Size comparison to Acer Aspire V3-471G (Acer 14 inch laptop)

user posted image

Added on January 4, 2013, 3:55 pmGood thing about this laptop

- Compared to ultrabook (which get rid of many of the ports), I find this illegear R-11 (Clevo W110ER) has all the ports that I need and the area where the ports are located is just nice. You got 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port (for power off mode charging your handphone perhaps), VGA port (to connect to projector to conduct presentation), HDMI port, headphone jack and microphone jack.

- First of all, do not compare this to an ultrabook as ultrabook is meant to sacrifice performance (at least gaming performance) for portability where probably you don't get any fans or vent on the ultrabook. Believe me, you won't be able to find much choices for laptop with this size (11.6 inch). Perfect for bringing it around while able to enjoy some gaming.

- Customizable, that is why I got the matte screen. smile.gif

Bad part (Like I said, I'm quite genuine when I'm giving review)

- Small right shift key (I think I need some time to get used to it XD). Suppose the laptop still have more space to accomodate the keyboard so that the buttons won't need to be shrinked that much. Look at the 12 inch Thinkpad and Alienware M11X, you will know what I mean.

- No backlit keyboard (Well, might be something particular to someone but to me, size of the laptop still comes first)

Something which I personally don't consider it as bad feature
- Plain design. I think for business traveller like me who doesn't want to seek attention, this is a pronton running on ferrari engine.

That's all folks. Hopefully you have an idea how small this laptop is. smile.gif
Personally and overall I'm quite satisfied with the laptop because it offers both portability and gaming capability smile.gif

Thanks for the review man notworthy.gif
The R-11 looks almost as large as the M11x (chassis around 13") hmm.gif

And I like the plain design, especially without the logo~~

I'm so in love with my illegear R-11. Up to my expectation and never disappoint me till now. No problem on 24/7 download, gaming, heavy duty graphic and video rendering. Simply Perfection smile.gif

Hi Bro tongue.gif .
Photos are the same laugh.gif . No point re-posting it. The different is only I already removed all the stickers. So basically just plain old note book. My brother call it portable garbage LOL. I don't care. It beat my previous M11x R3 on so many levels. Surprisingly is not that hot after almost 2 months downloading without turn it off. Glad to bump into you bro. Thanks again and again for recommending me this lethal and deadly weapon notworthy.gif

Could it be a new version of the current W130?

There are 2 current version of the W130 series :
W130EV - 13.3", Dua Core, no GPU, 1.78kg
W130EW - 13.3", Quad Core, no GPU, 1.78kg

W130ER(just like the TS laptop model but 11 inch, W110ER) perhaps? brows.gif

Btw, sorry TS for hijacking.
Nice review man!
Hope you could also include benchmark results and temperature results for more poison. brows.gif

i find it quite nice actually. No problem in typing.

To be honest, compare to 13 and 14 inch, I would rather spare the extra 1 inch for an additional optical bay for 2nd HDD or a 2nd GPU just like the lenovo Y400 or Y500.

So, being compact, I think 11.6 inch does fine and basically I can carry it around without much hassle.

Added on January 6, 2013, 3:50 pm@Amal
Sorry Amal, might not be doing any review on benchmark. I find it quite easy to look for benchmark result and such for illegear R-11 or Clevo W110ER on the internet.
The only thing lacking is the pictures to show size difference. I think laptop size between 14 and 17 inch are kinda common these days. But size 11.6 inch gaming laptop is still very rare and I have too been wondering how small can it be. So, those pictures of mine show you how small this beast can be smile.gif

IMO if a real gamer or enthusiast, should just get PC. If not, a normal gamer like me, gt650m should suffice.

Most of the users picked i7-3630QM, some games nowadays are optimizing quad core advantage like BF3 etc.
The i5-3210M does a great job too in gaming though.

Not really. If that's the case we would not have RS-17/ RX-17 customers.
The unique point of R-11 is the size and weight. How many ultrabooks/ netbooks out there can actually handle games handily?

I guess I better open my wallet then and order one, only problem I can even think of is no backlit keyboard on the smaller model wink.gif

Whats the battery life when doing tiny tasks like office/web etc and then battery life when gaming or watching a film, I think those are the last questions I need to know about wink.gif

I think that's about right.
Anitelu, remember this is not an ultrabook laugh.gif
If you want to improve battery performance, the easiest is to opt for SSD instead of HDD. This will help a lot in all those disc activity intensive apps. If you decide to stay with HDD, 7200 rpm drain more power compared with 5400 rpm HDD.
Anyway, quite an upgrade from your Samsung N130 biggrin.gif

Oh yeah fully aware its not an ultra book, tho atm I do alot of my work on my mac mini desktop that I travelled with me, but its a pain to do that, so want to combine the productivity of using my adobe stuff and be able to have a laptop since my N130 died, and for the price this seems like a very good option. I would love to get a SSD in it, but I just dont think I can afford it at the moment. I guess i could go for the 128 GB SSD option and just get the i5 version, but I know very little bout this new SSD technology...

I remember I read somewhere, some MBP users test 5400 rpm HDD vs SSD. Battery performance was about 4.5hr vs 6 hr.
Don't expect this much from Illegear, but I think 30-45 min is reasonable expectation.

I think a 128G SSD for OS, apps, and video files that you are working on. Then 2TB external HDD should be ample biggrin.gif
Anyway, looking at illegear site, it is charging RM599 extra to replace the 500G HDD to 256G Crucial M4 SSD. That is very reasonable thumbup.gif

The R-11's cooling system is actually quite nice although there is only one air vent servicing both CPU & GPU.

hmmm, last time i wanted to get the illegear rx17...but had a bad experience talking with the online chat which turn down my mood of buying it. The whole websites are quite confusing. When they meant free western digital hdd, it should be free. Not like a free upgrade or wat. I adviced them to change but they replied quite impatient. So end up i lost confidence on their service and did not buy the rx 17.

feel bad for this but i believe most business minded peoples never do a 'buy this free 1' promotion, especially in computer products. they will only allow FREE upgrades. also, illegear's site is not confusing at all.

It is confusing...They lack of HCI which is not a good idea for the website..."business minded peoples" is used as an excuse. It is a bout professional or non- professional thingy. A professional company will state their things clearly to avoid any chances of being complained by customers. And another thing is when the first time i got into tat websites, i look at the spec and the price. i thought it was that spec with that price. They did not put a "Starting from" or a "++" sign but at the bottom is all chosen with the lowest spec. Tat is not confusing huh?...hmmm...if u wan i can recommend u some websites which are not confusing and stated clearly...

Yet when i asked them why is it so confusing...they replied me "Follow the options"...i was like..."ok...if i understand ur options why would i be asking u?"...but no offense to you bro...it is juz a feedback to improve their service

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

However, I just looked through our chat history from December to January and could not find any related chat, maybe I just missed it out. Can you roughly advise your chat request date for us to look through the performance of staff?

Hi sir,

I believe "starting from" is already in the first post.

Not trying to give excuse here but there were reasons when we designed the webpage.
http://store.illegear.com/illegear-noteboo...gear-rx-17.html

Unfortunately the price tag RM7599 is changed according to the specification changes, if you meant putting a "starting from" in front of the RM7599, that sounds good but it can be confusing too when the price variable changes. E.g. When upgrading the screen the price tag becomes "starting from RM7998" which will end up confusion of base price. Do let me know if you have better suggestion on the custom configuration page biggrin.gif

Hope to have your understanding that illegear.com is a beta site (just on cloud since December) and we welcome any feedback to improve our website, apologies for all the inconveniences caused smile.gif

If anyone feels confusing when using our website, please submit your feedback/suggestion to webmaster@illegear.com .

Prince J, I think he meant this, for example:

There is a list of specs, then there is a price.
The list of specs is fixed, but the price is dynamic based on the specs client select at the bottom sweat.gif

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

However, I just looked through our chat history from December to January and could not find any related chat, maybe I just missed it out. Can you roughly advise your chat request date for us to look through the performance of staff?

Thank you smile.gif

Ask your webmaster to hide the word "starting from" when the value is bigger than 7599(or change the specs...)...(one option)...or remove the specifications on top...put them in the product page with the word starting from...
Second option...find any other website as references...(eg:aftershockpc.com or dell customizing page)...

Very interesting piece of machinery. Here are some thoughts on it from a personal viewpoint.
1. Battery life.
3 hours. For a machine that is supposedly portable. On what can be considered casual usage. I do understand the juice required to run this baby, but this is rather fatal in terms of practical usage. Can a larger capacity battery be fitted? 5 hours should be the minimum I feel.
2. Screen.
Some might argue that the resolution is more than enough for a screen this size. Maybe, but would prefer a higher resolution maybe to the likes of the MacBook Air. Of course not at the expense of battery life. And the corners are just an invitation for dust, much prefer a flush screen on the likes of HP Mini.
3. Build quality.
Would have to play with one to find out.
4. Touchpad.
As before, got to try it.
Everything else seems fine, in fact I would get one if not for the weak points stated above. Might get a future iteration depending on any improvements.

You should have replied here in fact, just a suggestion. I do think my "input" and how you cleared it up should be invaluable to address any issues raised. Not to spark a discussion or raise malcontent, since my views and usage is strictly personal. For the benefit of everyone interested. Thanks by the way for clarifying some queries.

We do keep system parts for repair especially for those opt for warranty extension. We always suggest customer to pick the warranty package according to their expected notebook lifespan therefore we can forecast the spare part inventory.

Normal in R-11:)
The idle temperature is 55 to 60 C.
But it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't go above 93C

We ran 4 hour GPU stress test on your machine and it's running fine.

As far as I can see, there is only a 6 cell battery available but you can get a replacement (second one) of these no problem, but I don't see an 8 cell on the cards yet.

Hi! Been reading through the thread, very happy with the opinions of the R-11. I've seen the pictures of it, but what's your take on screen quality? Could you post pictures of the screen at a normal viewing angles, perhaps watching a video or surfing the net? I've heard that the color reproduction isn't that good, which makes the screen look washed-out. Anybody able to confirm it? I would really like to get this notebook, it's just that I want a decent viewing experience.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Have you face it problem during normal usage, instead of gaming? Or did you update any drivers for system or gpu lately?
