hehe.. no problem, cause i read online saying that less yeast = less BPS
btw, you know how people have 2 outlet pipes from the bubble counter/gas 'filter' bottle?
i have 3 instead of 2. the 3rd one being a short pipe with an air control valve at the end of it. when i want co2, i close it.
if i want less co2 for the moment, i open it awhile to let most of the co2 out then close it back.
it only takes afew seconds for the co2 to come out. it's really fast biggrin.gif

EmilyEmily u using what kind of container for the second/filter bottle? I bet it is not easy to poke 3 hole on normal plastic bottle's cap sweat.gif
*
im using our typical mineral water bottle smile.gif

some people use a handheld drill, that'll be difficult.
i just took a spare allen key, heat it with fire and push through the cap. pretty easy when i do it that way compared to a handheld drill.
can basically use anything that will not melt upon heating with the diameter/circumference about the same as your pipe, but a bit smaller.

hello guys,

plants are growing fine but Java moss seems lighter & more 'see through' compared to the dark green ones i saw in an aquarium shop.

anyway, I'm improve the appearance of my mosses

so how much light is too much?

my moss experiment tank only approx
15(h)x15x20 = 4.5litres. = 1.189 US Gal

temp is always within 22-25'c

aquazonic 7w 6700k full spectrum illuminations

co2 approx 1bps

I also assume that i have some staghorn algae..
reason why im avoiding ferts is because I have amano shrimps + ottos (unless there's a shrimp safe fert out there)

Hi miss Emily,
The watt/gallon rule is just a general guideline. for me it is a guideline to check whether i need to supply extra co2 or not. for a lowtech tank without co2 injection the maximum i can go is 2 watt/us gallon. above 2 watt/us gallon i will need co2 injection. the maximum i can go is 5 watt/ us gallon. above that, my plants will not have any benefits from the extra wattage.

But as you can see, its only applicable best for a 2 feet tank and above. like your tank size, if we were to use 1.2 usg x 2 watt/usg = 2.4 watt which is unacceptable. there is a minimum amount of energy required for photosynthesis. for small tanks like yours, 7 watt might be enough. maybe you could go higher as you are providing them co2. and regarding you staghorn issue, it is due to ammonia/ low co2.

FYI, many ferts are safe for  shrimps. actually many death are due to overdosing co2.  smile.gif

Yay! thanks very much..
in that case, I shall just maintain my lights & co2 but buy ferts instead?
any particular brand? or the famous Excel? it's rm 38 the last time I checked

seachem's flourish excel is just a type of liquid carbon.  blush.gif
u'll need macro n micro nutrients. macro-NPK, micro-trace elements
for ferts, kiminha is very pro. just ask him wink.gif
*
owh.. haha okay okay.. thanks!
hopefully with those, my staghorn will be gone.. they look so ugly! haha and none of my otto/amano shrimp/sae will eat em.

QUOTE(arrow @ Mar 23 2013, 09:10 AM)
Excel is liquid carbon, if you have co2 no need that, shrimps safe fert try borneowild lush for yiur moss.

okay,,thank you smile.gif time to survey around biggrin.gif

QUOTE(kiminha @ Mar 23 2013, 10:18 AM)
You are most welcome ms Emily. Thank you mr jiejian for the kind words.  smile.gif  it is true as he said, you will need the macro and micro nutrients. you can buy the BW ferts as Mr arrow suggested. or you can also use Seachem ferts or even ADA ferts.
BW fert = try BW Lush
ADA = try Brghty shade/lights
Seachem = Flourish comprehensive

or you can also try dry ferts. its all up to your preference and budget.

hmm okay.. since now i understand that only overdosing kills, i'll consider looking around to see which is more suitable for me biggrin.gif

thanks thanks everyone biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
