Of course POSB has more, just that my company currently does not have a POSB account, therefore they're saying that its a bit more complicated & difficult to open an acc there?

- M1 has plans for Iphone and BlackBerry only.
- Singtel has quite a few phones but not BTC Butterfly.
- Starhub do have the HTC Butterfly but it's not under SmartSurf plan.

Room is available now till August - already obtain owner's consent to rent out for short period.

i'm not so sure...i was thinking that i'll go to work..get as much knowledge and info as i can.. then open my own personal company that function same as well...kind of a wild thought.. or i'll just aim for high position high pay?

there is no need to give all kind of excuse to make ur irrelevant stand of u being a foreigner (a malaysian) and the conversion rate having anything to do with it
so the PRC should be paid half, 1k instead since the exchange rate for RMB to SGD is 5:1 instead of 2.5:1 for RM:SGD

u understand that there is a pay grade scale...so if you are offered an entry level pay...that means the position you are applying is an entry level job and they do not think you are capable enough to be paid for a more senior role. do you even understand such logic?

I need some recommendation for my friend, who get a job offer somewhere in June ~ August (unconfirmed yet). However she's now in SG and got another job offer which definitely with lower pay and not-that-bright-future job.

So my question is, is that advisable to apply for the lower pay job while waiting for the unconfirmed job offer? Will there be any difficulty to apply for pass when switch to the unconfirmed job? Btw, she just finished a contract basis job a month ago.

I think the unconfirmed job is 100%, just that the date is unconfirmed (So the latest could have to wait till August). So the only concern is the work permits. Would she be blacklisted if she change jobs too frequent?
