Premium Polycarbonate woh Still cheaper and easier to manufacture than aluminium, and seems that Samsung is passing that on to consumers.

QUOTE(LordDenning @ Mar 17 2013, 09:33 PM) Hmm, i dont quite get you. Are you saying it's high priced for a plastic phone? Considering some posts about how others can achieve a "premium" feel using costlier materials at the same price point, I'm somewhat swayed by that argument, and believe Samsung should now have benefited from massive economies of scale for the shell, PCB and related assemblies. The only costly new components are the screen and the camera unit.but then again, you're getting a bigger screen on it and Corning GG 3, etc etc. So I guess the pricing is fine Unlike Apple. lol. Seeing the teardown yesterday, the PCB design seems to have followed the improvements in the Note2, with more discrete sections that are easily replaceable. So I do feel that Samsung should pass this on to consumers to alleviate the bitc*ing about its design. |

I think the problem is the kernel. It contains the low level drivers to handle cpu management. If Samsung doesn't provide the sources it is highly likely that all custom roms will have sh*t performance and there will also be no custom kernels available. The devs are revolting against this because they are unable to manipulate anything related to performance.
This is antithetical to open source. |

QUOTE(sebastianX11 @ Mar 18 2013, 10:11 PM) I really hope that Sammy release the code for exynos Nexus device also lacks microSD expansion and does not have a removable battery. Very major negatives in my book. So you didn't get an Xperia Z in the end ? Having said that, tw launcher is no longer a minus point as hardware ady compensated the tw launcher short coming I'm always having trouble to decide keeping nexus device or Sammy device... Sigh Nexus fluid and update but lacks the hardware dept... ie Camera and speaker Sammy lack the fluidity and update but other gooding like camera, and software like smart stay and the new s everything.... |

QUOTE(Hico @ Mar 20 2013, 06:36 PM) No, I'm reading coz I'm a tech freak I'm getting the Note 3. After having used a Note1, then Note2, like what you and probably many others have experienced, I cannot go back to a smaller screen device. Pocketing it is not a problem, and I keep mine in a belt pouch, and it's also using an Otterbox Defender. |

QUOTE(ken2291 @ Mar 21 2013, 10:45 AM) Need to consider the audio chips in the different versions as well. You could be v2 TS Qualcomm S600 - native built-in audio DAC in Krait https://twitter.com/supercurio/status/312378336972242944 Exynos 5 Octa - maybe Wolfson audio DAC (not sure, but possible) Also, this phone records 1080p@60fps right? Wonder what filesystem it uses.. Maybe TS can include a specs list in the first post. Something like this: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Your topic is very well laid out. |
