QUOTE(billy_overheat @ Jan 28 2013, 11:52 AM) Don't have laser thermometer to measure that.QUOTE(herojack41 @ Jan 28 2013, 11:53 AM) well.....while i gaming....my tegra 3 seems ok although the phone is very hot QUOTE(Kazz123 @ Jan 28 2013, 12:16 PM) Was using one power guard, and got a over heat warning, I think temperature is over 40 degree. But the phone didn't lag~~~ I Dun think the lag is from the heat bro~~ 2cents Bro, you didn't do enough research. It has been proven by Anandtech that Nexus 4 will "slow down" the processor if the phone is overheating (reason unknown). Hence the lower benchmark scores compared to it's counterpart phones with same spec (LG Optimus G, HTC Droid DNA, etc)So yes, the lag was indeed caused by the heat. |

QUOTE(Kazz123 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:13 PM) Ooooo.... Didn't read anandtech review~~ so far so good for my phone.. Anyway~~ what apps are u running? The only lag I experience is during apps installation... But that only lasted a sec or two... Just normal web surfing using 3G connection after I took a PhotoSphere. Earlier I was having problem with the connection. Showing H but no connection (probably fall into Maxis' network), so I did some stuff like set to Airplane ON/OFF to try to reinitialise the connection, but failed. By doing all these stuff, phone starts to warm up.So finally I force a reboot and I get back my connection. By that time, phone was quite warm already. So I just go with my usual stuff, G+, FB. Eventually it falls into hotter than "warm" category. That's where the keyboard went lagging on me. Most of the time when the CPU down clock, the most obvious lag would be the keyboard. |

QUOTE(herojack41 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:39 PM) I don't get such lag on my GNex if the device heats up, but that doesn't mean TI OMAP is better than the Snapdragon in Nexus 4.I didn't get the right term earlier, so I quote: QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 28 2013, 01:30 PM) Nexus 4 has a thermal throttle set to rather low at just 60 Celsius. So the CPU slow down to prevent overheat. However this is to low. It should be fine even at 75. I suspect that is what other phones are using. Silk check when I am free. This is the main reason why the lag appears, because of the sudden lacked of CPU resource for the apps to run.QUOTE(Kazz123 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:43 PM) Not sure what's happening there. But I do know that, whenever I lost connection (data, network), it will automatically warms up.. Working in a plant with a lot of EM interference, sometimes really warms up the pocket. Have to off all data. The heat generated from the lacked of signal was a collateral damage. It's accounted into the thermal detector used by the CPU as well. And I believe they are in the same area. So if 3G chip heats up, the CPU follows. It's SoC right? Meaning both CPU and 3G controller supposed to be on the same chip. Conclusion, I think the warmth is from your network connection. But getting laggy after that, I am clueless. Sifus sifus here have any idea why? So there you go. This post has been edited by Harddisk: Jan 28 2013, 01:47 PM |

QUOTE(Kazz123 @ Jan 28 2013, 01:53 PM) So the conclusion is, try to have good connection every time to avoid device heating up. Or put it on a cold place, ie in front of aircond to cold it down. Couldn't care less. If it will crack, it will crack. Then I have another question, this constant heating and cooling, dies it affect the glass back? Am really concern with it cracking~~ huhuhu.. The only way to avoid heating up the device is to not using it, which defeats the purpose of me buying it. So I'll use it, let it heats up, if the rear glass wanna crack, there's nothing I can do about it. The only thing is, if I could only safely lift the thermal throttle thing without risking the CPU burned. Anyway, having rear glass does help to dissipate the heat faster. |

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jan 28 2013, 03:07 PM) So far I know of only one case back glass cracked supposedly due to temperature change - affected was an editor from Droidlfe. Since he was from Droidlife this issue was spread all over the web. We do not really know the exact circumstances except he claim the " back getting warm from the heat of his hand. Then when he gently placed the phone on his room temperature countertop (I’m assuming the room temperature was quite low), the glass could not bear the sudden drop in temperature, resulting in the rather enormous crack ". He also claimed that similar thing happened to LG Optimus G which he was having it at that moment, together with photo shots of both phones with cracked rear glass. This was reported in late Nov Have not read/heard of any new such cases since than |

QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 28 2013, 04:02 PM) Did some checking on the thermal throttling issues. Apparently, Optimus G really has a much higher Thermal Throttle at 93C! Gotta compile the kernel yourself in order to make this work?https://github.com/jonasl/LGE970_ICS_kernel...e/j1/board-j1.c (line 1985-1999) CODE static struct msm_thermal_data msm_thermal_pdata = { .sensor_id = 7, .poll_ms = 1000, #ifdef CONFIG_MACH_LGE //sync with thermald-8064.conf's temperature. actually 60'C is too low to degrate CPU freqency to 918MHz .limit_temp = 93, //later carefully tune it #else .limit_temp = 60, #endif .temp_hysteresis = 10, .limit_freq = 918000, }; By comparison, the default thermal throttle for Nexus 4 is way low at 60C. If you believe your Nexus 4 always slow down due to thermal throttle, you should change the ".limit_temp = 60" to say 75C. I think it is still perfectly safe at 75C. |

Finally, found a faster line, but this is not a place I'd hangout at just for the sake of the faster connection

Both photo taken 1 after another with the same WB setting (not auto). Camera really sucks.

Any method to calibrate the gyro? Now I take PhotoSphere, the sensor sengek. Very difficult to take decent PhotoSphere now.
