Maybe you need to reduce the photo size to attach.

not good...you wrap the under part of the HDD with the soft sponge (don't know proper name) which is blocking heat from dissipating from the chips.

ermm my suggesion is not on top but bottom, i have an external hard disk case and 250gb hd inside, and running over night the hd is super duper hot ( 70-75'C i think, cant even put your hand on it for 2 seconds )
and from that exprience, the bottom of HD is more hot ( the body not the electronics chip board side ) but its hard to and may be not that good to put heatsink there cause 1. scare short curcuit the electronics chip board 2. most of the HD body is come with pattern, so wont have flat surface to put your heatsink |

its a good idea but instead of mounting it like that y not just mount it like normal?? itll be better as heat moves upward.... and i see in the UV thread u have a fron intake fan...thatll already help with the cooling...
and like abubin said...the spongge will only block heat from dissipating from the chips. more dangerous actually. so my suggestion is to take off the sponge and just mount it the way its supposed to be in the case. the front intake fan will help move fresh air over the top heatsinks and also help move air below the hdd and help cool the chips at the bottom oh yeah....did u use any thermal tape/paste? itll work even better if u did... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() erm, this is what i did, just a huge chunk of heatsink to put onto my HDD, havent applied any thermal paste yet. the bottom part is hotter because the motor is located on the bottom of the frame, so if heat dissipation on top is faster, it can absorb the heat from bottom up. ps : look out at my siggy as i will sell them soon!!! cheap and practical solution |

if the heatsink is thinner and has more fins, it will be better...

Jus put a 80mm fan under the hdd..the black part where the motor is..ur hdd will plunge to room temp...u better remove tht sponge..its very bad...tht under part was specifically designed to dissipate heat which explains its uneven bottom painted wif black..a good colour for heat dissipation.
