QUOTE(mozambique @ Apr 6 2013, 12:56 AM) Hi SAMPERTH, Thanks for the pictures - i am 100% your big one is a girl and is almost ready for breeding ( usually first start to drop egg 7-8" ) As promised, pls find all the attached pic. Pls help me to sex them accurately. Thanks a million!! While the smaller one which looks like a girl COULD be Male ( longer tail - boy like ) !! The plastron opening where the tail is has lost its ( inverted V ) BUT the plastron is quite flat( girl like ) ??? So i only dare sex it 60 % boy - do monitor its behaviour over the next couple of months ( if it is a boy he will or should have start ramming the girl ) In indian star tortoise world girl (10-13" or more ) will grow up bigger than Boy ( 8-9" max ) Cheers |

QUOTE(mozambique @ Apr 6 2013, 07:55 PM) OMG!!! Are you sure? From this pic the long claw may say its a her instead !! All along I thought it was the opposite because: 1) That was what the seller and the vet (from zoo negara) told me; 2) Plus from the pic whereby the bigger star seemed to be raming the smaller star as well??? I attached the pic in the earlier post; 3) The anal scutes of the bigger star is a sharp v shape; 4) The bigger star has concave plastrons On 27th July 2012, their length is 13.5cm vs 11.8 cm On 06th March 2013, their length is 15cm vs 12.2cm I attached another pic so that u can see the tail of the smaller star clearer. So pic is hard to say , i need to hold it feel it to be 100% sure !! You did mention the plastron a bit concave - thats not the best way to sex ( if kept incorrectly some male can have flat plastron or female can also have slight concave ) Cheers |

QUOTE(leftytattoo @ Apr 14 2013, 04:31 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig-nosed_turtle QUOTE(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig-nosed_turtle) Systematics This species is the only living member of the genus Carettochelys, the subfamily Carettochelyinae and the family Carettochelyidae, though several extinct carettochelyid species have been described from around the world. Some literature claims two subspecies, but a recent paper rejects this. Just 1 type !! Cheers |

QUOTE(figmacollector @ Apr 18 2013, 08:05 PM) u sure? bcuz i checked their cloaca.. its near to their is near to the shell.. not far apart. I only answered from what i have - that dance !! and their underneath shell are flat.. not indent.. its probably too early to identify their sex.. Dont even know how big or old they are. By the way adult slider have rather flat plastron !! As for tail part yours are pretty long ( from video ) so another indication its male !! Cheers |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Apr 20 2013, 05:33 PM) Sifu, Yes , possible but many eggs will be infertile !! Does it even possible for cross breeding between species? It is next to impossible to find Egyptian tortoise currently, and I am very sad if my tortoise have to life alone without a life partner But Egyptian are so small as adult so not many species available to pair up !! Cheers |

QUOTE(tunafish @ Apr 25 2013, 06:35 AM) Hi, I've been reading TTT thread for many years and this is my first ever post. First of all, I would like to say a big thank you for those knowledgeable and experienced hobbyists for willing to share their valuable and useful knowledge so that beginner like me can know more about how to take good care of a tortoise. This thread had taught me a lot .I am also feeling proud and glad that a lot of experienced hobbyists in Malaysia are actually breeding the tortoise. Especially for those endangered species. I really think that it is part of our job to stop the endangered species from being extinct and it is also my ultimate goal as a hobbyist. I will continue learning so that I can finally breed them one day and stop them from being extinct. [attachmentid=3410204]I currently having a pair of radiated tortoise. One of them is growing smoothly but the other one is having the problem of fused scutes. The one that have fused scutes is around 8 inches long. As for their diet, I feed them plantain, hisbiscus flower+leaves, cabbage, opuntia cactus, mulberry leaves, sweet potato leaves and sometimes carrot. I bask them on a daily basis under the morning sunlight(7-9am). I tried to brush the fused scutes using a toothbrush everyday but nothing seem to have changed. I understand that it might be hard to recover since the tortoise is not that young anymore but I just don't feel like doing nothing and let the fused scutes to be worsen by time. Are there anything else that can be done to improve the fused scutes of my tortoise? Thank you very much ![]() Someone posted this picture on this thread a few Version ago !! Looks like the exact same few scutes as yours that got fused togather !! No update from that poster ....... !! So............ whats the point of having a one sided discussion with no feedback later on !! Cheers This post has been edited by SAMPERTH: Apr 25 2013, 08:30 PM |

QUOTE(tunafish @ Apr 25 2013, 11:25 PM) I know that feeling when you are like reply to you own post. I feel sorry about that but I can't control how people choose to post and run away. I can only assure you I won't do the same thing as they did. I will be more than willing to share my knowledge and experiences about this species, if I have any. I am still on the process of reading all the posts in TTTthreads all over again, but this will take months.Hope I can find more information about radiated tortoise as it is one of the rare and e ndangered species. I know , thus contributing less and less but still I am doing my part !! If not I am long gone like many others sifu and senior of this thread !!Cheers |

QUOTE(marcuslpm @ Apr 29 2013, 03:04 PM) Dont phew too soon !! Even thou not diet caused on the softness BUT - lack of calcium will cause it to remain soft even after hatchling stage - the " white " will also cause the shell not to harden too !! Some sort of " rot " that will spread ( i use aquarium yellow powder or white spot special or just S1 to control and reduce ) Cheers |
