The signing of Julio Cesar from Inter was a major coup in my books. He has bags of experience at international and club level. It is akin to the time Fulham signed Van Der Sar. Having said that Cesar wouldn't be my first choice. He's got good reflexes but I'm not convinced he commands his box well and can deal with crosses. Heck, maybe I've just got something against Brazilian keepers in general. Not since Taffarel have Brazil had a consistent goalkeeper. Dida was supposed to be the answer but his sudden loss of form remains a mystery. Maybe losing to us in Istanbul was too much for him to take Based on current form, I'd say Begovic is a better bet. He's worked hard to displace Sorensen and with Butland having signed, Stoke could cash in on him especially since they have both Sorensen and Carlo Nash as backups.

I feel sad for Pepe. He was just coming into a bit of form before this calamatous error. Having said that it isn't the first time Pepe has been caught in no man's land. Unlike in previous instances where he's successfully managed to close the angle down, sheparding the opposing forward wide of goal, Sergio Aguero managed to slot it in from a very acute angle. That's Pepe though. Some say he invented the term sweeper-keeper and we shouldn't let one error erase from memory the times he's come off his line and got to the ball first either with his feet or head. He isn't having the best of seasons but he's given years of tremendous service to the club. He's already receiving a lot of flak so let us not let him walk alone eh?
