In and out,... I have a lot of my funds and assets outside anyway,... Malaysia becomes my diversifier now, instead of outside,...

I'm glad I made the move to dispose a large proportion of my funds from the PNB late last year. If that catalyst of a possible conversion to VP Funds did not come, I would have just been contented and stayed inside PNB.

When that catalyst came, I made ALL the steps to strengthen my portfolio outside and transferred my funds out. I have an even stronger portfolio outside of the country now, earning foreign currencies. In the process of strengthening my portfolio, I was alerted by some quarters, my external investment bankers, to move my children out, to go to schools outside.

It is good for my foreign investments if we are residents in those countries.

So,..all in.. I am glad that catalyst came,.. and things turned out as such for me today.

I think you made the best move. I have been through that too.

Malaysia is bad, but not that bad lah. But for long term, it is better to diversify outside. No harm. If one day touch wood the ship really sink like unker said, at least got some thing to fall on to

But right now, the ship is still moving. So your strategy of keeping more outside and a portion inside is still the best and forward looking

The problem we have with this place is the trust that people have with the govt, and with letting the govt manage their money.

The environment is different in Sgp. The govt will take of its people.

This thing abt borrowing from foreign banks is that if the exchange rate goes against us, we will have to service a higher interest expense, especially if the US starts to raise interest rate.

Dishing out a higher interest expense will reduce the distributable income for contributors.

Based on the chart supplied by Plumberly,

the chart shows the revenue in 2016 has dropped to the level similar to 2012. If we look back at 2013 dividend rate, which is 6.35% and factoring an early election, the KWSP dividend rate for 2016 should be between 6.00 to 6.50%.

My guess is as such.

I supposed if there is no effect towards what we currently have in Accts 1 and 2, no one would mind. What people would mind would be if they've decided to withdraw their funds from any acct. comes a certain time, and EPF suddenly changed the rules and prevented the withdrawal,... This is what makes people mad, because this disrupts their plans,...

With the MYR shrinking, is it still good idea to keep so much of your retiremnet funds in MYR assets?
*
QUOTE(kpfun @ Nov 22 2016, 10:14 AM)
For cash rich retirees, of cause, keeping a portion at oversea, or buying non RM assets, are always options.

For average retirees, the flexibility is limited.

I started moving money to oversea at the rate of SGD1.96 and USD2.6. But, I stopped, at last transaction, around USD3.1, 2+ years ago.

I'm not sure, at USD4.4, is a right time to move or not. I'm not good in forex.
*
I think for EPF, we have no choice, must contribute and are not allowed to take out,...

Wow, SGD 1.96 and USD 2.60 - that's like,... wow,... a very long time ago,...if you have been investing those funds outside, actually,... you don't need to move any out anymore into those denominations. Like for myself,... actually,... I have enough to invest from the dividends and the coupons that I earn from my SGD and USD investments. So,... no need to convert into those denoms,... the money made can be plowed in to make more money.

...if you plan to diversify, go INTO ANOTHER currency, another country. That's my thinking,....

Shortterm outlook is 4.5, more major banks agree on this.

SOme more bearish ones are putting a cap at 4.8.

This means the short/medium term outlook in the worst case scenario would be an additional 10% drop in our currency against the greenback.

Ofcourse if you want move your funds outside, dont choose USD, try something where Ringgit havent fallen so sharply against. Say the SGD, where RInggit in the last one month (where the fall against USD was sharpest) only fell about 3%.
*
Frankly, I noticed that the SGD is also at an all-time high now ! The RM has been defeated left, right and centre.

Yes, but in comparison to the USD, SGD didnt appreciate that much % wise in the last few weeks.
*
I have not checked, but yes, I would agree with you. Mathematically, all currencies weakened against the USD. The stringer ones weakened lesser, the weaker ones plunged. Hence, mathematically, RM wouldn't weaken so much against the SGD compared to against the USD. thumbsup.gif

Thanks.

[attachmentid=8108018]

Using the average +/- 1 standard deviation to give me a graphical view of the performance, Q3 and Q1+Q2+Q3 as shown above.

Like I said before, if it is above the red line, then good news, if between the red and green lines, OK news, if below the green line, bad news. Ha.

Q3 performance is good news.

Overall Q1-Q3 performance is OK news. But inching towards the good news as it is just below the red line.

Any one here knows how many RM billion is invested overseas (stock markets, shares etc)?

I want to get some estimate on the "false" gain due to the higher US-RM exchange rate.

Thanks.

EPF buys CIMB Bank’s stakes in real estate funds for RM123mil
http://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...s-for-rm123mil/

The fund invest in Australian commercial office assets blush.gif
*
If, in this case, the EPF HAS NOT been politically compelled to 'absorb' this disposal from the CIMB, and if the EPF made it own decisions to acquire this asset, then I'm quite sure the EPF would have done its due diligence before purchasing this asset. The EPF must be seeing good opportunities in the Aus commercial asset sector.

They must have a reason then for choosing Australian commercial assets.

Very easy for them to make money in Msia,... Really easy, bros,.... thumbup.gif Just one round like this, transfer of wealth from us to them already. And this is LEGAL some more....

Then for us, even if we are smart enough not to be fooled by them by investing into FGV, ultimately we are affected by our pension fund's involvement. So,... staying in Msia, there is NO WAY OUT ! Left or right,... they will 'makan' us also !

So,..
