Thanks for the recommendations. Can I get another recommendation for another purpose?

1. Preferred Brand: any brand, any type of laptop
2. Budget: 4k
3. Usage: Office work and large amounts of data
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13
5. Others: Since it's for large amounts of data, I guess a minimum 1 TB is required. Also, VGA + HDMI + 3 USBs + SD Card

A business notebook seemed suitable for the task, though 1TB is very rare in these notebooks laugh.gif
I guess the closest would be the Toshiba R930 brows.gif

Pretty late in the game changing game plan  laugh.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif
Unless you are seriously strong, 17" will break your back sooner or later, carrying it to and fro school daily biggrin.gif
M17 and RS17 weight more than 4kg sweat.gif
Also, unless you can plug into electric supply at school, all these gaming laptops won't give you long battery performance. But at least 14/15" last slightly longer than 17" laugh.gif

I thought they weigh around 4kg with battery? D:
ya.. they are acutally two plugs in my class. smile.gif

The specs are quite nice. How is it when compared to the Asus S400CA? It's lighter and has a larger memory + optical drive. Though I don't see any VGA.

How are Toshiba laptops anyway?

The S400Ca is not exactly a business notebook (business notebooks are built with reliability in mind, hence the higher price) haha laugh.gif And its 14" in size, with touchscreen~
I'm not too sure but the R930 reviews on the internet showed that there is a VGA port, like in its predecessor R830 hmm.gif

Toshiba notebooks are generally reliable, particularly so for business ones.. The POrtege series come with 3 years international warranty some more~

There 14" Toshiba Tecra R940 that you can consider as well if you prefer a 14" notebook...

What other laptops are comparable to the R930? lightweight, HDMI, VGA. Doesn't have to have a large memory space though. anything above 250gb should be ok

Don't think so... the R930 is the lightest of its class (ultra light weight with a normal processor)..
As mentioned in the earlier post, if you are looking for a 14" model, then can consider the Tecra R940 (but its a lot heavier) tongue.gif

Hi Sifus,

Any Asus(2 years warranty) laptop that is close to the price/specs of Dell Inspiron 15 (Approximately 1.8k with 3 years warranty)?

Dell: Inspiron 15-3521, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1499[2.25kg], Win8SL, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm)

http://www.dell.com/my/p/inspiron-15-3521/...nspiron-15-3521

Looking only at 15.6" laptop, mainly used for MS Office for office tasks

Yes, it can run Photoshop nod.gif
Photoshop depends more on RAM and CPU. A dedicated GPU is more or less an extra only nod.gif
Btw, you did not mention you are using it for photoshop also tongue.gif

Unfortunately no sad.gif
Asus notebooks usually come with 2 years international warranty. You'll have to pay extra to extend the warranty to 3 years nod.gif
Closest would be:
15.6"

Not many 14" come with stock SSD.

Acer
M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899[1.85kg], 6GB, W7HP (upgrade RAM aftermarket)

HP
Envy (Spectre) 14-3111TU, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1600x900 Radiance) + 128GB SSD@RM3999[1.8kg], 4GB (upgrade RAM aftermarket)

4G RAM stick ~ RM80.
You can always upgrade HDD to SSD yourself. 128G ~ RM250++.
