The problem with DIY is the power will be reduce overtime than you have to shake the bottle to let them power up again.

So DIY is mostly inconsistent but it still works to a certain level.

Pros will always use the proper Co2 tank.

Its not expensive. I using HPA for my paintball. Normally paintball use HPA or Co2.

But I duwan to spend so much coz I already spend alot...
So DIY and see result first.

emily : inconsistent co2 will result in imbalance growth n to a greater extend invite algae to ur tank. so once ur co2 runs out, u have to replace it pronto.
for smaller tank, u might want to use less yeast to start off. u have to be careful coz if you use a large number of yeast culture, u will provide too much gas into your tank causing ur fish or shrimps to go heaven...

i used 1 bottle method. everything (yeast + sugar water) into the one bottle.

that's what i did for my 2ft. when i got my 4ft, i went to 2x the power ( use 2 bottles to power the co2) and then swapping the changes as the yeast dies off.

buy valve..the one with small pipe..u can ctrl it..hahaha..20cent i guess

that one is checkvalve...u need that also..cost 1.50-2.00 each...there is another one called air control valve..look like this...

Today is a sad day.

My gf's puffer named Puffi died.
He was okay this morning but he passed on.

Feel real sad coz we always go look for ghost shrimps or went catching some longkang fish for him to eat.

The little fella was a smart one too. We would often use a small green net to catch the feeder fish or shrimp and he swim into the net to eat them.
Eventually, he gotten used to the routine until everytime he saw us he would follow us around form inside the tank.

So RIP little one. Hope you have a better life in Fish Heaven.
We will always miss you~

dun use ceramic..it needs a lot of pressure to work..i use air stone for DIY...i know the bubble is quite big..or unless use the cigarette filter..someone mention in previous page i guess..

btw if u dun want to use check valve..just put the bottle higher than the aquarium...

just buy two just incase faulty one..

emily: i've been reading awefully a lot, still kicking start my tank...

here is what happen to the 'nitrogen cycle' in the water.
1. fish/living things shit, and pee... waste turn into ammonia.
2. when enough ammonia,  nitrite-forming bacteria will start to form/grow...hence turning the ammonia into Nitrite.
3. when nitrate starts to gathered enough, nitrAte-forming bacteria will start form/grow and covert the nitrIte to nitrAte
4. NitrAte will get more and more and more... NitrAte is pretty much Harmless.... but this is where "water change" comes in, by doing 25-35% water change, the nitrate will be throw out and new water will bring the nitrate down again.

(i hope i write the right thing... correct me if im wrong)

another thing i read... usually, the ceramic rings are put after the filter. since filter usually used to catch 'dirt/shits'... its pointless to put the ring before the filter to gather those shit too, since u will kill the bacteria when u clean the rings, why not put after the filter, let the filter clean up the shit (and u can wash the filters when its blocked with dirt), and left ammonia that pass through, to the rings where the bacteria will form and makes the ammonia/nitrite to harmless nitrate, since the ring wont get caught up with dirt, so u dont have to wash it, hence the bacteria will always be happy staying there.

yes bro... juz simple as that... it depends on the location u put it...

if u put it near the HOB filter output stream, it will diffuse into ur water faster as it is in the flow of the water in ur tank...



from my pic u can see where i put it and in this location, 1 day i fill 2-3 times and the boss told me 1 can can last for at least a month...

the refill cans also selling at RM1x+ only... so, no nid DIY liao... cos DIY hard 2 control the output of CO2 it seems...

that one hell of a price of checkvalve... ....its kinda expensive for me..
