My ul n l gear setups complete adi. Thinking of a 8-16 lbs spinning as backup gear in case having a bad day of cbh.
*
bro, I think 8-16 or 8-17 pretty common... as mentioned I really like the ryobi red and white colored rod, i saw in ss4 and cempaka (BU new village), i remember i saw one which is 6feet, not sure if got longer but rating still the same at 8-16..... freakin light wei.... Price about RM140+-

or your standard prefer higher end one.... can check out the majorcrafts lo... i remember slicer got 8-17lb 6.5ft, not sure if got spinning or not...

some Viper rods (full white and full yellow) i see pretty impressive also la... especially for the price (usually below RM100) drool.gif drool.gif

i totally understand you,.. will join your club soon next month onwards hahaa
But i think going to jpond or exotic once a month is OK geh.
Some also wont agree cos wild fishes fight stronger... that also i totally agree.
But work calls,.. we have to be on stand by most the time.

word, bro ... word ... hahhahahaha
must find opportunity to tag along to JPond at least once

Street, don't need tackle to join ... most kakis anywhere welcome newbies
you get a chance to ask, find out, discuss, try out .. as our bro has also volunteered his spare

i personally think that's the best way to go ... unless you know what you wanna do adi and it's just a matter of getting what you want/need

mebbe read up (as alternative to joining kakis) on various types of fishing one can do
fresh ... salt ... pond, lake, impoundment, river, stream, sea
rod & line poundage, purpose
proper use of drag
suggest you pop by a tackle shop or so to window shop, talk to proprietors
hold some reels & rods in your hands .. get a feel
hold ABU, daiwa, shimano rods and reels ... compare prices
read more .. ask more ... hehehhehehe once you've identified what you wanna do and get, it'll be easier to decide what gear to get on 500

*
fully agree.... fishing is a "social" kinda sport.... must go with kakis.... fish fish, tok kok sing song, no fish also never mind.... got fish bonus lo... whistling.gif whistling.gif

and almost every angler i meet quite willing to share their experiences also (including lots of fisherman story about eh "big one" that got away... standard lo... kakakakaka..... i think i do that also la.... )... learn something new everytime....

And i think most of us will have some spare rods and reels to spare also... but dun expect it to be top notch la... kekeke.... i still remember back in the days i bought those cheapo RM10 rods and RM20 reels... some still can use geh... but good to start with cos then you'll feel the contrast/difference compared to the rods and reels u really want to get...

might i add that planning our schedule is easier too.

wild fish hunting can take up to 3/4 of a day... and with missus and/or kids in tow, who has that kind of luxury of time to go hunt...  sad.gif

yeah man .. no way .... wifey still ok ... but bringing along three children with varying needs ... kenot fish

8-16 rods memang berlambak.. rory say wanna custom ma... so i hand itchy oso wanna custom loh.. haha

actually, i'm quite spoilt with majorcraft rods adi. already have a few from their stables, namely the volkey, go-emotion, crosstage and skyroad series. sensitivity, quality and built is very impressive. but then again, you get what you pay for la..

Am still trying to get the rod blanks in a bunch ...

a few criteria that i have
1. Rod built
2. Material used
3. Lightness
4. Nicks and dents
5. Balancing of the rod

I'll update once i get informations on the rod blank qualities smile.gif

So we all agree on 8~17 rating?

Different ponds have different house rules. Some r lures only, some r bottom only, some no floats, some cannot use treble hooks, some must bring back the fish caught, some must release back into the pond, some must go commando, some .... Well. U get the drift...

Thanks for the fast reply.

One more question, why don't people just use one thickest rod and reel to do all the fishing, whether small or big fish? why do people need so many setup for different size of fish ?
*
You dont need a barrett .50 cal to shoot a rabbit. What people call overkill biggrin.gif

Fishing is not just about catching fish. Its about the sensation and feeling while fishing a fish.

You can use the thickest rods and line no problem, but the fun is gone.

Using a Barrett .50 to shoot a rabbit is like using a harpon to shoot a PB. tongue.gif
