Personnel preference would go for cx5 instead of xv.
Outlook - cx5
Features - cx5 gadgets and bose sound system
Performance - cx5 skyactive engine win over the fuel consumption

This picture is the reason why these cars are popular at certain places
They aren't exactly off-road, but just very very poor road conditions.
driving a normal car would make you cry.

i see....again, pardon my ignorance, isn't cross-over built on a sedan chasis which mean low clearance, also are they using stiffer suspension like the one in a true SUV? how would the cross-over help in navigating pothole roads in the photo?

not ignorance la. Just you never driven in such conditions before.
2 most important thing about cross-overs VS normal sedan cars:

1. 4-wheel drive (and traction control) is very important.
If you drive in mud roads then you will know 2-wheel's disadvantage. I kena both front wheels stuck in mud last time when drive in kampung during rain. the 2 rear wheels just sit there staring at you and ask "apa lu mau?"

2. also another strong point of cross-over is the higher ground clearance than normal sedans.
so not easy to hit the undercarriage of car in potholes or poor roads.
not forgetting a higher profile allows driver to navigate and see better ahead on road conditions.

There is a huge market for cross-overs simply because true off-roaders usually lack the luxury and comfort, and true off-roaders are meant for...as the name implies, off-road (like jungle trekking, mount climb, etc) cross-overs are usually inexpensive in comparison and has the benefits of both worlds.

I think that is my "igorant" points. There are quite a few "soft-roader SUV" options available in the market. So, why not those soft-SUVs if that is the case. A cross-over does not have the best of both sedan/SUV but instead it has the reverse (half empty POV, lol).

There's a market for everyone.
I rather have more choices, than be limited.

this I agreed rclxms.gif

as i said in my first post, I am not meant to be a critic but rather want to find out what's "the" selling point of cross-over compare to SUV or sedan. Well, as you well said, there is market for everyone

Check out Ssangyong Aryton....it's a pretty impressive 2.0 Diesel SUV with AWD. And it only costs less than rm130k. Cheapest AWD SUV diesel.

The torque (360nm) is not a laughing matter and will put to shame those highway warriors. brows.gif

it is like mobile phones. it slowly becoming a cross-over between a phone and a computer now
to say it is bad, there are cons. but the pros far outweight the cons.

smart phone different story, no matter what innovative features they can pack it in, they are always handicapped by the battery technology, which the last commercially-viable breakthrough was Lithion and that was like donkey years ago. Until the day they can pack nuclear to power all electronic device, we can then have a glowing phone tongue.gif tongue.gif

Just test drove both xv and cx 5 over the weekend and am seriously considering buying the xv. Cx5 handling and engine was surprisingly bad... I really wanted the cx 5 before the test drive but not anymore...

However, I've still got one last issue with it. Is subaru's general maintenance and service more expensive than say, the crv, cx5 and also the asx? Do I have to wait very long for parts if I ever had to change the side mirrors or the bumper if I had an accident with the car?

Thanks guys!

hmm... im interested to know about the fuel consumption comparison between cx5 and xv. as i wasnt able to test it during the short test drive... Any thoughts from any one?!!

im still quite undecided!!

i use to love the cx5 and watch in amazement whenever i see it on the road. it is such a handsome looking car.

However.. all of that went to dust after i test drove the cx5.. xv felt so much planted on the ground and especially at high speed, it is super stead... engine and gear change felt a lot more smooth when i step on the accelerator as compared to the cx5 who just ROAARRR whenever you need to pick up speed.

so now my dilemma is whether to sacrifice slightly on the handling and engine and gear responsiveness and get a more popular brand of cx5.. or go for the great handling of subaru and sacrifice on the second hand value and less popular brand..

I guess at the end of the day it depends on how you use your car and how you like to drive.

I would say CX-5 is actually more comfortable, whereas the XV gives you a better drive. If you spend more time in slow moving traffic, I would say CX-5 sounds better and have a good probability of maintaining resale value compared to XV.

But if you like driving around and usually drive in a spirited manner, XV is quite good provided you are willing to sacrifice on resale value, some boot space and CVT noise.

For FC u can refer to the Asia auto fuel efficiency awards 2012 and 2013 under compact SUV ~ XV is perform 7L/100km get 2nd place is same with land rover freelander 2.2diesel ~
If taken cx5 to compare, dun forget to compare the AWD system with 2WD that selling almost same price ~ ans also the rear suspension that cX 5 is using multi link and XV is using double wish bone ~ do some compare on that

which is more powerful? My parents plan to buy a "big" yet stylish SUV. They care about how powerful are they in real life because this car will be using in my hometown Sabah. Where road doesn't like KL, they have big holes and cracking road. Really awful  shakehead.gif

Budget around 150k. Owners of one of the car comment will be much appreciated  biggrin.gif

If you're looking for a big and stylish SUV, the Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 comes to mind.

it definitely looks stylish! Has anyone test drove it already?

But to be frank.. both sportage and santa fe are not on my list of consideration at all.. Its still between cx5 or xv!!
