hmm, wondering how long should a rod be. my current rod is 1.95 meters and it is longer than me. sometimes i feel its much easier and less pain in the neck handling a shorter rod ...
i suppose longer rods allow stronger and longer casts while shorter ones are weaker? do long rods and shorter rods have different durability? |

QUOTE(faujc99 @ Mar 30 2013, 11:38 PM) durability i really dont know but yes, longer rod can cast further. i'm using a 6 foot rod, 1.95m i think is 6 foot 6. to me as long its comfortable to u, then its all good. go for 6 foot or 5 foot 6, much easier to handle the length is a little too long, maybe 6 foot would be better. and 1 more thing, my rod is metal .... DARN HEAVY lol ... i am thinking of switching to a graphite rod with a bait casting reel.can i still do power casting with bait casting reel? say i attach it to a long rod. i love the reels used by tat jeremy wades, i cant afford and wont be buying the exact types but i am thinking of getting one with same design. with a light rod and a good reel, i see people casting short - medium range with 1 hand by just a simple swing. so cool man. luckily i got my whole set for just RM70 haha, wan buang oso not so pain |

QUOTE(faujc99 @ Mar 31 2013, 12:01 PM) i think putting in 1 - 2 exotic fishes or rare fish like the amazon or asean redtail would be sufficient. and then put in a few other local non aggressive species. that way your niche will be the red tail and since they are the kings there they can grow quick to large sizes, and which you could promote.my idea is that people could associate your pond as being famous for "giant red tail catfishes" rather than "that pond wad oso got". but i think the key is to know what people would love to fish for. i was thinking perhaps people would like to fish for haruan or giant snakehead, coz a lot of action. but i wonder if many people kept casting baits into the water, the snakeheads would somehow start to figure it out and just stop biting... lol but please take this with a pinch of salt. this is just some random thoughts of a mass comm grad lol. |

QUOTE(inv @ Apr 13 2013, 08:24 PM) i believe that you get what you pay for. there's a chinese saying, 1 cent money 1 cent goods. a typical local branded rod will set you back at least rm100 and any reel below rm100 won't be able to handle 20kg. i suggest you pay kepong tackle a visit and re-evaluate your budget. of course, there might be hidden gems around but i have yet to know of any... thanks a lot! really appreciate your advicekepong tackle! i am looking forward to get a shorter rod (baitcasting rod) and still be able to handle large fish but i think that is really hard coz the ones i saw back at my hometown can only handle up to 20lbs at best lol. |

QUOTE(inv @ Apr 14 2013, 01:10 PM) for freshwater, the common poundage is the 8-17lbs range. like previous advice, don't bring a gun to a sword fight and don't bring a sword to a gun fight. hmm, omg i think i just realize something... the poundage of the line and reel does not have to be the same as the 'weight' of the fish? i'm curious, why do you need such heavy gear for? most freshwater setup max out at 30lbs and that also ppl use it to pull out amazonian redtails in exotic.. haha.. its ok to tackle a fish with poundage lesser than the fish's weight? actually it would be great if you could recommend me a set of gears.. hehe i am looking for a short, light weight rod with a lever drag reel. i saw Avet has the Avet SX 5.3 Single Speed Reel. from wad i read it's for smaller rods. reason why i want the lever drag reel is becoz i can preset the drag and not having to struggle with the star drag when i catch a fish. and i also like the outlook of the lever drag reel hehe. been fishing at Tasik Kelana, wonder if you guys been there before... few ponds around there, could see fishes splashing water about, used lure but nothing bite, bottom fishing with worms and the worms are left untouched.
could see loads of dead small blue tilapia all around the banks of the ponds. any ideas what bait to use? or any guides to fish there? i am planning to try dedak this time since the fishes there has no interest in worms or bait lures |

QUOTE(chun @ Jun 17 2013, 06:07 PM) wah.... so long never come in here liao... hahahah.... thanks for the info! hmm i wonder what other species are found there... Tilapia, catfish, carp all these can be found there? what bait would you recommend for others?Sneaky: to answer your question, yes, Prima is a huge lake and popular one, hence lots of ppl go there to fish....hence pressure quite high... if you hunting toman, recommended to go on boat.... If u dun have a boat.... maybe u want to try hunting the peacock bass there would be easier... recommended "lure" is of cos Spin Fly!!! huahaha Heard that recently peacocks starting to bite again... (altho i heard news about 2 weeks back lar) i tried using bread back in my hometown when fishing but nothing bites ... i heard bread wif garlic would attract, still nothing bites. |

QUOTE(faujc99 @ Aug 16 2013, 12:24 AM) i stayed in puchong for quite a number of years, i've tried a lot of lakes in puchong but never this IOI Mall lake cuz i dunno where to start..maybe we can go together if u found a good spot, the lake is tooooo huge there's 1 spot at the left side of ioi mall, right below the open parking space there's one small curve-out where there's lots of vegetations surrounding it and it looks like a really good spot to fish. however last time i went it was 'netted'. there is 1 spot next to hyundai showroom, looks promising but never tried myself though what about kepong wisma tnb? sungai batu, i wonder if anyone went there b4 |
