the usage for 500ml bottle is to make the alcohol go away from the air bubble rite? then i donno if that small water volume can help in long term.
*
exactly what im thinking.. i takut it bursts.. haha..

silicone is hard to seal without trapping air bubbles

with 500ml your fish make the drunken dance?
*

if that's the case, does it mean that i just omit the syringe idea & use 1L bottle as gas separator & bubble counter?

oh thanks for the tips!!! the soil is some leftover from a friend who got them from LFS, he also have no idea what soil it is...

emily: i did a DIY my co2 two days ago, i use "IV Drip" set cost me rm5 from pharmacy, it has around 1 meter tube, needles, one way valve thing, and a drip control valve.... i used those wet tissue as filter, and yea, they create real tiny bubble too. the drip control valve are able to completely close the airflow if u wanted it to stop. but my tube on the bottle cap burst the silicon out yesterday coz pressure too high~ i need to redo the recipe and use superglue for the bottle cap tubing.

cool.. almost all in 1 haha! whch pharmacy btw?
please post a picture soon biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

im from sarawak >.<||| any pharmacy will have the infusion (IV drip) set, i got mine for rm5. yea, all in one. and a bottle and some superglue(skip silicon, not strong enough) and make the recipe half what the internet say, 1 cup super, 1/2 teaspoon of yeast, and a pinch of baking soda. fill the 1.5litre to 50%... then u test see the bubble ok or not (only after 1 hour only u start see bubble). if u wan more bubble, just mix another 500ml mix, 1 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon yeast.

okay okay i'll go to guardian on friday biggrin.gif

*excited to see pictures* hehe! of the DIY co2 i mean

do u dose any nutrients at all? How long is your setup miss? and how many percent of plant mass?
*
i dont dose anything. have not included any co2 yet as well.
about 3 weeks.
urm.. i dont know how to calculate that. LOL
but it takes up at least 1/4 of my tank. i consider it as over crowded.

Oic.. Ok my guessed is because of low or no nutrients that leads to to your algae issue. just my opinion though.
*
i think it's because of too much nutrients.. hahah.. amano shimps poo alot. gonna remove em later.

emily, my opinion, which i have the same problem when i just transfer the plant into a tank with new water. maybe its plant "skinning" due to changes of water/new environment, after a while, (with heavy flow of water from filter) eventually it will be clean.

almost 1 week ady sad.gif

If due to new environment then its ok. but if its algae then its due to low nutrient since ur tank does not has any soil at all.
*
hmm.. odd.. online kept saying too much nutrients.. lol

LOL.. contradiction. but let us find out. u do not have any soil, no ferts, amano shrimps..  so how could there be extra nutrients..
*
no soil no ferts

got 2 amano shimps that poops alot..
+ 2 ottos + 1 youg SAE + 3 baby guppies that will be removed when it gets biqger

alot poo = more nutrients? possible maybe?

i think still very little if you consider only the poo from all the fauna in your tank. Furthermore it is not a complete poo nutrients. LOL
actually your tank resemble a lowtech tank. you are doing the correct thing by not WC, but your plant mass must be very high. But since your plant mass is about 25%, maybe you can do wc 10-20% weekly. It will leads to little algae but your fauna's health is more important.
By doing a lot of WC, you will introduce a lot of CO2 which will make inconsistent CO2 level that will leads to algae. BTW, since your
tank is just 3 weeks old, maybe the algae was also caused by your filter not yet matured.

if your nutrient is not complete, the plant cannot handle the photosynthesis properly. when this happen, which is when the plant become stunted, they will 'leak' sugar into the water column. this sugar will trigger the algae spores to activate algae grow.

aiya sorry aa terlampau banyak membebel..  tongue.gif
*
owh.... ic.. anyway i dont consider this is membebel..haha
okay yea.. if that's the case i consider my plants to be 40% LOL that also they've not grown out.
alright will do WC more often as i just did today smile.gif
just finished diy co2 hehe.. no leakage. *yay* waiting for co2 bubbles now haha

finally done my diy co2. so far so good been running for almost a week. fishes are fine, plants are growing. but my moss experiment tank is only a 25cm tank. so i used 1/4 teaspoon of yeast. <1bps. which is what i was aiming for.
no leakage, no deaths etc.

emily : congrats on the success. have u tried to measure ur co2 level with an indicator? is it on 24/7?
*
nope. i didnt measure. only BPS. yes 24/7 but sometimes at night, i let out co2 via one of my valves. then close it back. just to reduce co2 at night.
