My suggestion, if you could forgive him, proceed with the trade. Start patching up. If you find that you could not trust him but willing to show you're not a vengeful spirit, then go through a middleman, eg a moderator.

Refusing the trade would be what your emotions urge you to do, but that probably would be continuing the bad vibes around. Since he's willing to extend a hand, do consider taking it.
