Found this stuck to my gate earlier today....looks like TM is offering SDSL in my area. Anyone used SDSL before? (upload speed = download speed).

QUOTE(JayceOoi @ Feb 7 2017, 04:19 PM) Why I don't get this at my gate? Go for it. Better than 8Mbps Streamyx for sure. I need those upload speed for YouTube... Last Dec in post #1762, I had written about my line behaving strangely at specific times. My guess then was they were testing to see if my area could take a higher speed...methinks it passed the tests. Forumer rhytion also reported an increase in his SNR...perhaps his area was being tested too. IMO THIS should have been our "surprise" thank you gift in the first place.....dream on, andy...dream on.QUOTE(pokchik @ Feb 7 2017, 04:22 PM) wait.. that's a Unifi, how come it's SDSL? shouldn't it be Fiber? You could be right. Maybe it's thru fiber...at this juncture I'm not certain what medium is the last mile delivery for this package. For the time being, I'm not going to even inquire into it. TM has stated in their FAQ that those "surprise" gifts were not the be-all and end-all.and not aware that they still have that VIP package.. QUOTE Customers are encouraged to enjoy the current offers as well as the subsequent offers from TM. Rest assured, your acceptance of the current offer will not affect any future offers. Lets see what else they're gonna surprise us with. Am not gonna hold my breath. |

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Feb 7 2017, 06:40 PM) It says Unifi and I assume your house is landed and the last mile should be via fibre. Could it be the long rumored VDSL vectoring? Yes it's landed, and I really really have no idea how the last mile is done bro. The only fiber involved in my life is the kind which makes it easy and fast in the washroom |

QUOTE(mylinear @ Feb 7 2017, 07:12 PM) Those Unifi VIP packages were stopped a year or so ago when they came out with higher 30 / 50M packages. However old VIP package users are supposed to get double speed, for example 5M goes to 10M etc. The price of VIP 5M was RM149. Same as shown in your brochure. Wow..thanks for the info! So they're trying to foist off an old package to my neighborhood. Although Unifi is fiber, for high-rise with copper lines, the fiber goes up to the high-rise but within it, last section to user is still copper. Maybe your area has got some new fiber exchange and will use existing copper line as last mile. Maybe this is the 100K non-Unifi users they mention before. You could check if your area is covered by "regular" Unifi now, if not this could be something new in your area as above. When I saw that the upload speed = download, the first thing I thought of was symmetrical dsl. I guess it's just unifi fiber...the black cables with yellow line running along the length have been strung up here. |

QUOTE(mylinear @ Feb 7 2017, 11:27 PM) Now that does not make sense... If your area is covered by fibre lines for Unifi, then it should be for the new 30 / 50 / 100M packages. Why that brochure shows 5 / 10M is not clear. Can't be an old brochure as the date shows 2017. Maybe its targeting specific Streamyx users. Yeah they're probably targeting Streamyx users who can't or won't pay more (like me) for the faster unify packages, I guess. Till today I have yet to see a single black/yellow cable going into a house on my street, so I guess I'm not alone. This is a poorfag/cheapskate neighborhood If you happen to call to find out more details about that brochure, please update here. |

QUOTE(Exeunt @ Feb 8 2017, 12:10 PM) i dont know about the infrastructure but those black yellow line is not fibre in fact i read somewhere its a adsl vectoring thingy that can support higher speed only Now that is indeed interesting. Maybe an expert techie in this thread can throw some light onto that. Anyone? |

QUOTE(hashtag2016 @ Feb 9 2017, 06:30 PM) Are you sure it is SDSL ? i don't see any alibies from the picture... Nope not sure at all...saw upload = download speed, assumed it was symmetrical dsl.btw,if it were true, then this could be heaven or this could be hell. . coz it look like UNIFI, sound like UNIFI, price tag like UNIFI, but it is not necessary the same UNIFI we always talk about. they are not on the same par .. it is "screamyx inside". especialy if u r given private ip(soon or later), then u r skrew to the hell like screamyx user. ---- Welcome to the Hotel Screamyx2 You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave. |

QUOTE(rhytion @ Feb 8 2017, 04:18 PM) I think it's fibre lines since I never saw any copper cables from TM so far with that appearance. I once heard those cables are in fact a part of VDSL vectoring (I may be wrong), but they won't provide UniFi and instead something else, so if I'm not wrong they're probably delivering something else with fibre cables. In conclusion, dumbass TM for not providing UniFi eventhough there's the fibre infrastructure. Yesterday I chanced across a TM technician and asked him about the black n yellow cables. He said they're fiber optic cables...so I believe u r right!Anyway just got an email from TM due to my complaint that day to CFM, TM sent me an email today showing that they is indeed an upgrade for Streamyx users, but they will only contact those eligible starting from April 2017, so I guess don't have high hopes on this. |

QUOTE(($) @ Mar 9 2017, 10:29 PM) I would like to hear some feedback from you guys here. I was being told by a TM contractor who came to my house for service recently saying that the 8mbps plan offered by TM is actually another scam deal. Because he said there is no way we could really get that full 8mbps bandwidth with a copper line, even be within 5km of the supporting Streamyx TM exchange point. Is this true? No scam...but I have a crappy ping time today. ![]() Not to say yr installer is totally wrong too. When streamyx 4mbps was first offered in my town, TM point staff told me that I couldn't upgrade from 1mbps to 4mbps because my address was over 5km between 2 exchanges. FML! Fast forward a few years. A TM technician told me they were installing "boosters" to my area. I dunno what that "booster" is, but about 2 months later I could upgrade to 4mbps on the Blockbuster package and life was better. Fast forward 4+ more years. TM installed new grey cabinets, changed wooden telephone poles to cement, replaced the copper wiring and I was offered 8mbps for RM160 nett (GST had yet to be introduced). I didn't bite. Fast forward a few more years, price dropped to RM140 + GST for 8mbps and I subscribed to 8mbps in Aug 2016. Then TM added those black and yellow cables to my area. I was offered 5mbps with free upgrade to 10mbps, and recently offered unifi 30mbps. Am not biting. |

QUOTE(SlamberGamer @ May 22 2017, 02:30 PM) hi im also streamyx 8mb user.. but got unstable line.. called tmnet like 5 time they said my line ok.. im really pissed lol If your house wiring/modem/various cables are fine, then it may just be that TM is changing stuff around in your area.I used to have bouts of instability that lasted 30min to 2 hrs at regular intervals. The first octet of my IP address ranged from 106 to 172, 175 and up to 220. Was being bounced from address to address like a ping pong ball. Then last week i noticed that my IP address started with 10. , and that address didn't change till today. I no longer had a dynamic public IP address. Am no networking expert, but I believe I have been given a static private IP address. That's bad if u want other computers to "see" u online and communicate with your pc. The upside is my connect is rock-solid stable now. I have yet to try enabling IPv6 to see if that'll give me back a public dynamic IP address. |

QUOTE(Hwoarang45 @ Jun 5 2017, 01:17 PM) same my speed is erratic after IP switch to 10. did u file a complain? anyone has same issue ? whats going on? A short while after I posted that, I saw them digging up the underground power cables for the 3rd or 4th time this year, pumping out water and splicing cables. I decided to wait and see. After they finished, my connect was rock-solid and at full speed. Guess the TM cabinets were getting bad and intermittent power due to water damage. UNIFI user getting free upgrade left and right from the reward offer so streamyx user just suck thumb?? And yes I'm still sucking on thumbs and toes waiting for some reward offer from TM My speed just now: ![]() |

QUOTE(Hwoarang45 @ Jun 5 2017, 11:35 PM) hmm i wonder i should complain, overall speed is fast for me, but youtube very erratic, sometimes it wont cache or automatically set me to low sd res... really annoying me You may find some improvement if u experiment with the following:Try Google DNS or Open DNS instead of TM's DNS If you're on IPV6, try flipping over to IPV4 (or vice-versa) Try viewing youtube on Google Chrome...it seems to be faster at times than Firefox in my past experiences. Got any wardrivers/cheapskate neighbors leeching off yr wifi? Secure yr network and change the pw. I'm no networking expert...that's all I can think of to help u. |

QUOTE(ClarenceT @ Jul 5 2017, 12:08 PM) So TM is launching Unifi Lite 10 at RM129/149 (Broadband Improvement Plan 2017) to kill Streamyx 2/4/8 in 2017. And TM will cut Unifi Lite price to less than RM100 (Budget 2017) in 2018/9 to kill Streamyx 1/2/4. Others will be replaced by Wireless Webe. If we upgrade from 8mbps to Unifi Lite now, we'll be locked in for 2 yrs at RM129/149+GST.Assuming your info for 2018/19 pricing is correct, we'll be squeezing balls while others are paying much lower prices |

QUOTE(ClarenceT @ Jul 5 2017, 04:54 PM) Legally you can change or downgrade to any new Unifi package after 24 months (anytime for upgrade). Not sure if the subscription fee will be automatically reduced. Yup...that's what I was thinking. Will be inquiring on the availability of Unifi Lite 10 this week.Price drop will not happen in the next few months, as TM is busy on HSBB2/SUBB (till 2019) and they need your money for capital investment (2017/18). If you are Streamyx users, better migrate to Unifi now, as you are paying for better service, but paying more or less the same. Why wait for something that you don't know when or if it will happen. Not much you may save (24 months from now). |
