You ask for a lot for your budget laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

You want to boot Mac OSX, you need to know how to get over the "white list" by Apple.
Sure fire way to be able to boot all the OSes listed is to get a Mac:
15"
MacBookPro 15", i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1440x900)@RM5499[2.56kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

Don't bother about free gifts lah smile.gif Cheap stuff, poor quality ...
Warranty, all the brands allow you to extend warranty. You just have to pay more.
Scratch? Get protective film.
Cool design? Only you could determine that smile.gif
loud and nice speakers? All laptop speakers suck laugh.gif
Wifi chipset? Some Dell models let you customise wifi card. Other brands in Malaysia? Take it or leave it. Check on the display model to see it has the chipset you like.

I am just going to list few 14" with GT640M GPU (please note this is a lot less powerful than GT640 in desktop) that is close to your budget:

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8
Lenovo
Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W7HB, colors: grey/red/blue

1. Preferred Brand: Any recommended brand (was looking for Y580 in Perak and the seller told me its EOL-ed @.@)
2. Budget: RM3K

3. Usage: hardcore gaming

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: none

The reseller you asked could be BSing you tongue.gif
Y580 is not EOL, Y480 is. The cheapest RM2999 RSP spec Y580 is getting less stocks in the market but Lenovo Malaysia is still selling it. The RM3499 RSP spec still has stocks.
Maybe you should ask other shops smile.gif
If really can't find Y580 in Perak, go for Y400 then thumbup.gif

gc is optional
*
The recommended models satisfy your usage smile.gif
With your budget, not many choice for 3rd gen (ivy bridge) i3 tongue.gif Most are 2nd gen (sandy bridge).

Closest:
Acer
E1-471-32322G50L, i3-2328M + Intel HD3000@RM1299, 2GB, 500GB, Linux

Asus
X44H-VX280, i3-2350M + Intel HD3000@RM1399[2.44kg], 2GB, 500GB, FreeDOS; 1 year warranty

Dell
Inspiron 14, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1399[2.1kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Fujitsu
LH531-MYE0100348, i3-2350M + Intel HD 3000@RM1299, color: red, freeDOS

HP
1000-1201TX, i3-2328M + Intel HD3000@RM1299, 2GB, 500GB, freeDOS, no USB3.0, AMD HD7450M@RM1499

Lenovo
G480, i3-2328M + Intel HD3000@RM1299, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS

The Dell is the best deal since it's ivy bridge i3 and come with W8.

Hi guys! My sis has started A lvls, and may need a laptop in a month or so.

Firstly, she said that she definitely wants win8. I'm also wondering whether is win8 stable currently? Everything good?

I'd say min i5 if its possible. She wants it fast and with Graphics card (nVidia preferably).

After some asking around, not recommended to get a HP or Dell. Acer - try not to.
Appreciate any help and recommendations. Thanks!

Budget? Screen size?
Does your sis play games? That's what (Nvidia) GPU is for.

Hey LENOVO Z480 VS DELL INSPIRON 14R SE I5 WIN8 750GB 5400RPM

does lenovo/dell sucks like netbook 1m or acer?
does lenovo/dell has good reputation
does lenovo/dell brand has good quality?

which should i get? pm me cause rarely here, much better pm...but comment here also can...ASAP..need minimum 2gb graphic card

1. "sucks" - in what way? smile.gif The 2 models has decent build quality smile.gif Btw, if you are willing to pay, Acer don't suck smile.gif
2. Reputation - Each brand has "good" reputation somewhere somehow laugh.gif Dell & Lenovo has good warranty support.
3. "quality" - see 1.

You don't need 2GB VRAM GPU for your budget. It's a marketing gimmick. The GPU within your budget range don't have sufficient power to generate data to use the 2G VRAM.

Dell has better standard warranty (on site). Lenovo has longer warranty period (2 year).
Lenovo Z is more colourful.

Budget roughly RM2k-2.8k. She usually don't, but she may with the good graphics. She watches a lot of shows so good graphics would be good too I guess. Thanks. Screen size 14".
*
Your sis don't need Nvidia GPU to watch show smile.gif Intel IGPU can handle all the videos out there biggrin.gif
She need Nvidia GPU if she play some graphic intensive game. If she is into FB game, flash game, ... she don't need Nvidia GPU.
Fast - looking at your sis usage, I suspect her "fast" is really not concerning CPU / GPU, she really need a SSD smile.gif
No HP, Dell, Acer. 14".

Asus
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Lenovo
S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Price is RSP, negotiable. Use remaining budget to upgrade RAM (4G stick ~ RM80), upgrade HDD to SSD (128G ~ RM250+, 256G ~ RM550+).
Then she will have a light, "fast", laptop.

why does many people said if have more money....go extend dell warranty (dell inspiron 14r se i5 win8) and dont buy the lenovo z480...why?

as i think the different is dell 750gb 5400rpm, lenovo 1tb 5400rpm...can tell me the difference and why? sorry because ask too many question
*
Dell Malaysia has the best warranty support service for laptop in Malaysia. Supposed you spend extra RM200++ to extend the warranty to 3 years, what you will get is: Any time your Dell laptop has a hardware problem, you just need to call Dell, their operator will diagnose the problem, and if needed, a technician will be sent to your home to fix the laptop for your on the spot on the next business day. You never need to personally send your laptop to a service centre.

The Lenovo Z480 is a good laptop as well. Btw, just in case you don't know, actually Lenovo Malaysia also offer on site warranty support service, but you have to specifically ask for it to upgrade since it don't come standard.

Don't worry too much about HDD capacity. Price between 750G and 1TB HDD is so minor now, you can easily get the re-seller to give you a free upgrade laugh.gif

My boss ask me to reccommend a laptop for graphic designer's use. Need recommendation:

1. Preferred Brand: No
2. Budget: 3k
3. Usage: Adobe after effects/ Photoshop
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15" or above
5. Hardisk: prefer 1TB

Is it better to have i7 with mid-end graphic card or i5 with killer graphic card?
Is it necessary to install 16GB RAM?

Thanks.
*
If you must choose, go with i7 quad core + mid-end GPU.
But why not have the best of both world? smile.gif

Lenovo
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty (Stock limited)
Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3499[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty

Price is RSP, negotiable.
FHD screen give you the work space. HDD can be upgraded with the reseller if required (500G to 1 TB < RM100).
8G RAM should be sufficient, but it also depends on how big the files, how extensive the effects the user is dealing with (2 x 8G sticks ~ RM400+, just make sure the OS installed can utilise it).
Make sure the user has good external cooling solution, since Y580 could run a bit warm sweat.gif

thanks [PF] T.J. and nexus2238,

I dont know that the laptop price has drop so much that RM3k can get i7 with decent GPU.

As stated by [PF] TJ, For Photoshop, RAM > CPU > GPU in terms of performance gain

How about Adobe after effects, which factor more important? I saw the designer render his After Effects file - 3 minutes video takes 1 hour using his old Acer i5 + nvidia 5xx card.
*
Was that a Acer laptop?

For After Effect, CPU+RAM > GPU. That's why i7 quad core is good thumbup.gif If the Acer is using i5-2xxxM, then you are looking at ~ 40-50% more CPU power. After Effect can make use of every core.

As I mentioned, since the user is going to use it for extensive rendering, please get GOOD external cooling solution for Y580.

Is mobility absolutely important for the user? If not, you could get a more powerful desktop to do all the rendering (i7 desktop blow i7 laptop away), and can get a cheaper laptop to do presentation ....

Y580 is 15" (not 14"). Heavy. Total overkill for light gaming laugh.gif
Worth to buy? If you are looking for the best gaming laptop money can buy in Malaysia under RM3k, YES YES YES smile.gif

Y580 don't have the wifi issue as in U series (which allegedly has been solved btw, but I can't verify tongue.gif ).
Nevertheless, the Y580 in Malaysia is getting the Broadcom wireless chipset, and the wireless performance is not the most ideal sweat.gif
