My router rt-n16 is almost 2.5 years old. Can still claim warranty if broken? Go back to the shop or Asus service center to do claim?

Thanks
What's wrong with your RT-N16?
Is it dead or bricked?

power on no light.
Have you tried with a different AC adapter?
Find an AC adapter that comes with the same polarity, same tip size, same voltage but with the same or higher AMP.
Do not use an AC adapter with a lower AMP.

Example:
The original AC adapter comes with 12V & 1.25AMP
Using an AC adapter that comes with 12V & 2AMP is fine.

If you have the older HyppTV that looks like in the picture below, you can use the AC adapter from that.

user posted image

If your router still doesn't work even after using a different AC adapter, then that means your router is dead.
And since the warranty for your RT-N16 is already over (RT-N16 warranty is only 2 years), you can open the casing & check all the capacitors, see if they are bulging.
If any of the capacitor(s) is bulging, then all you need is to replace the bulging capacitor(s).

lex can help you replace the bulging capacitor(s). At a cost offcourse.
In fact, he can help you replace the capacitors with a higher quality so your RT-N16 will stay alive a lot longer. thumbup.gif

The latest firmware RT-AC68U - 3.0.0.4.376.1663 , does it have problems with UNIFI ? I was told not to upgrade it.
Not to upgrade to what?
I'm using RT-AC68U too & it's working fine with my UniFi 10Mb/s.

But I no longer use official ASUS firmware.
I'm using AsusWRT-Merlin 376.47.

Merlin, yea reading it. not good at configuring it .
Setting up AsusWRT-Merlin is the same as setting up Asus official firmware.
The differences between those 2 firmwares is AsusWRT-Merlin offers extra features & bug fixes that official Asus official firmware doesn't have.

Hi everybody, i just bought ASUS N14UHP router, and would like to know IN SHORT, for those settings, bandwith should i go for 20mhz or 40mhz ? to get the 300mbps speed... currently got 150mbps, but would like to try if i can get 300mbps as stated or not.

please advice and terima kasih biggrin.gif

: using UNIFI VIP 20
: Laptop is msi latest model ( internet card shud be the newest )
: make sure i wont get any laggy when i gaming while someone using youtube or facebook
: stream HD videos fast fast fast fast fast ! tongue.gif
To connect at 300Mb/s, both your laptop & the router must be able to support 300Mb/s connection.
And to enable 300Mb/s, you'll have to choose 40MHz.

  - NEW: Added postconf and custom config support for snmpd.conf

  - CHANGED: Disabled SSLv2 and SSLv3 support for https access to the

cause a slight drop in performance, but should improve
             both reliability and security.
  - FIXED: DNSFilter client list dropdown would sometime be empty.
  - FIXED: DNS queries run on the router were forwarded to upstream
           nameservers instead of dnsmasq
  - FIXED: Re-added the USB HID kernel module needed for UPS monitoring
           (patch by ryzhov_al)
  - FIXED: Incorrect top margin on some pages such as AiCloud, and
stretched font on the progress splash (Asus bug)

 - CHANGED: Reverted NTP update code to GPL 2678 in hopes of

Hi, may i know why can't i upgrade RT-N12HP - 3.0.0.4.376.2048 ?
it shows that "Firmware upgrade unsucessfully. It may result from incorrect image or error transmission."
Download the firmware again & use an ethernet cable to do the firmware upgrade.
DO NOT upgrade firmware over WiFi.

Once the download is finished, extract the file to the root folder of your harddisk. Do not extract it into another folder.
Example: "C:\"

Hi can recommend a Asus modem router which has Gigabit port? Wifi N is sufficient.Using Streamyx 4M. Budget around 300.
TQ
Sorry but there's nothing from ASUS that fits your requirement at that budget.

The cheapest ASUS DSL modem router with Gigabit ports is ASUS DSL-N16U.
But it's not available in Malaysia.

Your only choice for now is ASUS DSL-N55U priced at RM485 in lelong.com.my.

Wireless is not working properly.
If all the wireless devices in your house is capable of wireless N, set the Wireless Mode to "N Only"
Then set the Channel bandwidth to "20MHz"
Lastly, set the Control Channel to a channel that is not used by your neighbours.

Hmm... Thanks for this suggestion, now definitely looking into it especially since it seems to have been launched this year if I've read correctly so far. Gonna check out performance tests and reviews to see how it stacks up compared to the RT-N56U. Preliminary comparisons shows its much better specs wise. Are u using it? Real world usage?
No, I'm using RT-N16 & RT-AC68U.

The only good thing about RT-N56U is that it supports dual band WiFi. 2.4GHz & 5GHz.
But as we all know, 5GHz WiFi coverage is quite weak when compared to 2.4GHz.

Below are a few comparisons between RT-N18U & RT-N56U

Antennas:
RT-N18U - External antennas - Upgradeable.
RT-N56U - Internal antennas - Non-upgradeable.

RAMs:
RT-N18U - 256MB
RT-N56U - 128MB

Flash:
RT-N18U - 128MB
RT-N56U - 8MB

USB Ports:
RT-N18U - 1xUSB 3.0 + 1xUSB 2.0
RT-N56U - 2xUSB 2.0

CPU Speed:
RT-N18U - 800MHz
RT-N56U - 500MHz

2.4GHz MiMo Config:
RT-N18U - 3x3:3
RT-N56U - 2x2:2

Sadly there isn't much "real" people usage reviews.
RT-N18U is a very new model. Replacing the out of production RT-N16.
So there's no surprise that there's very little review about it.
QUOTE(voncrane @ Nov 12 2014, 01:02 AM)
At one point, I considered the RT-N16
RT-N16 is no longer in production.
You wouldn't be able to find it in Malaysia nowadays except for 2nd hand units.

It's an old model, but a very solid performer nonetheless.
My 3 & ½ year old RT-N16 is still working perfectly.

Do anyone/ASUS representative know where can I get the replacement for the power adapter, either original/non-original. Or is there any other method that I can use to test the router itself, 'cause I just want to know whether its the power adapter that is having problem or the router itself or both. Thanks.
RT-N66U uses a 19v adaptor rated at 1.58A which is about the same as most laptop AC adaptor provides.
Using another 19v adaptor to test the router is fine as long as the amp rating is the same or higher than the original adaptor provides.
But using another adaptor that provides lower or higher voltage is a definite no-no as it'll destroy the router.

Basic informations that you should look on another AC adaptor to test the router:
Same Voltage = Yes
Same Amp = Yes
Lower Voltage = No
Lower Amp = No
Higher Voltage = No
Higher Amp = Yes

You also have to make sure the charging tip & the polarity is the same.

Refer the image below to find out which polarity is the correct one for your RT-N66U.
I've already ticked the correct one for you.
