This is tricky sweat.gif Engineer? hmm.gif
Solidwork - need GPU, but seems to prefer professional GPU (like those Quadro, FirePro thingy)
Not sure if those consumer GPU without certified driver will work or not.
And laptop with those professional GPU cost a lot more than RM2k.
Sifus please help notworthy.gif

QUOTE(bendonarticx @ Jan 9 2013, 03:52 PM)
Hi there. Looking for an ultrabook for work that I can easily take around

1. Preferred Brand: anything but Acer and Sony
2. Budget: 4000 (Including original OS and Office)
3. Usage: for office work (able to do photoshopping is a big plus)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:13-14 inch
5. Others: got HDMI (not micro), SSD preferable but > 250GB. Prefer < 1.8kg

Someone recommended the ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH72 13.3" Ultrabook. Any other alternatives?
*
UX31E-DH72. Obsolete model from 2011 smile.gif
Intel HD 4000 can support some light photoshop work. If you want to do extensive work, you need a dedicated GPU.
SSD > 250G is very expensive. 512G ~ RM1.2k++++ Anyway, most laptop don't come with stock SSD greater than 256G. Suggest you get a external HDD to store big and not frequently access files.
MicroHDMI, any reason why not? MicroHDMI cable normally has 1 end with MicroHDMI and the other end with full HDMI to connect to external display.

Asus
UX31A-R4005H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080)@RM3499[1.3kg], 4GB, W8

Dell
XPS13, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3299[1.36kg], 4GB, W8, backlit
XPS13, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 256GB SSD@RM3999[1.36kg], 8GB, W8, backlit
XPS 14, i7-3517U + Nvidia GT630M + 512GB SSD + (1600x900)@RM5549[2.1kg], 8GB, backlit, spill resistant keyboard, W8 (just to give you an indication smile.gif )

HP
Envy SpectreXT 13-2106TU, i7-3517U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399[1.39kg], 4GB, W8,backlit keyboard
Envy (Spectre) 14-3111TU, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1600x900 Radiance) + 128GB SSD@RM3999[1.8kg], 4GB

Price is RSP, negotiable. Price include OS, not MS Office (Office Home & Office ~ RM300+).
If it is for "office" where minimum downtime is important, go for Dell with 3 year next business day on site warranty support service.

Good evening  notworthy.gif

Looking to buy a new laptop

1. Any
2. Budget: Around RM2500 (lesser is better)
3. Usage: gaming(msotly for GW2 tongue.gif)/work
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Any, doesn't matter
*

The Y480 is best bang for your buck if you can find it smile.gif
Otherwise, these:

Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo
Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W7HB, colors: grey/red/blue
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD

GW2 is quite GPU demanding. At 1366x768 (HD) resolution, you have to turn down the details to make it playable with GT640M.

guys, just a last question before I order my laptop. Do you think I should get a 14/15inch laptop or a 17inch laptop? I am currently studying in Uplands taking IB.. So.. I am not sure which one should I go for.. Usually game + school work + taking down notes. tongue.gif

Pretty late in the game changing game plan laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Unless you are seriously strong, 17" will break your back sooner or later, carrying it to and fro school daily biggrin.gif
M17 and RS17 weight more than 4kg sweat.gif
Also, unless you can plug into electric supply at school, all these gaming laptops won't give you long battery performance. But at least 14/15" last slightly longer than 17" laugh.gif

Practically all Ivy bridge CPU support Intel VT.
What you need is Intel Chipset that support Intel v-Pro (sifus please correct me if I am wrong tongue.gif), that mean you need to find laptop with QM77/67 chipset (Most consumer laptop has HM77/6 chipset).

QM77/67 is normally (but not necessary always, some come pre-configure with HM77) found in business laptop like Dell Latitude/Precision, HP Elitebook, Lenovo Thinkpad.

Dell
Latitude E5430, i5-3320M + Intel HD4000@RM3200, 4GB, 320GB(5400rpm), W7P (32-bit)/W8 Pro, 3 years pro support; [CPU Options: i5-3320M - i7-3520M], HD+ screen upgradable
Latitude E6430, i5-3320M + Intel HD4000@RM4300, backlit keyboard, 3 Years, W7P (32-bit); [CPU options: i5-3320M-i7-3720QM][GPU option: Nvidia NVS 5200M], HD+ screen upgradable
Latitude E6430u, i5-3427U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM4500, 4GB, W8Pro, 3 years Pro support; [CPU options: i5-3427U - i7-3667U] (this is ultrabook)

Spec configurable. Price negotiable, but most likely will exceed your budget once you put in everything you want.

Just check HP Envy4, there are 'Virtualization Technology' in bios.

One more question, izzit 500G+32SSD will have problem while i need to format and reinstall windows?
*
Good to hear. That mean HM77 also support VT rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

What do mean by problem?
You install OS in the HDD (factory default setting), not the mSATA SSD (for caching, factory default setting. You can find this in BIOS).
If you change the BIOS setting, you can install OS in the mSATA SSD (but lost the caching capability). The SSD is so small ....

Acer
M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899[1.85kg], 6GB, W7HP (upgrade RAM aftermarket)

4G RAM stick ~ RM80.
You can always upgrade HDD to SSD yourself. 128G ~ RM250++.
