QUOTE(benny888 @ Jan 28 2013, 10:54 AM) It is easily done just be using the Nexus 4 toolkit : Just pick what you want and the software does everything automatically Uncle Benny, need some guidance here. The rooting bug has bitten me but a noob on such things, would appreciate your comments if I got the sequence tighthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688 My situation - I am already using the phone extensively so I will want to restore my apps and settings over - I don't intend to flash customs roms and remain stock to get OTA updates With the toolkit, is this sequence correct, - option 1, install drivers - option 2, backup device - option 8, 1 click unlock, root etc - option 2, restore backup Question, where are the backup files located? If it's in the phone, then I will have to move it to PC and then move it back to restore after I root? Can I or should I relock bootloader after the rootas I read that leaving the bootloader open, may make the phone susceptible to malicious app Thanks for answering, uncle Benny and everyone else contributing This post has been edited by kuntakinte: Jan 28 2013, 01:32 PM |

Guys, Im getting like 13% of battery drop per hour. I use it only moderately with few phone calls and occasional whatsapp. After installing juicedefender, it was better at about 9-10% an hour drop. Are there any mods/hacks that increase battery life for good? Some of you mentioned that you can get 15-19hours on average use. How do you achieve that?

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Jan 28 2013, 01:06 PM) Don't have laser thermometer to measure that. i know......but isnt this snapdragon suppose to be > tegra 3? This is not Tegra 3 la. Since when does "running too much thing" in Android makes the phone heats up? Bro, you didn't do enough research. It has been proven by Anandtech that Nexus 4 will "slow down" the processor if the phone is overheating (reason unknown). Hence the lower benchmark scores compared to it's counterpart phones with same spec (LG Optimus G, HTC Droid DNA, etc) So yes, the lag was indeed caused by the heat. |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Jan 28 2013, 01:23 PM) Just normal web surfing using 3G connection after I took a PhotoSphere. Earlier I was having problem with the connection. Showing H but no connection (probably fall into Maxis' network), so I did some stuff like set to Airplane ON/OFF to try to reinitialise the connection, but failed. By doing all these stuff, phone starts to warm up. Not sure what's happening there. But I do know that, whenever I lost connection (data, network), it will automatically warms up.. Working in a plant with a lot of EM interference, sometimes really warms up the pocket. Have to off all data. So finally I force a reboot and I get back my connection. By that time, phone was quite warm already. So I just go with my usual stuff, G+, FB. Eventually it falls into hotter than "warm" category. That's where the keyboard went lagging on me. Most of the time when the CPU down clock, the most obvious lag would be the keyboard. Conclusion, I think the warmth is from your network connection. But getting laggy after that, I am clueless. Sifus sifus here have any idea why? |

QUOTE(herojack41 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:39 PM) I don't get such lag on my GNex if the device heats up, but that doesn't mean TI OMAP is better than the Snapdragon in Nexus 4.I didn't get the right term earlier, so I quote: QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 28 2013, 01:30 PM) Nexus 4 has a thermal throttle set to rather low at just 60 Celsius. So the CPU slow down to prevent overheat. However this is to low. It should be fine even at 75. I suspect that is what other phones are using. Silk check when I am free. This is the main reason why the lag appears, because of the sudden lacked of CPU resource for the apps to run.QUOTE(Kazz123 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:43 PM) Not sure what's happening there. But I do know that, whenever I lost connection (data, network), it will automatically warms up.. Working in a plant with a lot of EM interference, sometimes really warms up the pocket. Have to off all data. The heat generated from the lacked of signal was a collateral damage. It's accounted into the thermal detector used by the CPU as well. And I believe they are in the same area. So if 3G chip heats up, the CPU follows. It's SoC right? Meaning both CPU and 3G controller supposed to be on the same chip. Conclusion, I think the warmth is from your network connection. QUOTE(Harddisk @ Jan 28 2013, 01:44 PM) I don't get such lag on my GNex if the device heats up, but that doesn't mean TI OMAP is better than the Snapdragon in Nexus 4. So the conclusion is, try to have good connection every time to avoid device heating up. Or put it on a cold place, ie in front of aircond to cold it down. I didn't get the right term earlier, so I quote: This is the main reason why the lag appears, because of the sudden lacked of CPU resource for the apps to run. So there you go. Then I have another question, this constant heating and cooling, dies it affect the glass back? Am really concern with it cracking~~ huhuhu.. |

QUOTE(polarzbearz @ Jan 28 2013, 01:28 PM) Got to agree with this one on bold points. Some of my friend bought the phone and totally have zero knowledge on basic troubleshooting / etc. Couldn't even do a factory reset and just send it to service centre Well that what sc for. We paid them when they buying the device lol. |
