I stayed at Istana condo for new year's eve and it was pretty nice. Place is clean and not too bad overall.

WOuld like to go for mangrove trip and island hopping....do i need to go buy package trip at airport or just go to the jetty for direct trip...never done it before....anyone can inform me how to go for this trip? thanks..

u can ask car rental agent, hotel travel agent or some agent will station at Pantai Cenang town (there's one opposite PalmView Restaurant)
try to nego with them if u have more people

you will enjoy Ban Thai restaurant then.. It is located in the middle of the mangrove swamp..

The place was visited by our Tun Dr. M last time when they had some international meeting there. Got free pick up service from your hotel/place you stay also.

just back from langkawi Tuesday night, rented Wira auto from Saturday 6pm till Tuesday 9pm for RM160
- Rented a whole boat for mangrove tour RM200
- there is a nice laksa stall (a lorry actually) nearby airport (the seaside road around the airport lane if you know what I mean - will definitely use that road if you were driving from airport to pantai cenang) , it's called laksa power 3 lol..ate there twice..can go around 6pm

bro, since ure kinda langkawi expert, it wud really helps if u cud give ur view on my coming trips. hehe i decided to stay in sunset resort beach with rm150 per night. prob is most of d prices here in the langkawi thread(i read thru 50 pages) kinda old, hence the prices is also not updated. im going on d 7th-9th september, off peak season. shudve be cheaper right? ive learned from d forumers here to nego kow2 with the car rental in airport. id like to hv a sentra 1.6, how much shud i demand it from them? since i really dun wan to b a laughing stock for overlowereing d price. my plan is cable car and shopping so far, dont realy know werelse shud i go lol, those places mentioned some give -ve review, kinda scare that im paying for something arent worth it.

150 +/- is pretty reasonable for a decent hotel like sunset beach(even at off peak)
sentra shud be around RM80/24hours for off peak period

1) u dun really need to rent the car at the booth, those are normally more pricey
those car rental agent will approach once u got out from the arrival hall
all of them will ask rent a car sir, kancil, myvi, kelisa, sentra etc
then u ask them sentra berapa, nego nego
if nego until ngam then go see how's the car, check check
if satisfy baru pay, they're loads of car for u to choose

2) me for one, who do not swim at sea. will choose langkasuka over the motels at pantai cenang for better sleep and room condition.

3) if u really want to rush, u can go check in to hotel once u reach LGK. then straight away head to Gng Mat Cincang. when i was there, cable car only start operate at 12. but take note of the weather, if its cloudy or before that it rains. then better opt for other place as u can't see anything up there.

recently just came back from langkawi for holiday. i got an offer for car rental when i walk out from the airport. rm100 for 3 days 2 nights for wira special edition. isn't quite cheap? plus... that's a new car. with out any hassle i straight away say yes....then have a look at the car then cabutzz. well....bought quite a lot of liquor and ciggy for myself and friends.

ah rm100 for 3d 2n? isit meant rm50 per day? how exactly will they charge for a 3d2n trips? lets say i arrive at 1pm on 1st day, going back 1pm on 3rd day, means i need to pay 2 days rent or 3 days? rm100 wira SE auto or maniual bro? im going with my gf, no nid big car actualy but duwan kancil kelisa kenari oso, not everyday go date in langkawi, a bit sporty car wont harm ^^.

Depending on your bargaining power..They normally ask what time u leave on the last day and if u say Morning...before 10am..for sure that Morning will be free..Even u came in on 1st day & pretty late>6pm let say...That nite will be free too..

RM50 for renting a new wira is pretty standard in langkawi.(older Wira=RM40).Kancil about RM40, Waja - RM60, Nissan Sentra/Honda Civic -RM70, Toyota Altis -RM80. U can even drive a Hyundai Coupe for RM60 - in bad condition-lah

walao waja only 60? my travel agent put me rm100 for it, lol. it wont be a prob for me to bargain if i know the 'cheapest' price or maybe normal price for it since there are plenty of cars out there for some1else to go and rent, guess they ll just agree with my price instead of just let it parked there^^

ermm think back on it, i reach lgk 1pm and leave 3 days after around 11am, so i should only rent it for two days right?

So - bargain kaw-kaw -atleast 50% of the rack rate!

hi there, my schedule went out pretty well, in fact have plenty of free time too as I leave the Island on the late flight.
Restaurant with reasonable price that i tried - Fatmum (pantai tengah) and Palm view (pantai cenang) , both with price stated on the menu (for normal dish : small for Rm8 , medium for Rm10 etc.)

Chocolate and liquor wise I went to a few shops around the RuTian Restaurant (only eat mee , not order dish so cant really comment but was OK) , Billion and Teoh Soon Huat. Some are cheaper at one place and some are at another, so if you have time you can compare and don have to buy immediately on the spot. My pick for chocolate - Rigger Sport (DO i spell it correctly?) with Rum and Raisin (RM10.50 for 3) but of course it is expiring pretty soon (one or two months time) .

If you want to eat some budget lunch then go RuTian during afternoon time as they have a few hawker stalls there

oh ya, it's rambutan season now..very cheap and nice you can buy it almost everywhere on the road side..ate it everyday especially when I was driving
