Less than 2 months after taking over the car, this morning I have my first incident. Coincidentally, this is the same weeke I send my car for the 1000 km service.

The problem was the sliding door is not able to close. Even manually trying to push the door failed and due to the mechanical arm, it will not allow me to force close as well.

I tried to call Nissan Service Centre and they were unable to send a technician on the spot. As I have my kids with me, I had to ask my family member to fetch them back while I drove the car slowly back with the door wide open. Later the Nissan Service centre called and said can only arrange technician to come only on Tuesday, which I am not happy about.

Temporarily, I have to cover to open door with a large cloth so nothing goes in.

Sadly, I realize the poor thought process when designing the car door and the poor after service by Nissan.

Happy that my door issue is temporarily rectified. Nissan Glenmarie came over after a few follow up calls with the Nissan Call Centre.

The problem was the locking mechanism. According to the mechanic this is their first encounter he has seen before. With the lock removed the door is able to move manually or with the motor. However, when the door is wide open it will not lock into place but can be shut. At least that will allow me to drive the car to the nearest service centre for replacement.

If this does happen, one method is to keep a 10mm spanar in case this happen in emergency cases.

1) First remove the plastic side step by hand (no tools required).
2) Then use spanar to remove all the bolts.
3) You can then see the enclosed black locking mechanism (pointed by the mechanic finger). However, instead remove the black steel bar, you can see in one of the pictures.

Also included an animated GIF in the last photo.

Hope that helps other car members.

Thanks for sharing.

After 2 months of driving and testing both ECO and non ECO mode as well as mix of city and highway drive and only highway drive (long distance), I'm sad to report the fuel consumption is nothing to be desired about for a vehicle that supposed comes with a HYBRID tag (yah, I know ours isn't really true hybrid). Mix city and highway I am consistently getting around 7.4 km per litre while highway only I can achieve 9.4 km per litre regardless ECO or non ECO.

Not sure how the ministry allocate tax exemption to Tan Chong for CKD + Hybrid but lucky for us we can at least enjoy this saving for a rather big car. But for new buyers don't expect to see better fuel consumption. Even my previous Perodua Alza can clock better mileage.

the car can hardly move, yet they still throw in eco mode to make things worse.

best fc 7.9km/l

Yah. MIDA and their much touted Energy Efficient Vehicle scheme is a scam. Don't get me wrong, if Serena didn't get the EEV exemption, Serena will cost RM180K and we won't be entitled to the car.

Serena is in the EEV program? it's only because it's CKD hybrid tax exemption right?

btw the reason i got that figure is because my heavy foot. can barely get the car moving.

http://www.automania.my/car-reviews/serena...bang-bucks-now/

Taken from the site above "It is due to this special arrangement that the latest Serena S-Hybrid only has about 15% local content but more importantly, it gets to enjoy the special Efficient Energy Vehicle (EEV) incentive, thereby enjoying an even more attractive price range"

Weird on the heavy foot. Cause since I am driving my family I am more lighter foot and achieving 7.4 km per litre. While you get 7.9...

Hello there guys, I have a few questions:-

1) Is the fuel consumption really different from what is stated. I know 15km/l is not really possible but how far is it from this stated value.

If you read the thread, fuel consumption is definitely not 15km/l. You will be lucky if you get 10k-11km/l if you cruise in the highway at 80km/h.

2) Any common problems with the car? (I am a bit surprised at the auto door incident that happened as stated above).

In my case, it seems a 1 off issue, which I hope does not become a regular problem. Aside from getting the spare part which is not available in Tan Chong warehouse, I feel the experience is further made worse by the Service Centre staff from Glenmarie who does not even bother to follow up and provide you much needed details.

3) After how long do i need to replace the batteries ( Both normal and hybrid batteries). What is the price for it?

If you are referring to the "so called" battery which is suppose to act as the hybrid battery, I am assuming 2 years. I say so cause it just looks like a normal battery, not those you see in real hybrid cars that is totally enclosed. Just looks like the normal acid battery.

4) Are the leather seats worth the upgrade? I mean in this weather and etc.

The advise from Sales Agent, go for fabric. Again if you want leather, go for low spec and upgrade which cost you RM1.9K (compared to published RM2.8K). Maybe you can even negotiate lower. But don't attempt to go out to accessories company that specializes on leather upholstery, although they claim to give Nappa leather, that will probably set you back RM5K or more. Also you probably need to arrange to drop you brand new car of for 1-2 days for fitting, cutting and install.

5) Any serious mechanical issues with the car. Gear box and etc?

So far, not that I have encountered. I suppose a brand new car with proper service interval, should be fine.

6) Is it stable at high speeds. What about wind noise. ( I test drove the car, the electric powered steering is really light; Its nice for city use but what about at high speeds)

If you are going at 140km/h still manageable. I dare not go above 150km/h cause of the narrow and tall body. However, at the speed of 130-140km/h at the highway, when you pass large vehicles like bus or trucks, you can feel the car floating to the opposite side.

7) How did you customize your ride?

No comment, not much can be done since this is family car

8) Where did you guys get your tinting done for this beast, as it has huge windows. ( Where can i get good tints that trap heat and are dark as well.) ( Mix and match)

Just look around. For me, I got mine from CoolWorld, took the RhinePro XD7 security tint for RM1250. When you buy from Sales Agent, let them arrange for you. Easier and less hassle.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers.

What u saw is probably the left over stock from 2013 cbu. Depends if you want to safe additional rm18k you can opt for that. But that means if u sell you will also lose 2 years.

Got a call from Tan Chong today asking to renew insurance. I mention I've change to another insurance agency. The lame excuse they have was Tan Chong insurance offers 100% claim for stolen car. What a pathetic reason to choose their insurance just cause of this reason.

One question, the SA told me to change the hybrid battery would cost around rm800. Why is Serena's hybrid battery cheaper than normal hybrid battery?
*
Cause this is not hybrid car. If u read this thread, u will realize this MPV has a high fuel consumption. Full tank only manage 450km if u r lucky

Nop.. but superb interested to own this  car. The gearbox issue hold back me.
*
I own the 2015 model. If it is any consolation, I haven't face issue with the gearbox yet. My minor issue is the fuel consumption for what was branded as "a hybrid" but in real it is just a gimmick by Tan Chong to get exclusion from the government for for EV cars. But then again, for such a heavy car, what do you expect from a 2.0.

I wish the newer version at least comes with an option for a captain seat or swivel seat on the 2nd row. Still looking for some alternative.

So if you are interested, just get it. There isn't much of a comparison for the price except maybe the Maxus G10 from China
