My indoor setting very very basic
- tropical sp , i use wood bark ( exo terra forest bark ) or similar as substrate and a hide just like my Indotestudo hatchlings pic i posted yesterday . Heat provided from above till they about 4-6" depending on sp

- drier sp , i use paper pellets or wood pellets as substrate and a hide !! Food fed on a plate . Heat provided like above !!

All watering done out of enclosure / container .... So substrate need to cope  only with pee and poo ( last longer )

Outdoor one varies and changes as the " season needs " but some ( tropical sp like footed , elongated , spider or hinges .... ) on grounds 24/7 only moved if greens stop growing or dont grow as well( usually once a year )  !!

Cheers

Just be warn unless its ex-pet ( thus LTC ) all Kleinman's in our country are WC import !!

If can afford pls buy more as they become more rare in the trade as times fly . If not for their size i would have bought more to work with them !

Cheers

This thread is sure silent......

Anyway I am in the process of re-building an enclosure for my tortoise. The list I should have are;

- UV light - 1 x PT-2192 Solar Glo 125W (inclusive UVA and UVB plus Heat) & 1 x PT-2056 ET Porcelain Clamp Reflector Large

- Substrate - I will use Alfafa Hay.

- Bathing everyday or every other day.

- Food - Mainly Mazuri.

Any other suggestion in general for my setup?

May I know the size of the enclosure? And which specie are you keeping?

Tq..  thumbup.gif

45cm x 60cm for enclosure but will upgrade for a bigger size soon, at least . I really wish to set up outdoor closure but afraid people break into my housing area and kidnap my tortoise cry.gif

The species is Kleinmann's tortoise.

Where do you get mazuri food from?

Hi wKkaY,

Fortunately it relatively easy to get your hand on Mazuri nowadays. Below is the list that can help you to buy Mazuri;

LOL.. I have the same worry too if I keep it outdoor.. plus kena gigit by rats, dog, etc..  tongue.gif

Egyptian tortoise.. Hmmm.. didn't see anyone selling it.

It is almost wiped out, even in Egypt itself. I intended to search throughout the world for a female tortoise so I can pair them up for future rebreeding.

What about yours?  biggrin.gif
*
Around 4 figures as well. Not the price is not the issue, availability is sweat.gif

I am also a newbie.. less than a year experience..  tongue.gif

I'm keeping the leopard in a blue fiber tank with black soil mixed with coconut coil.

I'm keeping my star in a cage with those black floor mat. Not an idea enclosure but I try to soak them a bit more frequent to avoid dehydration.

I have limited space as I am keeping all four on my balcony..    hmm.gif

What about you? Care to share?

I am having a hard time searching for a suitable substrate for my tortoise. May I know where do you bought your black soil and coco coil? Currently using hay but not recommended in a long run because it contains too much protein that will cause kidney failure on continuous consumption.

Also if there is any chance, do your current house near any pet shop? I need to purchase UVB bulb and thermometer and whatnot but nonono (@ nonono) don't have the stock right now sweat.gif

Thinking of selling my rarest Egyptian tortoise due to some potential problem in future.

I think I am the sole owner in Malaysia. Wonder how much the price will be... hmm.gif

Even with less than 500 wild specimen ( less than that number in captive )  Yniphora can only command less than RM 5000 a pc ( last known price of 3" ) HOW much do you think an Egyptian is worth ( you can think many things BUT there are a few hundred captive specimen in the world ) I know many of those colony - Europe , USA , parts of Asia including Malaysia ..................

EGYPTIAN are not that rare overall as a sp !!

Pricing is what you think its worth - IF YOU LIKE its priceless , if you dont need it anymore its worthless till you found another who wants and needs it  !!

SINCE you mention me , I reply what I know !!
*
Just personally asked in the pet shop, top floor MidValley. They quote me approximately RM10k for tortoise of 5-7 years old. Hatchling >RM700.

Point taken though regarding your bolded statement! cheers.gif

I have a few european friends telling me that there are some rich collectors who are willing to dish out Euro 100k for legal baby Yni with paper trail - compare that with RM 10 k egyptian ( i doubt this pricing thou ) or RM 9xxx for aldabran

About same price from US collectors but in USD !! Thats how rare Yni are in non asian country !! If can afford buy before its too late ( maybe already too late as harder to sight one in market nowadays as compared to few years back )
*
10k is not for BABY.

Its for 7-10 years old healthy tortoise.

Yni ( cant be legally owned in most case ) cant be compared with Aldabra ( can be legally owned and legally bred elsewhere - takes years many years to mature to reproduce thus the higher price ? )
Most sp that are sold in Malaysian market can reproduced in under 10 years - Aldabra takes about 15-20 years to do that .
*
Yniphora is really one majestic looking creatures.

For Aldabra, do you happened to have in your vast collection Samperth? How hard to get the legal paper for this tortoise?

Just go to any nusery, get those black soil premixed with coconut coil. Tell them you want those without any pesticide added.

Huh? What is "+ something + something"?

To make it simple: Usually I just go to any nursery, tell them I need black soil mixed with coconut coil without any pesticide added. To save your concern, it's better to go to a nursery that you can trust.

The above is just my way. It might be wrong. Better to get the opinion of other forumers who are more experience. I'm only under-a-year tortoise keeper..  tongue.gif
*
Double checked regarding the existance of pesticide in this soil - its none.

I am concern if they use animal poop as fertilizer, like a bat poop or something. I am afraid that will bring harm to my tortoise health. So as precaution, I only cover 1/5 of the total area with this soil and see his development.

So far everything is good smile.gif
