Interesting, what was the rationale? USD/MYR remains 3.5-3.8 in my head so I can't bare to convert at these rates 😅
*
gonna hit 4.26 next week... then 4.29... then 4.8... soon can never convert liao... hahaha...

us likes to keep printing $$$ to support its economy and pump stock market... also to bail out wall street... so invest in the us market is quite a safe bet...

If 40 billion is the amount to be withdrawn for this pengeluaran khas, wonder how would this affected the dividend next year? Those making withdrawal should be given lower dividend compared to others who don't.
*
just make the withdrawal as taxable income...

so now the proposal is any withdrawal from EPF is taxable as if it is income?
KWAP and TH and ASN should be included as well?
*
just saying... your's n company's deductions are before tax... so if take out early before retirement... you pay income tax as if no epf... of course this excl self contributions since you already paid tax for it...

Taxed EPF at contribution is only up to 4k in the form of tax relief. Anything more than 4 k is post tax.

Would be a damn big headache to setup proper tax laws and mechanism to track what should be taxed or not taxed. (not true also that all my deductions are before tax)
Need to be similar to US's 401K vs IRA (and all their permutations)....

Don't know about you, but I definitely do not trust our Malaysia government to get it right.
*
401k early withdrawal 10% penalty on top of paying tax...

copy pasta from 401k with minor mods... done... no headache lah... no need to dramatize it... biggrin.gif

epf can do it... very simple imho...

anyways...

It is seriously not as simple as that, if government is to ensure fairness to those who contributed into EPF all this while, vs moving forward. (just extending retirement age, we are lucky to have EPF thought it trough and created the 3rd account of Account Emas, and this is a very simple employment change in grand scheme of things).

Take a simple example. 401K is voluntary, and no one forces the employee nor employers.
EPF is forced upon most employees and employers, and is on all income and most benefits the employee receive.
Would gov be so kind to change this part of the rule, and I am sure half the employers will stop contributing.

If EPF is to follow 401K method, then should it not be voluntary? The poor surely will not bother to contribute.
else, make all EPF contribution be tax-free and then tax later with penalty (but think about this first and see who will benefits more).
and there are plenty of other issues but really no point enumerating as we are just discussing for fun.
*
obviously a total revamp of the system is impractical... but to adopt some of the ideas and concepts should be doable

but really the current shitty situation is gov shedding it's responsibility...

Withdraw EPF for good reason. I agree..

But u guys go spend on buying electronic stuff like iphone or jewelry.... Or even foreign holidays...... That's really bad move...

At least spend on household expenses or pay off debts.. should be priority 👍

Shouldn't be..USD has been going up n up vs many currencies. JPY is the worst.

Btw EPF dumping foreign assets is good for MYR in the immediate term, everything being equal. Sell USD assets, buy MYR.
*
last 2 days usd (dxy) didnt move much, but myrusd up a lot... conspiracy theorist in me thinking maybe bnm extra weaken myr for the epf repatriation... biggrin.gif

anyways i pissed off as this 7am i made a big usd to myr transfer... if wait 2 hrs could have gotten 0.7% more today... oh well... lol...

10k is RELATED to EPF. there is no such thing that only specific topics within EPF that is allowed. if it's applicable to u, cheers. if not, then can ignore. if not satisfied, can report to mod.
*
QUOTE(kevyeoh @ Apr 22 2022, 01:46 PM)
yeah, the 10k withdrawal is indeed related to EPF...not like the withdrawal is from own FD from bank...so i also cannot understand why the 10k withdrawal cannot be classified as EPF related...
*
yeah... some minor cross talk should be OK lah... if blindly follow ts post in 2013 and title... how much can we bitch and moan about 6.1%... lol

technically speaking... 10k is not even dividend related... how many tered we need to open... lol

With FD gaining traction, not many will buy into this 100k self contribution.

why?

epf has lots of fixed income too...

Say EPF dividend is less than 6% and I am quite optimistic that FD can reach 4.5, maybe more. One may be willing to forgo the <1.5% difference.
*
say I give you 100k...but cannot withdraw for 30 yrs... what will you choose... epf or fd?... wink.gif

Not many 25 year old in Malaysia have 100k as yearly deposit savings. I think this is more interesting for 35-55 yr old that likely are close to the withdrawal threshold already.
*
you are logically correct... but this is a decision analysis exercise... des why I said I give you 100k... you just have to pick a or b... wink.gif

In that case I would chose epf only because I like to save long term and it is easier to place it there than hunt rates which I need to do now 😅 Caveat is that I don't need the funds ie this is just to balance the risk within my portfolio.
*
you can still pick fd... still save long term... don't hunt around... wink.gif

you just lose out on $$$...

laugh.gif ... go check epf div vs fd for last 20 yrs lor... then make informed decisions... you had plenty of time to answer... wink.gif
