QUOTE(faujc99 @ Mar 27 2013, 09:37 PM) it happens all the time lol, but i think key is to find out what fish is in there. i've been to a huge pond, not many ppl fish there, and a lot a lot splashes. what else, cast la. lures, soft bait, spoon, ntg work. and my hand was so tired cant even lift the rod, guess wat, a medium size fish splashed in front of my eye, BANDARAYA!! ahaha saw red talapia, looks like koi fish, toman.heard ppl say got haruan and keli also.water dark, fish there sometimes afternoon or evening.tried cacing, katak, chicken liver, roti, dedak, ikan keli, chicken meat, float popper, dive popper, lure frog, lure rat.last go home with weed.have u tried cacing? universal bait. is the water clear or muddy? do u see a lot ikan longkang at the side? wat time u fish? again, key is to find out wat fish is in there. my 2cent newbie opinion |

QUOTE(faujc99 @ Apr 5 2013, 03:25 AM) PD beach usually i see them use prawn (around 2 inch), u can get pari, kurau, gelama etc, using paternoster rig, rig the prawn whole with the shell. there was once i was fishing in PD, saw small fishes jumping, casted in my prawn lure, retrieve in at fast pace, managed to land a barracuda. anyway bite rate is not good. if u happen to find a good spot, hope u can share it here bro. all the best I will buy prawns at pasar later.we using spinning rod.maybe will try different spot.i ask ppl they say rent sampan rm400 max 4ppl 8am to 5pm,will try next time.pd beach is bite rate terrible r?btw u guys using surf casting rod? |

Thanks for sifu ahcheong7 advise, but i dont have a casting set yet ler..I target mostly fresh water fishing, maybe sometimes will do some inshore saltwater fishing.(b4 this use spinning rod to cast lure, heavy and slow cast Budget is rm250-rm400 include rod, reel, line.(not too heavy not too light, not sure about this.need some advise Prefer Left crank(i thought can switch both side like spinning Low profile / Round (whats the difference other than its outlook?) and 1 more thing, what is reel backlash?not so understand. just now i go to empangan batu to try out the casting set my uncle give.
walao..at 1st keep going char bihun.most of the time busy fixing the bihun. but still keep going char bihun when cast a spinning bait.i feel the weight is unbalance like the weight is separate to 2 side when cast out.is this normal and how to catch up the step? what is feather brake as mention by bro acheong and bro vioxmonsta? QUOTE(acheong7 @ May 12 2013, 09:05 AM) lol .. it really isn't that bad Wah..thanks to sifu acheong lesson.like a life dictionary remember wot i said earlier bout training the thumb? that's training your thumb to 'feather', ie lightly touch the spool ... like an ultralight ABS in action BCs have two parts you need to know well when it comes to casting - clutch/spool control knob - brakes simply put: the clutch determines how loose the spool is ... the looser it is, the easier it is for it to turn and lures go out faster (at this stage, very easy for bihun oso) bihun happens when the spool turns faster than line goes out then when line lay is not good and is loose, when line bites into the rest of the line brakes are for slowing down the spool after a cast ... be it immediately or towards the end of the cast for beginners, if you're using centrifugal brakes, set it three on, three off, alternate them .... one on one off one on one off leave the brakes after setting it .... play around with the clutch to find the drop/fall speed at which you don't mihun .. in the beginning, encouraged to be slower, then let it fall faster as you get used to it. getting used to casting with a looser spool involves educating the thumb to feather the spool as line goes out ... no short cut or two ways bout it ... worth the effort to learn don't need to readjust brakes everytime for now, focus on getting your casts right, not distance distance automatically comes as you get used to it as you get used to it, change the 3-on, 3 off brake setting to 2-on, then 1-on .. then totally off you'd be surprised with the 2-on after using 3-on after some time .. you'll be itching to turn everything off lololol can someone pls chime in for magnetic brakes? desperate for a backup reel, i bought a DAM vittatus magnetic brake BC don't make any difference to me as for the lure weight ... follow the recommended range stated on the rod .. go for the heavier end first, ie 10-25g .. go for the 25g lure and practise with that all the best that day i ask my uncle what is the function of this controller(magnetic brake controller),he told me 'no need to set this one, just set the spool speed can d.'where i only know today when i check online that is for controlling the brake. the reel is magnectic brake.the spool speed control no clicker.the brake got clicker and number 0-10,can set half code example 0.5,1,1.5.so i just set the spool speed slower at 1st and set the brake agak-agak? and is it the same teori for setting spool speed/brake when cast a live bait(etc.)keli)? and my uncle told me when cast the rod should stop at 2 o'clock so the lure can go further.and set the spool slower if wind is strong coz the wind will against the line speed.is it correct? |

but still cant feather brake.only able to stop the spool at the ending of lure drop.thumb still stiff and gan cheong. |
