QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 28 2013, 09:40 PM) Without adb, things will get complicated depending how badly I want data in your /data partition, which will contains keys for your Google/FB/Tweeter accounts, etc. Easiest to brute force your lock screen, dont need SIM PIN. kekeke. i think windows users are not aware that people can just access their device without having to hack their login info. just a liveusb would do Worst case, I will unlock your phone, it may wipe your /data (some OEM phone actually will not wipe your /data) but attempt to recover the partitions later. It's just like recovering deleted files in ext4 FS in Linux. Just don't lose your phone. but seriously guys, if you are not working in a highly sensitive environment , unlocking the bootloader and keeping it unlocked is relatively safe. security risk is always there, even when you are fully stock, fully locked etc. |

QUOTE(azrash @ Jan 28 2013, 09:29 PM) yeap, which is why i use bootunlocker + stock recovery once i am done flashing my ROM+kernel. bootunlocker will re lock the bootloader. if someone want to gain access, unlocking the bootloader will wipe my device. +1online banking apps are smart enough to remove cache files during exit, so i wont worry much about that. you are more likely to be hacked from connecting to a public non secure wifi than from a hacker gaining physical access to your device. most thieves are just going to steal your device and sell it for a quick cash, they won't go to the length of accessng your phone's data. most of the shops will just flash a stock image too. However, if you are working in a sensitive environment whereby your device might be targeted for data theft, i suggest you to keep fully stock, bootloader locked as well. when installing for apps, look for permissions that those apps are looking for. your IT deparment might have more info on how to secure your device (encryption etc) if they are well versed on security. Else, you can Google for how to secure your device for a sensitive environment. i do advise you to assess their recommendation, not all websites provide good recommendation. I just like to know my device is secure. i do not work in a sensitive environment, but pretty sensitive about my privacy. right now, i am rooted with CM. using bootunlocker(my bootloader is locked) + stock recovery + OpenPdroid + AFWall + Cerberus to secure my device. Cerberus is a good anti theft app. paid app, but worth it i'd say. open pdroid allows you to limit the access that apps request. i block FB's tonnes of unnecessary permision requestrefer my reply above on common thieves. for average usercase, unlocking the bootloader won't cause you harm. are you working in a highly sensitive environment? yeap, just try doing those two and check the BBS stats again. and Linux has single boot ps: online banking app actually just wrapper around https to the bank internet banking, will not keep your password... From what I read, the biggest risk to unlocked bootloader is that if you had inadvertently installed a third party apk or custom rom that contains some malicious code which alters your boot sequence or install apps that plant codes example keyloggers that log your password as you type, then you're screwed. You don't even need to lose your phone in this case.
Anyway, as mentioned, best is if one is using it for work, then advisable to just remain stock |

You don't even need to lose your phone in this case. XDA has recommends ROM developers to honour GPL. so if you stick with ROMs that have their sources open, you should be safer. CM AOKP and most other ROMs are adhering to this.Anyway, as mentioned, best is if one is using it for work, then advisable to just remain stock installing apk from an unknown or unverified sources is definitely more unsafe than the ones in play store. again, security risk exists in any configuration. but yeah, stock + encrypt is safer for highly sensitive environment. hope you'll get another set to play around! |

when the screen sleeps and i wish to unlock the screen,
are there any other ways to do so without pressing the power on/off button? i'm trying to reduce the reliance of my power on/off button and don't want it to spoil so easily. |

What the....add on RM100 can get from SenQ with 1 extra year of warranty and another 8gb added. LOL.And IF SenQ accept the RM200 for N4, that means RM1469 with 2 year warranty + 8 gb more compared to IpMart's RM1549 for 8GB. |

You can do that even without rooting or unlocking. Just checked the "Allow Unknown Sources" in setting and use Blackmat, etc. Good luck to your security.Anyway, as mentioned, best is if one is using it for work, then advisable to just remain stock PS: unlike most OS, installing a keylogger in android does not require root.
