UBI should be unconditional cash payment to everyone regardless of their earnings/employment/race etc... Would people be motivated to work for their passion or for extra income?

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Mar 15 2023, 11:41 AM) Why dipping into your epf is more harmful than you think This is very basic. My son work part time 2.5 days a week also get 1k+ salary. if full time can get 2k salary. EPF is 460 monthly right? so if he not study and not improve, EPF will be MYR 491,269.06 in 35 years @5.5% interest according to ChatGPT. How to not to reach 240k basic retirement amount? Should be asking the effects on inflation on its future value right?https://mysinchew.sinchew.com.my/20230314/w...than-you-think/ Good reading & valid point stated 👍 |

My point is getting 2k today just needs a part time job. 7 years ago my plant operators gets RM3.5+ with overtime . nowadays should be more. I don't understand how come EPF savings is an issue. Cannot be sitting down doing nothing... This post has been edited by batman1172: Mar 15 2023, 01:42 PM CommodoreAmiga liked this post

QUOTE(Wolves @ Mar 15 2023, 02:29 PM) First of all, as you mention, that figure is 2018. That time inflation is around 3% plus minus only. So 240k at that point of time is very reasonable. Second of all, it's basic living. Not lavishly rich. At 2018, having 1k per month is livable. Kwsp only targets livable condition. Not rich ppl lifestyle Simple living I average 1.4-1.5k monthly also. Only that my car is company paid so I dunno how much it cost. maybe retire that time will buy second hand car assuming still healthy enough to drive On a second note, is kwsp dividend is equal or higher than inflation, it just means 240k/15 per year = 16k per year (1,333) per month at current economy. If you ask me, i can live with that. I actually spend less than 1.2k a month currently. If i don't have any big purchases la. If normal living that is acceptable. So i think for it's reason and purposes, it is ok. Let's say food rm10 each, 3 times a day is 900 a month. Electricity and water should cost 100 per month (moderately used) and unifi 94.50 a month (cheapest) and prepaid rm30 (actually coastal rm20 but let's just put 30) per month. Petrol would be minimum coz you retired and not need to travel to work daily. That will be around 100 per month? Just a rough calculation. 1,125.50 a month so far. So, 240k now (today) and if dividend rate equal or higher then inflation, retiree can live 15 years. So i will not say it's very far off yet. |

I'd say buy medical insurance but don't over buy cause you can get treatment in gomen / semi gomen hospital. Reason is emergency and panic then somebody send you to private or like my in law gomen hospital said stroke can't save then we transfer her to private hosipital and her life was saved - ya cost RM200k but insurance only pay 180k cause that's her max limit.

Things might not be better in the foreseeable future with a loan if already in financial trouble. Have to evaluate the compounded effect. But if this is cheap money and able to get higher rate somewhere issue is risk/return which is less a problem as I see. I might wait for cheap money and buy AT1 bonds

Read their annual report. you will see who are the substantial shareholders. lots of good dividend paying stocks are held by epf or pbn or kwap. they already do analysis so less worry. Financial and REITS are 2 sectors that epf buys then keep to pay us dividends. Just buy on good value, earnings and dividend track record then keep 12 years after that free dividend. it's very boring. CommodoreAmiga and nexona88 liked this post

Suddenly got new HRV from EPF money. before that pinjam money from me repair her myvi because cannot afford son's medication. |

Yes many people are in debt even before retirement. No me lar. I'm old school who believe holidays should be paid with passive income otherwise, you can't afford it.

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Apr 10 2023, 02:46 PM) EPF approves 299 funds for its member investment scheme Not a good idea. Pay sales charge, pay management fee, pay custodian fee etc... I think EPF money should keep in EPF. if want to invest, use own money and make sure select something can give annualized return >10%184 of those funds are ready to be offered for the 2023/2024 period. Of these qualified funds, 81% or 149 are local funds with 70% or 104 being equity funds. For the first time this year, EPF has included a sustainable responsible investment (SRI)-based unit trust fund in the list as part of its commitment to embrace sustainable investing and the mainstream sustainability agenda. “As an incentive to encourage members’ investment into an SRI-based fund, the sales charge is reduced for transactions made through EPF’s i-Invest online platform from 0.5% to 0% – or not more than 1.5% for transactions via agents,”. https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...estment-scheme/ https://www.kwsp.gov.my/member/investment |

QUOTE(xander2k8 @ Apr 10 2023, 04:58 PM) oh thx. didn't know that. never touched epf. lol...like someone said above i, better invest UT with spare money. but I still don't like UT. all the SC and fees not for me. prefer diverse asset class Real Estate as in landed properties, Shares, Bonds and a small percentage in money game and crypto. |

QUOTE(ronnie @ Apr 10 2023, 05:42 PM) UT was my first foray in investment after started working.. did DCA (form of forced savings) for 2+ years and now stop invresting in UT not sure how to calculate returnWent into dividend stocks for better returns. Now after 20 years my UT investment is worth >250% .... so little only hahahaha bought my investment apartment 21 years ago. rm150k. down-payment 30k. now worth 350k. so make about 200k in 21 years. 200/150/21=6.3% per year only slightly better than EFP if less small repairs every 7 to 8 years might be lesser return |
