ada, but didn't manage to land my target species. just too strong for my 10-20lbs setup. need something heavier and with stronger drag.

in the end, i gave up and went 5-12lbs and play with the asian cat. landed a few.

i always use berkley gulp for the asian redtails. cast it and slow retrieve. hook size 1/0 fits nicely but prone to bending.

Guys, i just got my fishing set from my cousin's place, I grab the Ugly Stik Tiger BWC 2201, and the spinning reel Maguro Nova 6000, those are the thinnest and shortest rod that i can find, others are either too damn long almost double my high or too thick like for fishing sharks. Is the reel and rod ok for a start? Is Ugly stik tiger a spinning rod? What i saw from youtube the tiger is orange color, but mine is black. And also ppl use it with cast reel, is it the same? What can i do with this kind of setting?

6'6 ft long or 7'0ft,rating 15-40lbs
What I can say is, u've got yourself some pretty heavy setup there.
These are seafishing setups.

How to differentiate between casting and spinning rod? His thinnest rod is almost double my height, the ugly stik is the most normal looking rod. Is it weird if i use this to fish in normal pay pond or lake??

Street, concur with bro viox.
saltwater tackle they be
most baitcasters (BC rods) have a trigger at the reel seat and their guides are lined up on the opposite site http://www.i-tackle.net/product/417/1259/b...ting%20rod.html
spinning rods don't have that trigger http://www.landbigfish.com/Daiwa/Daiwa-Steez-Casting-Rod.cfm
the longer rods ... are some thinner than the tiger?
are they two piece rods? if they are, you might wanna try those ... hmmm, they might be surf rods ... pix and details would be helpful

good to know 1dollar bro ... you'll cross that bridge when you come to it biggrin.gif
wow, quite a number of new daddies ... congratzzzz

The trigger that u mention do u mean the pistol grip handle near the reel seat?i don't really get what u mean sorry. Is ugly stik tiger a salt water tackle? tiger is the thinnest rod that i found in his house, all 1 piece rod. Except for 1 2 piece rod that is slimmer then the tiger, but roughly 4m tall. Here are some pictures i took ytd on the tiger rod, not sure what i take is important info or not. thanks.Attached Image Attached Image

Most of the size 1/0 or 2/0 local hooks or hooks by owner has the tendency to be straightened if u kena those bigger amazonian.

Friend recommended to use the jigging hooks by decoy but those r very pricy. RM21 for a pack of 8 if I'm not mistaken.

I just remember that the tiger's holes for the line is from big to smallest at the tip, bait casting rod should have same size hole all the way right?i remember i read this info somewhere dono correct or not.

Street, confirm your cuz's tackle is for salt use.
15-40lb is more suited for seafishing
4m ... sure sounds like surf rod
hang on to a set or two ... lol ... in case you get to go to sea

5' 6" to 6' 6" is what you should be looking for
8-17lb or there about

BC rod http://tackletour.com/reviewfenwickhmg.html
spinning rod http://tackletour.com/reviewstcroixles76mlxf.html

Guys, Thanks for all the answers, appreciate it alot. The fishing sets are typically mine if i ask for it, but then maybe wait for awhile because my cousin just recently pass away. Will i get laugh at if i use this kind of setting for small freshwater fish?Let me try it out at the lake garden in damansara, dono whether allow fishing or not hahaha. Thanks again.
