It's great they 'downgraded' it thus making it more accessible. Since I own a low-end machine myself, I am hoping to try the game at least on lowest possible settings whilst still retaining acceptable frame rate. Beside the game still look pretty in it current state maxed out.
Great game such as this doesn't deserved to only satisfy the benchmarkers, it doesn't have to set a new benchmark in PC gaming, in fact it should be enjoyed by every gamers including those peasants.
1440p, Ultra Details, HBAO+, Hairworks, Chromatic Aberration, Motion Blur and Sharpening disabled. And there IS SSAO on the grass. Look for the comparison if you can't tell by yourself.
wat im trying to say is, it is downgraded and so what? when a game first anounce for 2 years roadmap ofcos they'll put in the best effort into visual, wat PR bs u bs about?

Yup. At the very least, CDPR's support post-launch for their games has been pretty much unrivaled and I hope that continues. Who ever said the game looks bad or terrible now? The discussion here is that it was downgraded and doesn't look as good as it once was. CDPR being a great PC developer all these years has also gone to the PR bs route, denying and giving excuses when asked about it.
If you don't care, that's fine. But there are people who care. Both sides of the coin.
im ok if its downgraded. problem is they didnt come clean early and still maintain that high end system requirement forcing me to purchase a thousand ringgit plus of hardware upgrade just for it.
gonna try playing it wif my current rig...if it runs.... #$^$&$%$^&$...
then i'll learnt a lesson - there's no honest developer out there and will never, ever pre-order any PC game till it's released for a week...wif reviews plus gameplay video for me to scrutinize before dumping my hard-earned cash into it...
inb4 - shouldnt that something everyone should be doing it? and i blame myself for being greedy on the preorder bonus and got into the hype...

its look great but not as great as the 2013 gameplay video shown by SSJBen. it feels like its lacking the atmosphere..the 2013 gameplay feels realistic, feels like its a CGI scene but its not....
the current one looks...plasticky...oversharpen. its looks like something even Skyrim wif mod can achieve....bahhh...whatever.
let's just hope the 'unicorn' will compensate for it...

“We never switched the textures. On pc, you now have the option to activate “Ultra” quality textures with the full resolution. However, the difference that many people see with new and old footage was a strong sharpening filter in 2013 that looks awesome on screenshots and in short videos, but strains the eyes after a short while if there is a lot of movement (leaves and grass swaying in the wind as an example). That’s why it was decided to tone that effect down. However, people who really want to have it can of course use the Redkit to change the environment settings. It’s just a matter of taste. ; )”
Sharpening filter?? Really? I'm not an expert technical artist but I'm clearly certain that it isn't just a filter that was toned down.
Okay, 2 years ago when it was revealed, it was obvious the video was a vertical slice. How about late last year's video then?
This wasn't a vertical slice. This was the second official gameplay walkthrough where CDPR said the world was already done and they were just polishing up the bugs, adding as much content (quests) as possible, and continuing to balance the gameplay.
Downgrade is downgrade, yet they still want to deny. That's PR bs. The game still looks great sure, no one is saying it isn't. I'm sure the story is still just as good and confusing, I know that since I follow the books. And yes I'm primarily playing the game for the story, but I will not keep quiet when a dev cannot come clean and just admit what they couldn't achieve.

Look at the bright side, at least you can ultra everything for 2 years to come.

Does anyone here bought and preload the game in GOG client? Can tell me where they preload and install the witcher 3 game folder at. I bought mine but haven't receive my cdkeys so i went to download the preload game data first so once the game is activated I can just copy and replace the whole folder to the official location.

The GOG version is DRM-free. Once you purchased the game from GOG.com or redeemed your copy from GOG site you can already download the game files from your GOG account or the optional GOG Galaxy program client. After completely downloading all the installer files you just run the installer executable and follow the instructions, it will start pre-loading the files to your PC just like any regular GOG installer. Afterwards the the game should be listed on your program.
Once the game is released, you just need to download a small remainder of the game data from your GOG account or GOG Galaxy client in order to run the full game.

I bought the game from another portal and they have yet to release the cdkey to me thus i can't preload the game yet. But I have found an alternative portal to download the preload data files. Now just wondering where should i locate these files to.
All versions get the 16 free DLC packs, no matter where you buy it from. GOG, Steam, PSN, Xbox Live, anywhere.
At least this was what CDPR said. Currently hairworks performance is subpar. The upcoming WHQL Nvidia driver will improve this. Don't worry, the game is quite mod'able.
may i know what 16 free DLC packs is this? i dun see it listed or explained in the GOG.com...all i see is the free music, comics, wallpaper, etc.
for the mod part, guess i'll just have to wait and see...
