The Romans had a phrase for it already. However, humanity never really "learns" and always repeats the same sh**. However, it takes time for individuals to realize that in every generation. At least uncle already saw the light for half of his life. tongue.gif

Perhaps it can't be said for a lot of other people.

And the word here is "upgrade" and consumers will be a sucker for it . Guess it's human nature , when ip5 came out , everyone was complaining . Yet today , ip5 has the top sales compared to others in the market in Q4 . And for those who r complaining here about the design and how u bad u guys felt about it , dont go buying a S4 when it comes out . It will contradict to your own words .

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Mar 15 2013, 12:29 PM)
S4 offers a lot of new stuff that I can see.  IR Blaster, Smart Pause, built-in pedometer, etc.  It will be a worthy upgrade to the dual-core phone owners of two generations ago (and maybe new smartphone / iOS owners), maybe not so much for current S4 owners.
There's also the other side of the coin - herd mentality.  During your 'study', does the average Joe demonstrate a strong sense of independent decision-making (I will not buy S4), or does he go with the flow (I bought S3 becos everybody had one)?

I suspect a lot of people had individual opinions in the beginning but eventually succumbs to perceived societal and peer pressure in order to blend in.  Public acceptance is so important these days, especially to the younger crowd (Gen Y and younger).
Ah Latin.  The only Latin I know is 'carpe diem et memento mori'.  Luckily there's Google tongue.gif

That's true, but the fear of rejection by peers make some people accept whatever others are preaching.  Is there Latin phrase for that?  hmm.gif
*

So would the hive mind be a good thing considering the phenomenon of herd mentality? We still need to judge for ourselves. Nice discussion.

I'm seeing a lot of misunderstanding here. My firm belief is that it is in large part caused by a poor grasp of the language (English) and our dear leaders are saying that our education system will take 5 years to even get to a stage of preparedness to allow 17yr olds to pass with basic proficiency. In the meantime, 17yr olds who fail (our already dismal level of) English are allowed to continue on and graduate. Then collectively we complain about high unemployment.

I had hoped that writing in a forum will have an impact on the level of proficiency but it seems many are stuck in the trenches of the several varieties of Mangled English.

There's the Chinese, Malay and Indian variety. We should all rise to the International standard variety, be it BrE or AmE.

My 2 sen/cents/pence.

I would also like to add that I'm seeing several proficient writers engaging in eloquent debates but seems a little tangential to the thread but a very entertaining read nonetheless smile.gif

i'm only a newbie and just asking based on my own limited understanding...

what i understand by "high resolution" is that it has got "high count of pixels".

i had read a bit from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution

anyway, but i do agree that sometimes high MP camera (like 13MP) may not really yield good results as compared to 8MP. i guess lots of other factors... however, i'd think Samsung would not wanna screw up and give us something inferior.
*
I'm a newbie as well, but what I've read are that sensor size, lens quality and image processing algorithms affect the final output. And there's some kind of relationship between DPI, PPI and MP that I only understand a little. These matter very much if you have to produce prints. Otherwise it's not so important if you're posting on FB or sending over Whatsapp.

Wait for the full teardown from iFixit or other teardown sites.

That said, I'm interested purely from a technology perspective. I'm not getting the S4 tongue.gif but the Note 3.

Nice one.

I'd say slap on a Seidio OBEX to the S3/S4 and you have immediate IP57 or IP67 rating !!!!!

Then XZ loses its edge.... I'm fine with a thick bulky casing smile.gif

Yes , can see that in Nexus 4 and Xperia Z threads. I think I am only one of the few talking negative stuffs about these phones and what I said is true based on my experience using them
I am no fanboy of any brand though I used many Samsung phones and seriously I have no major complains except for only Galaxy S which I openly said is the worst Android phone in my list
*
But I suppose both of those phones (Nexus 4, XZ) have one thing in common - that "design" is one of the key selling points of the device. It seems once the word "premium design" or "sexy design" is part of the marketing, you probably start having irrational fanboyism. I recall LG liked to market the heck out of every teensy weensy insignificant feature about 5+ years ago ... pink phone for ladies with all the floral stuff, the twistable camera so you can take shots of yourself and they used a pair of tango dancers for that ad....

Samsung has never been much about design but functionality.

I am not defending Samsung but saying that some here value functionality over aesthetics, while others are the opposite. I am also offering my 2 cents about why some threads attract more fanboyism than others. I may be wrong and welcome correction.

It is a chicken and egg situation
With greater sales and profits , only the company can spend more money on marketing efforts
Until and unless HTC gets some form of additional financial support to have a greater marketing budget, their sales will be hard to match Samsung. This is what was reported in BusinessInsider:
In September, Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales and marketing at HTC, told us the reason Samsung was kicking his butt was the size of his budget. He told Business Insider's Jay Yarow: "Samsung spent four to six times more in advertising than us." This rings true. You remember all Samsung's ads making fun of iPhone users waiting in line. Anyway, HTC's slogan is "quietly brilliant." Clearly, it shouldn't be so quiet about it.

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-biggest...1#ixzz2Nc5yaH8i

Most consumers buying decision ( unlike us folks here or in other phone forums in the world  ) are more easily influenced by advertising

Exactly lo...

I even never feel any special of iPhone as I own 1st iPod touch, iPhone just add-on call functionality on it, until dated iPhone5 was same, nothing much impress.

Smoothness - also 100% agree, iOS no widget, no real background running, off course it will be much much smoother than Android.

I felt nauseated at the control freakery of Apple after some reading shortly after ipr0n launched and never ever want one (unless they change their philosophy)

if its rightly priced, then it'd attract more potential buyers for sure. I really hope that they change their standard pricing with the S4. Interested to get the 32GB one, but if only the price is right as in <RM2200 for a 32GB model.

design-wise, it is disappointed, especially to S3 users whose habit is upgrading phone every year.  tongue.gif but even its made from poly-carbonate materials, the finishing of it is nice imo. HTC One is nice too, but 4.7" for me is a lil bit small nowadays since I spent a lot of time on my phone rather than the desktop nowadays. How i wish Note 3 is just around the corner as well.
