No spray and pray meaning just get it done and hope it will happen smile.gif

The problem with DIY is the power will be reduce overtime than you have to shake the bottle to let them power up again.

So DIY is mostly inconsistent but it still works to a certain level.

owh.. alright.. but my tank is only 25cm LOL. is there a recipe that does not produce so much co2? since we cant control it..
i only have moss & shrimps

btw, say the power reduces over time it's fine wan right?
what if i inject co2 this week then next month i malas to inject, will it harm my plants since it's inconsistent?

yea i know nothing about all these :/

I am not sure.
Pros will always use the proper Co2 tank.

Its not expensive. I using HPA for my paintball. Normally paintball use HPA or Co2.

But I duwan to spend so much coz I already spend alot...
So DIY and see result first.

Ya my HC growing but small small patches. And other plants also growing so should be ok.
Plus they r very green smile.gif
*
yea i realized i wanna buy one cause it looks better, the tiny ADA one for nano tanks.
but i took interest on planted tanks just last month.. so i wanna see the difference tongue.gif
since im experimenting moss growth

qz: thanks for the clarification. is that idiom in english or cantonese or... coz i never heard it before.

emily : inconsistent co2 will result in imbalance growth n to a greater extend invite algae to ur tank. so once ur co2 runs out, u have to replace it pronto.
for smaller tank, u might want to use less yeast to start off. u have to be careful coz if you use a large number of yeast culture, u will provide too much gas into your tank causing ur fish or shrimps to go heaven...

i used 1 bottle method. everything (yeast + sugar water) into the one bottle. smile.gif

that's what i did for my 2ft. when i got my 4ft, i went to 2x the power ( use 2 bottles to power the co2) and then swapping the changes as the yeast dies off. smile.gif
*
owh.. do you have a diagram for 1 bottle method? everything i see online caters for 2 bottles
yea exactly the reason why im trying to find recipe for little amounts of co2 produced.. cant find
+ i dont even know how little is little enough since not many people online are having 25cm tank with diy co2 tutorial sad.gif

dont wanna risk my otto & amano from death.. hahah

dont wanna overdose and kill my otto's & future shrimps

just wanna see difference in growth with & without co2

i read and some said if i want less co2, add sugar, some said reduce yeast..
the valve and check valve, many opinions..

so i just plan to do it like this http://www.my-mac.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=11047

now, im still not sure if i need check valve cause he does not have it.. but having one to open at night makes sense too..

also, since my tank is so tiny, 22x16x15cm & lacking of space, which type of diffuser/reactor should i use? the glass kind of diffuser? or DIY reactor

girls are just bad at these kinda things. LOL

Today is a sad day.

My gf's puffer named Puffi died.
He was okay this morning but he passed on.

Feel real sad coz we always go look for ghost shrimps or went catching some longkang fish for him to eat.

The little fella was a smart one too. We would often use a small green net to catch the feeder fish or shrimp and he swim into the net to eat them.
Eventually, he gotten used to the routine until everytime he saw us he would follow us around form inside the tank.

So RIP little one. Hope you have a better life in Fish Heaven.
We will always miss you~

urm it's dusty at the surface of the water..

QUOTE(ieR @ Feb 27 2013, 02:52 AM)
emily: i've been reading awefully a lot, still kicking start my tank...

here is what happen to the 'nitrogen cycle' in the water.
1. fish/living things shit, and pee... waste turn into ammonia.
2. when enough ammonia,  nitrite-forming bacteria will start to form/grow...hence turning the ammonia into Nitrite.
3. when nitrate starts to gathered enough, nitrAte-forming bacteria will start form/grow and covert the nitrIte to nitrAte
4. NitrAte will get more and more and more... NitrAte is pretty much Harmless.... but this is where "water change" comes in, by doing 25-35% water change, the nitrate will be throw out and new water will bring the nitrate down again. smile.gif

(i hope i write the right thing... correct me if im wrong)

another thing i read... usually, the ceramic rings are put after the filter. since filter usually used to catch 'dirt/shits'... its pointless to put the ring before the filter to gather those shit too, since u will kill the bacteria when u clean the rings, why not put after the filter, let the filter clean up the shit (and u can wash the filters when its blocked with dirt), and left ammonia that pass through, to the rings where the bacteria will form and makes the ammonia/nitrite to harmless nitrate, since the ring wont get caught up with dirt, so u dont have to wash it, hence the bacteria will always be happy staying there.
*
haha.. im wondering why do you tag me here tongue.gif

actually, that makes sense too.. gotta ask others about the rings though..

i remember that for water cycle, science textbook got also.. easier to understand somemore.. hahah!
good that you figured out everything biggrin.gif

yes bro... juz simple as that... it depends on the location u put it...

if u put it near the HOB filter output stream, it will diffuse into ur water faster as it is in the flow of the water in ur tank...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

from my pic u can see where i put it and in this location, 1 day i fill 2-3 times and the boss told me 1 can can last for at least a month...

the refill cans also selling at RM1x+ only... so, no nid DIY liao... cos DIY hard 2 control the output of CO2 it seems...
*

this is interesting.. more or less like a 'replacement' for diy co2 & pressured co2 is it?

so in conclusion, shall i do it like this for my 22x16x15cm moss & shrimp tank?
http://www.my-mac.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=11047

1, 1.5L bottle for the yeast & sugar mixture.

2, is this alright for bubble counter(gas separator) instead of using 500ml bottle?
http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showt...-and-checkvalve

3, i'll be using cigarette filter as my diffuser smile.gif

4, some suction cups to secure the tube to the glass

5, 2 check valves

6, btw, went to shop for check valves.. rm5 each dont know if it's expensive or cheap cause it's plastic
looks something like this user posted image

7, air control valve rm 3.50 for 1. (do i really need this?) looks like this
user posted image

8, am i missing anything?

that one hell of a price of checkvalve... sweat.gif ....its kinda expensive for me..
nice bubble counter..didnt know got diy for that...

u got super glue or silicone to seal it? DIY main problem is leakage...

clear CO2 tubing? got ?
*
yes.. got both silicone(balance from a geo project) & super glue.. but i'll go with super glue instead..
co2 tubing check smile.gif 10ft more than enough IMO

hmm will go to another shop on friday to see their prices then smile.gif
haha cuter than 500ml bottle right? but dont know if it's a good choice..
