dual LNB should be enough

When you install multiroom, Astro installer will use back the same existing satellite dish as what you have right now at your house. Yes, thwy will provide second decoder and remote control.

If you thinking of taking the second decoder into another house, make sure the second house has satellite dish installed. Otherwise, you can purchase Astro satellite dish.

is astro actually allows for different location?

For Multiroom, no.
Of course they won't allow customers to do so, because Astro will lose a lot money if customers uses this method.

You can bring the second decoder to other location of course, but it will be in your own risk.
Basically, don't tell Astro that you're bringing the decoder to other location so that they won't be suspicious on you.

Hi guys,

I have two decoders(multiroom) and subscribed Iptv currently at my mom's house. Can I bring one of them to my condo because the 2nd box is not being used and she's planning to terminate the 2nd box? Will it work? If yes please pm me a technician contact urgently. If it will not work, is there any other way to do it?

You can, but only with the Astro decoder receives the channels via satellite, not IPTV. It is possible if your mom house's primary fibre broadband provider is under TM Unifi (not Maxis Fibre or TIME Fibre). Is your mom's area can subscribe to TM Unifi? If can, then most probably it will work if you do it correctly, which hybrid mode will be available, which you can switch between IP Mode (internet protocol) to Satellite mode easily. You can just bring the second decoder from your mom's house to your condo, and then connect the satellite cable to begin.

Or, if your area is under Maxis, which means your area can only subscribe to Maxis Fibre but cannot subscribe to Unifi, then you can give up hope already because hybrid mode will not be available.

But this can be a little tricky because you are staying in a condo, may I know:

1) is your condo allow you to use own satellite dish or using centralized dish? If using centralized dish, is your condo able to supports Astro HD channels?
2) Currently do you have Astro installed? Is it B.yond HD or PVR decoder?

This one is very easy and you can do it yourself and you don't need a technician to do it. Basically this is just Plug 'N Play, and you may need to configure some settings (which you can do it yourself too), which is you'll need to switch your Astro decoder's operation mode from IP Mode (internet protocol) to Satellite mode so that the decoder will receive the channels by using your satellite dish (or your condo's centralized dish) instead of IPTV mode. It is easy, just press the Yellow button on your remote like this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe0nKlG_L2o

If the 24 months contract has over for the 2nd decoder, you may terminate it if you want to. Otherwise, they will imposed you expensive penalty fees if you terminate within contract.

What do you mean Maxis Fibre cannot support hybrid mode? My mom's house is using Maxis IPTV and on Hybrid mode. Was thinking to bring the second decoder to my condo too. I currently on Maxis Fibre on my condo right now and the condo has a centralized dish. Tried to plug and play but it doesn't work.

Oh since you said your decoder have hybrid mode, then got chance....

You might need to change the Satellite Settings.

Home>Settings>Installation settings>(Enter PIN, default PIN is 0000)>Satellite Settings

Can your condo unit connect either 1 or 2 satellite ports?

If two ports, have you connected both cables to your Astro decoder? If yes, make sure the Input Source as "LNB" (not SatCR) then press ok, then ok again. Check if got signal for both Tuner 1 and Tuner 2. If got, press ok to finish the setup process.

-------

If one port only, try change Input Source to "DCSS" then press ok, then ok again. Check if u got signal for either Tuner 1 or Tuner 2, then press ok to finish setup. Then check out HD channels to see if you can watch it such as AXN HD ch721.

If Tuner 1 shows signal, but you can't watch any channels, try remove the cable from SAT 1 then connect it to SAT 2, then check again.

If still no signal, then you need to buy RG6 cable signal splitter to split your 1 satellite cable into 2 for you to connect 2 cables to your PVR decoder to SAT 1 and SAT 2 ports respectively. That splitter isn't expensive, you can get it maybe less than RM20 at hardware shops. This method is not officially accepted but this is the only way to receive it. If you use this method, your Input Source setting must be LNB, not SatCR or DCSS.

Don't give up setting up this. Since hybrid mode is available, you will able to watch it on your condo. You just need to change some settings. Depends on what kind of centralised system used in your condo because it varies with different condo, so some can just plug n play, some need to change satellite settings first.

What I have done so far is connected to either one of the satellite port and managed to get the signal for the port. When trying to view the channel, this small yellow icon appeared on the screen corner. So I assuming it related to a signal problem where both satellite port is needed to receive the signal.

I'm not sure whether the condo is using 1 or 2 satellite ports, will try as suggested and revert back the results.

Does the IPTV service need to be set up for me to use them in the condo? Because when I checked my Maxis router, the IPTV service is down as it was not been set up, since I only subscribed to Internet service. Please advise.

As what you describe, yes the small icon appears to be a satellite dish symbol at top left corner means it wants you to check your satellite connection.

You said you're able to get signal when you connect either one of the port. May I know what is the Input Source setting? Is it "LNB", "SatCR" or "DCSS"?

To make sure you set the settings right, try contact your condo management office whether can support PVR or not, and whether to use LNB or DCSS as Input Source.

In your case, IPTV function can be only work at your mum house because the Maxis router is logged in to the internet account, which your Astro decoder rely on the internet account to authenticate and receive the channels. It is assumed that one Internet account is tied into the Astro account, other Internet account cannot open that Astro account, not to mention in different location. That's why I say, if you want to bring the decoder to other location, only satellite mode is possible.

You said your Maxis router. Is it at your mum house or your condo, which also subscribe to Maxis Fibre? If you subscribe to standalone Maxis Fibre account, it doesn't means you can access to Astro IPTV services. Because "Maxis Fibre" and "Astro IPTV with Maxis Fibre" is two different things.

The input source was LNB.

My condo is using a standalone Maxis while my mom is using Maxis IPTV.

Will confirm with the management about the PVR and input settings tomorrow.
