In light of more and more people doing weights, especially free weights.

Maybe it's time for Fitness First to upgrade their equipments and increase size of the free-weight rooms.

Especially the one at Manulife and Damansara Uptown, free weight session is quite small.

Yeah I agree Neek. That would be a lot feasible in doing bicep curls and tricep curls.

To Disciple,

All plates used for smith machine/benchpress/shouldpress/squats are in kgs in Fitness First ranging from 10kg being the lightest to 25kg being the heaviest.

Cheers,

Ken

Can increase by 1.25kg per side when trying to increase weight, ie. 2.5kg instead of having to put 2.5kg each side.

This especially holds true when doing bicep curls. I doubt many people can increase 5kg for every increment when doing barbell bicep curls or tricep curls for that matter.

One year free pass?

That is almost RM2,000.

Still waiting for my company to finish negotiating the so called 'Corporate' rate.

Need to save some money, RM175 is lotsa money to pay for gym.

Back in Melbourne, gym only cost Au$30-35 bucks max and that's less than RM100.

Finally, my employer has given a green light for corporate rate for Fitness First.

My passport fitness first membership is gonna cost RM130 instead of RM175, about damn time.

Commercial gyms are expensive. Supplements are no different too. Given future forecast of the economy, best save as much as possible especially since price of petroluem is gonna increase like 25% next year.

Corporate rate usually mean either the company pays for it or the company get so many people to join that the extra 45 bucks is waived for per member.

Well, Deloitte Singapore has even a better deal but it's not with Fitness First. My friend is paying like SGD2 per month to use a commercial gym in Singapore. That is like RM5. I doubt any of us get that kinda of deal.

In Australia, gyms are usually provided by employer for free. Due to the fact most gyms there won't cost more than Au$80 per month. My university gym was like Au$30 per month and the weights room is like 4 times any weights room I see in any Fitness First centre in Malaysia just of yet.

Here you go:

Lotsa cardiovascular exercise + consistency + persistency + proper diet

You could also ask most of Personal trainer there, they are pretty friendly and could customize a work out routine for you.

I think you get 2 free session.

Then the rest you'll need to pay the Personal Trainer.

They'll measure your body fat %, weight and height before drawing out an exercise routine.

U work in UOB victorboy?

Wow, that's really closed to where I am working at.

I usually work out in Manulife Fitness First. Corporate rate thingie is quite sad actually, just did mine. Have to renew the contract for another year plus pay RM99 as administration fee.

Well, probably get to save some money in the long run. For passport is RM130 and for home is RM100 for my employer.

No worries mate anytime.

Good thing employers are willing to support this healthy lifestyle these days.

Hopefully one day they will totally pay the whole thing hehe.

Nice. Many people paying cheaper than me.

I am paying RM130 for passport after corporate rate.

Damn, hopefully the firm would further sponsor my gym membership then I would be able to buy some supplements.

You can get corporate only if your employer offers it.

Just ask your employer to sort of sponsored it by introducing widely for the whole firm.

It's difficult over here. In other countries like Singapore and Australia, gym membership is usually given by the employer for free, MNCs and big local firms.

Last year when I joined. It was RM159 for home and RM179 for passport.

At least my employer is paying part of it therefore it isn't too taxing for me at the moment. I am paying like RM130 for passport at the moment. The catch is I have to hold this membership for another year. At least I am able to transfer it to someone when I do not want it anymore.

Gym fees increase with the increase of inflation...

RM159 and RM179 is quite unaffordable, maybe they take account if everybody joined those classes and do all the weights machine plus free weights and all the cardio machines as well.

How much did the membership started out with? Back when Fitness First was first introduced?

About the FF Curve? How's it like? Better than the uptown FF?

Thanks in advance.

Seriously? Uptown smaller than Curve?

Haih, than I am pretty sure Manulife is probably the smallest in the whole Klang Valley for sure.

Coz it's smaller than Uptown's one.

Good thing, company is moving to 1 Utama by May. smile.gif

I am there, you can catch me there after 6:30 pm either on monday - wednesday, definitely on Friday (my favourite work out there when I can actually push myself to the absolutely maximum without needing to wake up the next day for work).

@Neek

Dear Neek,

Actually when do you go there Neek? Sorry I have no idea how you look like.

I am usually quite chatty with at least one or 2 buddies there. Sometimes I talk to the trainers and the manager there as well, his name is Sim, nice fella.

Cheers,

Ken

Thanks Syd G,

I will chat to him when I see a guy similar to your description.

Hmm, kinda sad I would have to change to the Curve Fitness First in 2 months time (Due to the moving of my employer) . I would have to start over making new friends in that gym again.

I did enquire how much PT session costs earlier this year.

When you just start, you are entitled for 2 free sessions.

For 10 sessions minimum, costs about RM1,300.

For 3 months, can't remember how many sessions though it is RM2,700. (They have to give you results in this one, so they claim)

So far, I would recommend Simran who is the Manager from Manulife. He did give me a free session in weights training and also he is a very good motivator.

His background was that he used to train people and athletes in Adelaide as a personal trainer.

Are you sure? I'm a member @ FF Menara Manulife. Paying Rm165/month for their so called student passport membership. I can go in and out anytime i want. No time restriction. Peak or off peak, just swipe the card and you're in...  rclxms.gif

Sounds quite reasonable considering the normal one would cost like RM179 if not mistaken.

How do you substantiate that you are a student to Fitness First?

I am also a member of Fitness First "Passport", I go to the Manulife during workdays and Uptown on the weekends.
