FSM Recommended Portfolios have switched out from OSK-UOB EM Bond and RHB Asian Total Return in favour of Hwang Select Income...interesting hmm.gif

Hwang SIF is really a great evergreen fund for all seasons, it gave me annualised returns in excess of 10% for the past few years. What I find interesting is that FSM included it as part of the fixed income portion of their Recommended Portfolios.
*
could it be bcos of the 70% bond and 30% eq? not actually balanced but heavy on bond?
or bcos FSM just added this fund for sale?

HwangIM managed this fund to behave quite close to that of a bond fund. If u compare its performance to Hwang Select Bond, I believe that it offers better risk-reward. icon_rolleyes.gif

talking abt bond, comparing the performance, risk ratings, RHB bond is better than Ambond, y FSM recommend ambond but not RHB bond? rclxub.gif
could it be the inside??? type of bond grade it holds? where to see more instead of just outside?

guess i found the reason rclxm9.gif ..but it is a bit late..i went into it alredy cry.gif

taken from FSM 7 Jan 2013 writing
"As for RHB Bond Fund, the manager engages in active trading to generate returns for investors, as evident from the frequent changes in the fund’s top holdings. For example, its largest allocation was in Tanjung Bin Energy Issuer Berhad at 18.20% of the fund’s net asset value (NAV) in end-Jun 2012 before being replaced by Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd (14.15% of NAV) in end-Sep 2012, and subsequently Weststar Capital Sdn Bhd (18.68% of NAV) in end-Nov 2012. As a result, its portfolio turnover ratio rose to 2.31X as per its annual report dated 30-September 2012.

Despite the fund’s recent strong performance, we are rather concerned on the fund’s concentrated exposure to the downgraded Ample Zone paper valued at RM5 million, or 11.9% of the fund NAV (as at 30 November 2012). The bonds are classified as a receivable in its book currently and thus we advice investors to exercise caution."

*
hmm.gif hope that those that handle my portfolio are not from this group of uncles....else my portfolio would have too much into bond/money market.....
why 2017 or 2018 and not other dates? i think it is better to pay more attention to our M'sia dept vs GDP ratio....for if it over 60% of GDP....m'sia bond would be down graded,...then a very bad spiral of effects...

Yea...I dont think Europe will be on track so fast, US market quite rely on data as well, Emerging Market...Inflation heating, slow GDP growth. Asia too hot now, keep on up, up, up...Japan, playing fire. Only left China are in the process of slowly transforming and silently getting stronger. Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine and Thailand..What if US stop QE 3 ?? Kapom Kapom....so better keep cash.
*
rclxms.gif yes, what if US stop the EQ3?......that would not be in 2017/18 i think....
those big foreign investment institution would have the data/tips to see this....
pay attention to the trading volume, who bought/sell them....and use some of the analyis tool

as quoted by kimyee on page 100; dated May 15 2013, 04:16 PM

"There are a number of ways to get the signal(s), some complex and some simple. I'm not going to mention the complex way as I'm not interested in them. I'm a trend follower, so I just look at price action. A simple one is using monthly moving average (MMA) of the US stock market. I like to use SPY ETF as I trade this regularly. SPY is the ETF for SPDR S&P 500 index. If the 10MMA cross below 20MMA, the market is in trouble. Looking at 2008, it cross in June 2008. There are other indicators to confirm this or even provide early warning such as MACD and Slow Stochastic (SS). SS even provide early warning as early as Jan 08."

eventhough i dun really understand much of the above, but i think that is a more scienctific method.

i believe that if one is always stayed in a locked home because one is always afraid of getting robbed in the streets.....he/she would have missed the world.
never be too safe,...just take some calculated risk.....have some back up plan.
even the best fund managers are never 90% right all the time....where 70% is considered good

Sifu, I am having 25% of total investment in Hwang Select Income. OSK Kidsave have about 5% only. Today swift all from RHB bond into Hwang select income as well...yea..need to have bullet nvm top up cash management fund long time ago already.
*
rclxms.gif wow, you shifted out of RHB bond....good move....me still hv to wait for ROI to +1%+2%....hope fully can achieve that by Oct....
because the problem bond asked for 3 yrs deferment till feb 2015.....i think by 2014 they would know if the bond can default or not.

2.43%....in 6 mths i think.......you will hv to pay 1% exit fees if you hold less than 1 yr...than another 2% if you buy into HSI.?

Read abt IRR from this threads, i googled IRR....

this site
http://hadm.sph.sc.edu/courses/econ/invest/invest.html
says:
"It is often assumed that higher is better for both of the net present value and the internal rate of return. In particular, it is usually stated that investments with higher internal rates of return are more profitable than investments with lower internal rates of return.

However, this is not necessarily so. In some situations, an investment with a lower internal rate of return may be better, even judged on narrow financial grounds, than an investment with a higher internal rate of return. "

??? what does it mean?? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Guys, expecting a profit margin of 10% per annum is realistic for UT investments? What have been you average per annum margins since you started investing in UT?
*
hmm.gif wondering why 10% pa? what is your risk level? can you afford to not touch the $$ in the fund for about 3 years while waiting for it to recover in the event of market crash?
suggest you read FSM guide
http://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/schoo...g.svdo?PageID=3

maybe it helps....especially the conclusion part
