I'm considering the Dell 14R SE. But when i check the webpage, i see the first 2 same specs but different prices, 2049 vs 2268, why is that so?

Preferred Brand = Asus or Acer
2. Budget - The lowest the better
3. Usage - Work, might be using Autocad Inventor.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15.6" or 14"( Battery Run Time +8 hrs)

Please advise. Thanks

M5-481PTG-53316G52, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M + 20GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2999, 10-point touch, W8

Pretty good. The i5 ULV is slightly slower than normal i5 M, but still ok. Autocad Inventor can utilise the GT640M.
Don't be "misled" by the 8 hour battery performance claimed by brands laugh.gif (you need to read the fine print at the bottom of the link you provided)
Expect 5 hour max under normal usage.

Do you need the touch screen feature? If not, you are paying for something that you don't use. Poking at screen across keyboard is not ergonomically sound smile.gif and the 14" will tend to wobble over time as you repeatedly poke poke smile.gif

Consider this:
Asus
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Compare to the M5, you could buy RAM, swap the HDD with SSD (which improve battery performance among other benefits), buy another battery for spare (M5 battery has higher rated capacity compared to K46CM), with money left in your pocket.

Thank you very much for the help.

Last question, is Asus S56CM better then K46CM. Thank.
*
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD
S56CM-XX090H i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB@RM2499[2.3kg], 2GB, W8; color: black

Diff is RM300. You are paying more for a larger screen (but same resolution, so the image you see is the same) which drain battery faster smile.gif and a small mSATA SSD (factory default set for caching, which you don't need if you decide to go full SSD)
Also, since you stress battery performance, I sense mobility is important to you, and S56 is heavier.

I think you will be better off spending the money on K46CM and upgrades to full SSD smile.gif

The advantage of S56CM is that the keyboard has a full size numpad (which is convenient if you need to punch in lots of number).

Ehm.... blink.gif ,better take dell or asus.does anyone know warranty asus in indonesia?it is also bad?
But which better for autocad,i take intel,or ndivia? nod.gif

Indonesia is pretty big you know smile.gif
First, check here to see if there is Asus SC around the place you are going:
http://id.asus.com/Static_WebPage/garansi_...service_center/
You will notice they are not that spread out.
In fact, according to my Indonesian friend, Acer apparently has the most SC around Indonesia laugh.gif Check it out:
http://www.acer.co.id/ac/en/ID/content/service

Autocad - primary requirement is the CPU, get i7 if you can. If you do 3D modeling, then GPU come into play. If you do heavy 3D modeling, then obviously Nvidia discrete GPU is better than Intel HD 4000.

QUOTE(zero12 @ Jan 21 2013, 03:20 PM)
Hi, i'm trying to help my cousin to find laptop that suitable for him

brand: anything
budget: 2.5k and below
usage : mostly for browsing and assignments, once in a while autocad and lightroom
screen size : 14-13 inch, he said the lighter the better

one more thing that he needs is international warranty since he will
not be around malaysia for the next two years.
sifus help is appreciated  biggrin.gif
*
All brands offer internationl warranty, you just have to pay for it smile.gif
Some brands / models come standard with International warranty (e.g. Asus).
At least tell us where your cousin is going smile.gif Some time it is better to buy at the destination country (cheaper, more choice ... ) rather than trying to look for laptops with International warranty in Malaysia.
Also, even if a model has international warranty, if the model / spec is not sold in the country where your cousin is going (even if the brand is there), your cousin may have to wait for spare parts for warranty claim.

Btw, is your cousin an engineering student? If yes, then he better bite the bullet and get some beefy i7 laptop smile.gif

Yup, for Australia this is true sweat.gif
Asus warranty service in Australis is quite OK. Dell also has nice setup in Australia.
1 thing though, Aussie like their laptop big, so you usually find lots of 15" there laugh.gif (or 13" for mobility, 14" is not the main thing there unlike in Malaysia)

Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Upgrade RAM, swap HDD with SSD with remaining budget.

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2799[2.38kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Inspiron 14z, i5-3317U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2449[1.87kg], 4GB, W8 *no VGA port, OD

Upgrade warranty to 3 year. Then when your cousin touch down in Australia, he could do a "transfer" to get his onsite service in Australia (if he want). Online chat with Dell sale agents to find out more details.
http://www.dell.com/support/retail/my/en/m...en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Price is RSP, negotiable (even through Dell Online).

Lenovo Malaysia don't give OS for this. You need to get the OS yourself (work something out with the re-seller or ... ).
Yes, there is International warranty. Again, please check if there is any SC around your area in Indonesia:

Yes you may still claim warranty in Indonesia, but Lenovo Indonesia may not has all the necessary spare parts and you may have to wait for spare parts if you claim warranty.

Closest I would think would be Z570/575, which were the models replaced by Z580. But I find it strange that you said none of the Zx80 was launched in Indonesia yet, since they has been in Malaysia for > 6 mths (iirc) hmm.gif and they are the 3rd gen i core (ivy bridge) specs for Z series (Zx70 were sandy bridge).

Hello, I came here the last time looking for a high end gaming laptop, but this was a few months back;almost half a year already.
I was gonna purchase the Asus G75vw or Msi gt70
But everywhere I search on the net for best gaming laptop its always m17x,even though everyone knows alien ware is overpriced, so here I am back here seeking wisdom from you guys.!
My budget is around 8-10k yes high budget as I've been saving for so long.
Preferred brand: any as long as it's spec is good
Usage: heavy gaming and University work
And no preferred sizes. Also if you guys could tell me what is the best and most expensive laptop atm? Just wondering really, Internet not very helpful. Thanks again!
*
G75VW with GTX670M is not considered as top end smile.gif GT70 with GTX680M is only single card, easily owned by those with 680M SLI or 7970M Crossfire rig.

Best gaming laptop is M17x? Bling, bling maybe. Best bang for buck, definitely not. Most powerful, not even among Alienware, you need to look at M18x.

Most powerful? Those with GTX680M SLI. Most expensive? Who care laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

For best bang for buck for your saving, look no further:
Illegear: www.illegear.com
Illegear RS-15, i5-3210M + AMD HD7970M + (1920x1080)@RM5299, 8GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3940XM][GPU options: GTX680M]
Illegear RS-17, i5-3210M + AMD HD7970M + (1920x1080)@RM5599, 8GB, 500(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3940XM][GPU options: GTX680M]
Illegear RX-17

With your budget, you could get RX-17 with 7970M Crossfire thumbup.gif Or if you prefer single card RS-17 with GTX680M and max up other specs thumbup.gif

3. Windows 8, word-editing
4. smaller, lighter is better, but not really emphasize, thicker but worthy is okay

Not many choice for tablet laptop hybrid tongue.gif
With your budget, closest:

Acer

Dell

Samsung
ATIV Smart, Z2760 + Intel GMA + (1366x768; touch) + 64GB SSD@RM2499[774g w/o keyboard], 2GB, stylus, W8; color: mystic blue

According to TJ sifu tongue.gif , the best tablet laptop hybrid in Malaysia now:
Samsung

Well bro, what if I narrow it is to only between these three? Three of it with the best specs available which one? Because these 3 are the easiest to get for me atm. But thanks for your suggestion though! I went to the site before, it's like sager isn't it?
*
RS-15 is 15". RS-17 & RX-17 are 17".
RS-15 & RS-17 both could be customised to have i7 CPU & GTX680M single GPU, pretty much the max you can go with single GPU configuration. So it is just a matter of preference for screen size and relative portability smile.gif
RX-17 on the other hand could fit in 2 x 7970M or GTX680M running at AMD Crossfire / Nvidia SLI mode and give you a boost for games that support Crossfire / SLI.

Warranty support from Illegear is good (and you can always complain to Prince J here in LYN if you are not happy tongue.gif ).

Yes, it's like Sager. Illegear is also based on Clevo barebone. But the price is a lot more palatable rclxms.gif

Check out the link I gave you earlier. Prince J has posted some nice real life (non-photoshoped) pictures of the models.

With your budget, you could pretty much max out on RAM (2x8G, 16G should be plenty enough, but they do support 4x8G), SSD (256G Crucial M4), HDD (1TB) (RS-17 & RX-17 could fit in 2 SSD/HDD. Install OS / apps / frequently access data on the SSD, leave data / picture / video on the HDD). Get the matte screen with high colour gamut. Get i7-3630QM (should be enough). Good thermal paste. Bluray ODD. Killer wireless. 3 year warranty.
You are pretty much set thumbup.gif

thank you all for the help. Will think it over and decide today whether to go for Y400 or Y580 (Y500 exceeded my budget sad.gif ). Problem is those reviews I found on internet are mostly based on unit in other countries with different spec.... anyway, I believe for casual gaming such as dota 2, Y400 should be able to handle it well right?

one last noob question, does plaza low yat seller accept credit cards? or those price quoted are for cash and carry offer only?

thanks a lot guys, your reply really help a lot  notworthy.gif

cheers
*
Y400 is more than capable of handling dota2 at max setting smile.gif
The main difference for you between Y400 & Y580:
Y400 - lower screen resolution (1366x768), more bling, better thermal profile, lighter.
Y580 - higher screen resolution (1920x1080), run warmer, more heavy.

Price we provide you are RSP, negotiable with re-sellers (try to knock a couple of hundred from RSP tongue.gif ).
LYP sellers accept credit card, but normally will put surcharge (~ 2%).

Good luck in your hunting thumbup.gif
