CPU - 3210M(obile) processor, 3317U(ltra Low Voltage) processor.
GPU - HD7670M (older), HD8730M (newer)
HDD size - 500G, 750GB.

The 1st is the older Inspiron 15R, slightly more bulky and heavier. The 2nd and 3rd are the latest Inspiron 15R, more slim and lighter.

If you don't care much about weight and just want the most power for your buck, pick this:
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + AMD HD7730M@RM2199, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional, W7HP/W8

so anyone can suggest me a new laptop

possibly 14" or 15" screen size

within RM2k

able to play games like sleeping dogs and COD at moderate graphics without lag

and is it possible to trade in my current laptop? not sure if got anybody want it... what if possible about what price i can trade in.... thankyou alot

or what can i do to my laptop now in order to enchance the performance .... i am noob in pc but i think it is GPU that makes me lag when playing these games ....
*
GT520M is weak to play Sleeping Dogs and COD:BO tongue.gif Even at the lowest setting, it will struggle.
It's unlikely you will be able to upgrade GPU for your laptop.
Trade in - it's up to you to negotiate with the re-sellers smile.gif

With RM2k, you can get these which will handle both games relatively well in medium setting:
Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo
Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W8, colors: grey/red/blue

Price is RSP, negotiable.

Preferred Brand : Any mainstream brand should do
Budget : Max RM 1.5k
Usage : Adobe Photoshop / Premier medium usage
Preferred laptop/screen size : didn't mind...

If can get a 4gb RAM, consider good already...

FreeDOS mean you need to get OS yourself. RAM is cheap now, 4G stick is ~RM80, you can probably get the re-seller to throw it in for free smile.gif

QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jan 31 2013, 01:34 PM)
Hi guys,
I'm looking for a mobile workstation.
1. Preferred Brand : None
2. Budget: 4K to 6.5K
3. Usage: Engineering simulation, games (BF3, ect)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15 to 17inch.

I was originally considering the Asus G75VX but with all the horror stories I'm hearing about the service center, it may be a better idea to get a mobile workstation instead.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dbassnut

With your budget, you can have very good mobile workstation thumbup.gif

Dell
Precison M4700, i7-3720M + Nvidia Quadro K1000M@RM5800, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7P [Screen Upgrade: FHD, FHD IPS RGB] [CPU Upgrade: up to i7-3920XM] [GPU Upgrade: Quadro K2000M] [RAM up to 32GB]
(upgrade screen to FHD at least, upgrade GPU to K2000M, RAM as much as you fancy. Warranty is 3 year standard, iinm. M6700 is out of your budget.)

HP
EliteBook 8570w, i7-3520M + nVidia Quadro K1000M + (1920x1080 DreamColour )+Bluray@RM6199, W7P, 3 Years warranty include battery

This is more like a gaming laptop with consumer GPU. But come with good warranty support (opt for 3 year), and very reasonably price for the specs. If you opt not to have the logo, the greyish charcoal look like a corp laptop laugh.gif

Hi,

Need suggestion as i am noob in notebook.
Budget 2-4k
Usage : traveling presentation mostly using flash and powerpoint
important : light and not heaty and possible longer battery life

thank you sifu

If you are using this for business, you want those with good warranty support.

Dell
XPS13, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3299[1.36kg], 4GB, W8, backlit
XPS13, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 256GB SSD@RM3999[1.36kg], 8GB, W8, backlit
(problem for XPS 13 is no VGA port, you need to bring along adapter)
Latitude E6230, i5-3360M + Intel HD4000@RM4550, 4GB, 320GB(7200rpm), W7P(32-bit)/W8 Pro (64-bit), 3-cell; [CPU options: i3-3360M-i7-3520M]
Latitude E6430u, i5-3427U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM4500, 4GB, W8Pro, 3 years Pro support; [CPU options: i5-3427U - i7-3667U]

Lenovo
ThinkPad X230, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM4059, 4GB, 320GB(7200rpm), 3 years on-site warranty, external USB OD
ThinkPad T430U, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM3799, 4GB, W7P, 3 years on-site warranty

For Latitude / Thinkpad, if you opt for the extra slice battery which attach to the bottom of laptop, you could have 10+ hour battery performance under normal usage.

Latitude and Thinkpad are business class laptop. Very solidly build, suitable for travel. But price is expensive if you only look at the component specs tongue.gif (a lot of the price go to the tough external / internal case for the laptop).

Price is RSP, negotiable.

If your software / file can run in Mac OSX, you can consider:
Apple
MacBookAir 13", i5-3427U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3699[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

Yes, can handle the games you listed.
If your budget is < RM1.5k, that G480 is the brand new laptop with most GPU power (GT635M) you can buy in Malaysia smile.gif
If your budget is ~ RM2k, then you have options on GT640M.

Lenovo customer service? Depend on what type of warranty you are on laugh.gif If you own Thinkpad with its warranty, top notch. If your opt for 3 years on site warranty for Ideapad, good. If your warranty need to send to SC, depends. Those that send to IBM SC has pretty good experience, while others have mixed feedback.

I would be great if it has split screen for multi-tasking purpose, like Mac book)

On any system with Windows: Win key + left arrow, app park to left of screen. Win key + right arrow, app park to left of screen. Click on Taskbar, "Show Windows side by side" will array all open apps side by side across the screen.

Window is a pretty mature OS, you know laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
