To do more, you need to run a sniffer.

As most of the regulars here have said, just use the phone....no need to worry about wakelocks unless your phone runs down 50% without any activity.

You're an engineering student right (or was it someone else?)? Carry a battery bank, or if you have access to electrical measurement equipment, you could run some consumption tests and let us know what you think.

No real idea, but the basic technology is the same. You write some value to the tag, then when you tap it, the app reads the value and executes the stored tasks you defined.
