I almost got sting by a black scorpion few mins ago. It is almost the size of my palm.

What happen is i need to open the gate everytime i came home and this time when i got down to open the gate suddenly i felt that there is something on my leg so i bend down and have a look then i saw some 8 legged freaks kinda insect so i faster kick it off lo.

after i kick it off then only i saw the creature. It is 1 big black scorpion.

So, what i wanted to know is ... What should i put to prevent this dangerous creature from coming into my house / room ?

Scorpion, caterpillar or snakes ... all those kinda creatures ... how to prevent as i am staying alone most of the time.

a big scorpion crawl up your leg? Hmm you must be staying in some secluded place near jungle ler. I used to live surroiunded by Jungle ans that has never happened to me. ANyway Im not too sure how to prevent it from coming in besides just closing all the doors and windows. Make sure there are no holes where it is able to come in.

Not really secluded area. maybe because of the back of my house got 1 big jungle area but i think i am pretty lucky lo coz the scorpion is right on my feet and i am still walking ... when i walk 2/3 step only i notice something weird on my leg so bend down n see. ( ngam ngam in front of my car so can see from the car light )

after kick the scorpion off ... it crawl towards my house so i take a broom and whack it lo. At first got snap photo one but it was in night mode so the shuttle is delayed which the pic ended up very blur ( too suspense till forgot to ON flash )

do what the professionals do. wear hiking boots & always keep a snake stick at arm's reach.

on a more practical note, those electronic high frequency emitting pest repellant thingies might work.

Sulfur is kind of multi purpose usage. It can help prevent snakes, ants, scorpions, spiders, and etc etc... it can even help prevent wildboar too smile.gif

Sulfur is crucial thing where I always bring it for camping. It really helps to prevent some dangerous creatures.

You can buy sulfur from hardware shop. It is quite cheap. Normally available in yellow color. wink.gif

relax lar ppl. If u see a scorp...dun worry. It cant run fast. Sweep it away with a broom or something. Same goes for pedes and spiders. None of those animals can cause death...worst case scenario u get stung...tehre will be localised swelling, redness and pain. symptoms last anywhere from a few hours to max of 2 days.

If its a snake then be more careful..they can gldier very quickly and some may be venomous to a point where even crocodila hunter dun wanna get biten by that. haha. Coz malaysia is home to various species of cobra, vipers and also huge pythons. Anyway...just scare it away with a stick...dont get too near. They will not ac agressively unless cornered. Their number one choice of action is alwez to flee the scene.

everything with life deserved to live. dont simply kill something if u dont have to. as long as it's no longer a threat to u. why kill it?

You can't really blame them. It is because they are not expose to this kind of creatures, to them, one sting from these creatures can take away their lives. So in order to protect themselves and the family, they'll kill these creatures. I will do the same if i'm younger, but now, other than snakes, i'll keep them in tank. tongue.gif

Yea, that's what i'm trying to say. Haih, our country is different from countries like US or Aus where they give animals talk from school to school. Where the children there get the knowledge of handling the animals, how to prevent them and so on...

So, who's going to be the first Pemburu Buaya here?? Malaysia boleh!!

But who's free enough to do this? Cos it'll be school hours when you give speech, and most of them are working at this hours. sweat.gif

Unless officers from zoo are willing to volunteer since their job is dealing with animals and they no need to take leave just to give talk.

If you are allergic to venom the symtoms and effects can be much more severe. From normal swelling to fevers and vomitting. The worst case scenario is a coma or even death though I have never heard about scorpion stings though. Mostly bee stings have been reported to have brought death.

I dont blame them for that.
If one think a scorpion sting could put somebody to death or serious illness, then i admire his courage to kill the scorp so that it wont kill others in the neighbourhood.

I understand some scorpions keepers and yet my gang of tarantula keepers might not happy to see this. But imagine the situation now is an unharmful snake that try to crawl into your house and you dont know heck about snake, you probably thought every snake is aggresive and venomous to put you into hospital or coffin. What would you do?

Well maybe Vins need to take the blame for being ignorance about this creatures, and the the scorpion take part of it as for entering human territory.

Agree to that.
But sometimes I need to constantly remind myself that we are all part of the food chains before i can throw in a meal worms or cricket to my tarantula and start eating my kfc chicken. Im sure all those chicken that i ate and mealworms that i feed to my tarantula was never a threat to me, but why i kill them.

Read Herefor bite reports of the scorpions keeper.
Especially this one -> Homometrus Spinifer

Im not a doctor but it is still safe to say that very unlikely a malaysian scorpion will caused death to even those allergic to it.
And smellyocheese said, a peanut can kill you if you are allergic to it.

Vei hong, i think it is human normal reaction. Not everyone had an interest in getting to know insect. Everyone have a different hobby. I am doing what the normal other human do. Its not that i purposely go look for one or it pass by my house. It is right on my feet and its crawling towards my house.

This pic is to show the size of the scorpion.

Anyway that is a very nice scorpions.
Lucky you never get stung by it.

Agree to that.
But sometimes I need to constantly remind myself that we are all part of the food chains before i can throw in a meal worms or cricket to my tarantula and start eating my kfc chicken. Im sure all those chicken that i ate and mealworms that i feed to my tarantula was never a threat to me, but why i kill them.

well like i said, if you dont have to, dont kill.

Aiyoh...aunty ar...u come a buat heboh about a lil scorpion for wat ler blink.gif
I already said...its not poisonous but it is still painful.

-All scorpions are venomous but only some are poisonous to man/woman/watever
-Dun go ask the JPH or any other gomen body la...u want info ask Perhilitan...most likely they dun evenknow what species it is.
U will only die if u are allergic to insect venom...but chances of you having that is even lower. But then we do have some people who are so damn lucky with the wrong kind of luck la... laugh.gif

Our local species are very interesting. Usually the color black will deceive people that its a dangerous creature...its not true...

How to identify a dangerous scropion...
If a scorpion has big pincers and a small tail like this one, its not dangerous.
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/p_cavimanus5.jpg
U may think that it has a fat tail...but its not tat fat compared to the size of the body...This one is from Africa. (FYI : spinifers are quite reluctant to sting. They only attack with their tail when i start pulling it.

However, if u see a slightly harmless looking scorpion with thin pincers but having a med size tail...its likely a venomous species.
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/l_mucronatus_m.jpg
This one is from Malaysia. But still it won't kill you. Your pain may last longer than the usual Heterometrus stings.

However, next we approach the deadly ones.Looks harmless and nice, but if u get tagged (IF) u have about 2-4 hours to prepare you will...SURE DIE sweat.gif
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/l_quinquestriatus3.jpg
Leiurus quinquetriatus
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/a_australis5.jpg
Androctonus australis

Another way of id-ing is through the coloration of the scorpion.
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/h_jayakari_salei4.jpg
See the tail color ?
Usually its a warning so tat others dun mess with it.

http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/u_planimanus.jpg
This one got black marking on the chelae...but it has a small tail. It won't kill u but torture u...maybe la laugh.gif

So as a conclusion,u murdered an innocent fella trying to cross an obstacle which happen to be your leg. laugh.gif
Scorpions will not attack you unless u mess with it first. If given a choice, it will likely make a run for it and hide. They only sting when they are cornered or cannot escape. Usually they will strike a pose to showu they are not in a good mood so u shud leave it alone. So to be safe, keep your house clean, dun go into the forest wearing slippers, and dun put your hands or fingers inside cracks or crevices.

Oh yar and about the pejabat haiwan thingy...seriously, they know nothing about scorpions...if they see one, its as good as dead. doh.gif We shud be lucky we dun have desert scorpions here, otherwise, u have a good reason to be scared haha (but then again, not all desert scorpions are poisonous)
Scorpions can be an interesting pet to keep...better alive then dead.
