normal win xp is not the same as win xp mce. you need to have windows xp media center edition 2005 (win xp mce). so if you only running normal win xp in your pc then you only can use the media connect with your 360. you need to install win xp mce2005 as your operating system before you can use media center in the 360.

I missed this one earlier.

Transcode 360 Beta 4.1 Released

This new release of Transcode 360 features a user interface for managing your settings as well as a number of substantial improvements:
User Interface - Settings

There is a new 'Automatic' installation option that will run T360 in the task notification area (system tray); this makes configuration super-easy and mitigates the network permissions issues some users encountered.

Both 2 and 6 channel (5.1) AC3 is supported and the AV sync issue affecting NTSC content has been fixed. Note that due to reliability issues Forward/Backward Skip are disabled while streaming AC3 soundtracks.

In addition to regular playback of XviD and DivX, Transcode 360 supports DVD ISO and VIDEO_TS folder streaming with subtitles; determining the best combination of soundtrack/subtitles appropriate to you based on your locale.

Sounds interesting. No longer had to encode to WMV already, and this comes with subtitles too! Try this later tonight! drool.gif

All i need to do now is to rip the ISOs off the DVDs and use this to stream it to the 360, compared to ripping the ISO, encoding to AVI, encapsulate into AVI container, rip the Ac3 into 6 channel WAVs, demuxing, and then re-encode into WMV with 5.1 format. Makes my life easier!

Im fairly sure the video would be no problem, how about the audio? If its streaming stereo only, im sticking with my longwinded method.

EDIT: Disregard that last paragraph. Supports 6 discrete channels!!! But FWD and RWD features are disabled when listening to AC3 soundtracks. sad.gif

OK, I've got my own MCE system setup already. Was actually setting it up to be a home server which shares the printer and other resources but I thought might as well install MCE on it so I can use the 360 to show off the gigs of photos that I've shot through out the years, not to mention that gives great WAF points so all is good.

Say hello to my little friend...
Attached Image

yes, it doesn't have a real keyboard or display cause I will hardly be using it directly it's main job is to act as a server.

Maybe I'll try out the video transcoding programs later.. maybe not.. still have my trusty XBMC for that!
