On my part, I believed that we shld learn and know how to invest by ourselves. We shld not depend on the EPF, nor on anyone else.

We must contribute to the EPF, whether for ourselves or for our staff, as a means to follow a statutory act which is enacted by the Parliament of a country. Beyond that, we must learn to take care of our own finances.

Well looks like no one has got an answer for this. Only avenue left is from the horses mouth. I'll make an appointment with KWSP officer on this matter.

Last resort is FD and stretch it as long as possible! I believe FD interest will improve soon, especially since covid vaccine is on the table.

Maybe can consider some investment-grade bank bonds too,...

Secondly,... BNM may lower the OPR again in January,.. so, if you are aiming for bank FDs, perhaps can expedite your research and enter asap before the FD rates are lowered further.

Bros,... these reportings are 'test the water' actions,... if public feedback is not that bad, then high chance actions will be taken in line with these speculations.

Those who are not yet of retirement age can;t do anything except to invest into the local unit trusts.

Those who are of retirement age and can take out may not know how to invest safely out there. NObody can turn into an investor overnight.

EPF would be betting on the above events.

Since the EPF has some associations with the ASB, especially in terms of dividend payouts,... I would like to attach the below article that I caught today :-

https://www.utusan.com.my/berita/2020/12/pe...tm_source=dable

ASB subscribers with borrowed funds to invest,...

Just another extra option for your guys to consider,....

Hi bros and sis',.... I recalled reading somewhere among these threads that some investors here who are more risk-averse wanted 'safer' investments for their Singapore Dollar cash holdings. Following is a good option to consider.

The subscription amt is NOT 250k SGD minimum and you can invest on lower amts. These bonds will be listed on the exchange for easier buying and selling.

Guys,... I watch Bloomberg almost everyday, I saw one advert quite recently,...Serba Dinamik, giving big words abt themselves in their slot in Bloomberg. The CEO sat on on a nice chair and spoke so greatly abt the company,....

Today,... we can see it's a bunch of lies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So,... don't trust everything Bloomberg advertises. That advert was quire recent,... which means SB would be having probs already by then,...

care to explain what lies are they?

In short, he spoke abt their ESG plans, how they helped their people excelled and if I'm not mistaken,... their strategy for the environment, being in the O&G industry. After all spoken, they failed their audit tests,.... Audit tests encompass all the above,...

So ? What's declared to the public is not = what that's been audited. How do you term that ?

Dividend pay out is "Should be" from realised profits.. How much they want to realise is up to them..
Also, the case of TH,... Had been giving dividend out of the assets itself too.
The money for withdrawal schemes does not come from the realised profits....

*
That's right, bro,....

But gov't bailed hem out,... so, no issue for TH. That's the difference,....

” “It is very clear that there is an urgent need for far-reaching solutions covering an effective social safety net programmes, robust labour market policies, sustainable economic growth, reskilling and upskilling of the labour force, as well as policies to encourage automation and digitalisation to help increase productivity and make the economic cake bigger so that employees have better chance to earn more, thereby increasing their contributions to the EPF,” he added. — Bernama”

Finally someone that makes more sense than all this communistic tiered dividend talk.

Sorry bros,... above statements are all just wishful thinkings. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

All of you are smart investors. SGD will only go stronger against MYR I predict in future. Same for USD. But for my case USD keep getting weaker as in I get lesser SGD over the years and hence I park in RMB,CNH slowly. Diff country investors different strategies.
*
Yes bro,... diff countries, diff issues,... I hold quite a lot of foreign currencies, SGDs in particular,... but when the SGD strengthens, REIT divvy payouts will drop if rental is collected from ovreseas properties.

But good things abt holding SGDs no need to mention-lar,... biggrin.gif

Anyway,... I have an opinion here : I think starting from next year, people who are aged 55 and above will start to spend with their EPF first before they pullback their foreign currencies to use.

It's better to use a weakening currency which earns 5% or slightly more per year than to remit back foreign currencies and get taxed.

I suspect there will be more withdrawals come next year,....

I have many friends who preferred to buy Gold and other assets to hedge against the depreciating Ringgit instead of piling up into the EPF.

Don't know if strong USD is one of the reasons...

Bros,... that's why my friends bought too since gold price dropped. That's the time to buy. And yes to nexona's statement. There is some correlation here.

So if my statement is correct...
Gold price would drop even lower then???
Because USD getting stronger by the weeks 💪

In my opinion,... Gold price will start reversing up when the Consumer Sentiment Index starts to drop.

One advantage of our EPF is,... the moment they sell their overseas assets, they will : kite untung forex !

Heard this personally from their brass levels,.... so, no problem, MYR will always get to be more the moment they realize their overseas investemts.

I think can maintain the yield.

But not all investment is overseas...lots of the money still needs to support krony local companies. If I remember correctly, only aorund 35% to 40% is overseas investment. Pls correct me if I am wrong.
*
I think you are right, even if liquidating any among this 35% to 40% will still earn EPF currency appreciation today,...

Ahh,... yes, for this time round,... that's right. Previously, they divested their UK properties and had forex gains. But I'm not sure if they would divest any US or SG properties this time,... or even if they have any of such props in hand,...

If they don't and their local investments do not do well this year,.. the dividend to be given out next February will be affected.

Keep in mind it's not savings but I am using a strategy call dividend growth investing where you put money into few stocks and they automatically increase their dividends every year without fail.

You're not talking abt Options anymore. You were laughing at dividend-investing earlier,.... biggrin.gif

I still have 3 core dividend growth stocks for FIRE. Options is just to increase the speed to get there. Don't get me wrong. I will still do options even when FIRE but maybe lesser.

But EPF got the smoothing mechanism, right ?

During years where the investments returns is low, EPF can always use previous year profits to boost our dividend yield, right ?
