I think you DIY your own packages cheaper....

I recently booked flights for entire family.. 4pax air tickets to and back 322.40.. plus insurane 60... and I am planning for my hotel stay....

which is better?

1. Bayview
2. Awana Porto Malai
3. Holiday Villa

Well... I would dearly love Burau Bay or Sheraton.. but its beyond my budget.. sad.gif.
*
1)Bayview...Centre of Kuah town..no beach...suitable for shopping trip only.
2)Awana - No beach but there is a yatch lagoon and probably free/discounted trip to Pulau Singa (Crstal clear water)
3) Holiday Villa....Yes lovely beach (Pantai Tengah)....clear water & certain time can catch lotsa star fishes....not so far from Langkawi happening beach i.e Pantai Cenang....

3days & 2nites should not be a problem..Custom will check the date only let say u come in 1/3 & out by 3/3 - they treat this as 72hrs....Most of my trips to Loangkawi were 3D2N trips... and hv no problem bringing in liquor but normally I only bought beers & wine...cheap cheap one... biggrin.gif

Be caution...It is OK to buy liquor, cigarette, hi-end cookwares & chocolate bcos its definetly cheaper than mainland by ~200% (liqour & cigars) & about 30% on (chocolates & cookwares) but not Perfume! I bot CK one perfume when I came bck I realised that the price is similar to KL!! vmad.gif

Stimix.. thanks for the info.... Its been a long time since I have been to Langkawi... last stayed at City Bayview..so this time I thought it would be great to go to a beach resort..

Besides Holiday Villa, which hotels are in the 250-300 per night bracket? most of it is like 500++.... If I were to stay there I fear my family got to eat maggi mee for all the 3 meals there.. kekekeke...

Probably u can try the hotel booking here.....at that price range, preferably u can consider:

1) Tanjung santuary really deep inside virgin jungle and natural setting (something like the Andaman/Datai)
2) Berjaya Langkawi
3) Mutiara Beach
4) Langkawi lagoon (very picturic scenery wth the stilt bungalow)

The website is HERE

Almost similar & depending on how u bargain. Cheaper car will be kancil/Wira which is about RM50/day (if u bargain kow-kow). Other reasonable car will be Nissan sentra 1.6/Honda 1.7 which is about RM70/day. Toyota Altis 1.6 is about RM80/day.

I negotiated nissan sentra 1.6 (very new) for only RM250 for 4D3N on my last trip last Dec. Try car rental booth at the right of the airport exit. The left is a bit pricy from my experiences..

Stimix... mana you got your car from? I plan to stay at Holiday Villa... after "extensive" research... still doubt the hotel coz got quite a fair bit of adverse comments on filthy toilets and cocroaches partying on the floors at night... sigh...

Added on March 10, 2007, 11:18 pmSorry noted that you got the car from the right stall at the airport exit...

One simple but important tips for those who are going to do island hopping in langkawi:

Bring along bottle of driking water!

That's what happend to me when i din't drink enough water + lots of swimming + strong wind during travelling with speed boat + under hot malaysia tropical sun + tonnes of tax free chocolates = FEVER!!

Can't get out of my bed for 2 days...

Enjoy your trip!

leewai... another important aspect of the trip... island hopping.. where can I find speedboat travels and what are the prices like? Do they charge per head? For how long? How many island visits?

How much will it be to charter a trip to Pulau Payar?

actually to qualify for the duty free in langkawi, you only need 48 hours instead of 72 hours.

Sorry to confused u. What I meant was both the car rental rate for 4D3N & 3D2N stays was at RM250 each..thus the right counter cheaper i.e RM250 for 4d3N wth very new auto sentra whereas the left counter gv me an old Manual sentra at the same price....so adviseable goin to the right counter.

For Island hopping there are 3 locations to catch the speedboat i.e

1) Southwest islands hopping (Singa Besar groups) - Take left turn at TM Resort about 1.5KM b4 Awana Porto Mailai & the "beach" jetty is at the end road - price about RM30-per pax (Can't remember)

2) North East Islands - At Tg Rhu. , Swamp tour - Jetty at Air Hangat at the end of the road nxt to Gallery perdana

3) Main Kuah jetty - Payar Island/ Pulau Dayang bunting & etc. - price to Payar ranging from RM80 to RM200 /pax (Full day + lunch)
