Haven't bought one yet was looking at this webpage.

Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300-16gb Brand New Set 24 Months Warranty FOC Pouc..

Are they a reliable retailer, seen their name on here quite a bit.

Let me explain. I want to buy an S3 in KL as they are cheaper than Thailand. It will not be easy for me to get back to Malaysia to make a warranty claim therefore I am thinking of an AP unit and the money I save, 700RM, could be used to make any repairs if I am unlucky enough to need to. So really I am gambling that any repairs needed will not cost more than 700RM and forgetting about any warranty. Now if the phone suffers sudden death then I am screwed so I am looking to minimise this risk if possible. From what I have read no 32GB S3 has suffered sudden death so that would seem to be the best AP option. BTW the 32GB unit isn't even available in Thailand.

Guys, just got my phone yesterday Gray SME S3. Hardware version is 1.5 so I guess no SDS issue. Everything checked and worked well. I switched from iOS to android, and for me the S3 is not very smooth. Especially when I am installing/downloading multiple apps at once. Anyone can recommend what good apps to monitor my S3 or other useful app? I am new to Android after all and I am still exploring. Hehe. Looking forward to join u guys.

SDS only happening after 150-200 days of using.

it is not the cause of hardware, it's cause is software based, a corrupted memory block, fixable by flashing new kernel / bootloader, so any variant will do, just need to root and flash things

OK thanks.

So the reason I can't find an example of a 32GB version suffering sudden death is just down to the number of units sold i.e. a small percentage of all S3 are affected and an much smaller percentage of those units have been 32GB.

Siyah Kernel 1.8.7 is up!

Quoted by Gokhan Moral ~
QUOTE
it's not a big update. just rebased the kernel on i9300 update7 sources.
exynos-mem and sudden death issues are supposed to be fixed.
I have tested the kernel on cm10.1 (latest nightly) and samsung JB (as secondary) roms.
there are tiny changes in ramfs to move .secondrom folder back to sdcard root after you install cm10.1. so, you should not have any problems after installing cm10.1 for the first time.
I'll be around more next week and I have some new features in mind.

Hello..im planing to use titanium backup to freeze some app in my fon..so my question is
1) i notice the apps list written in white, green, and red..does this have any meaning?
2) do i need to enable(tick) usb debugging mode checkbox?
3)from what i understand ' freeze ' will cause the app is not running thus will free more ram..is it correct?
tq so much...

That being the case and since you had your SIM card cut, perhaps you can go to your telco and get a totally new Micro SIM as your current card's problem could be due to some fault caused by uneven cuts.
*
Ok, thanks for the advice. Will ask for the new original micro sim instead of the cut down version. Will see if it helps. smile.gif

Yes, mobile ODIN is unable to flash bootloader.
At this time, the new bootloader is not required. Not yet any good reason to flash it.
At the moment, what is known is that you do not need the new bootloader to be secure against SDS.
The stock 4.1.2 kernel is enough, so you're good.

IMO, if it is RM700 you are going to save then versus the so-called mentioned risk, it might just be worth it. Who knows, no 'harm' may befall on your unit at all. You can get an AP unit and 2 known places are SatuGadgetDotCom and DirectD. One is in Pudu, KL albeit a bit further down. The other is in Subang, PJ (if I am not mistaken).

However, do check thoroughly when you do the purchase since you are not going to be here for long. Good luck.

Lag on SIII is already very improved, smoothness may not yet compare to iOS but you're free of Apple ecosystem so I think it is worthwhile trade-off icon_rolleyes.gif
Bloatware is the only bane of stock ROM and it is fixable (once you get more comfortable with Android); either freeze them or find a ROM/kernel that you like and suits you.

1. Use menu key, select Help & Support, click legend
explanation of colors and what you see on the screen is all there
2. You may or may not need usb debugging
=> needed for ADB shell and complex recovery/installs
=> whether you need it or not for Titanium Backup, depends on the ROM
see this http://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-b...hnical-faq.html
3. Yes.
=> You can freeze user apps safely, system apps you need to be careful.
=> See samsung bloatware link on 1st page for list of system apps that are safe to freeze
=> IMHO, if the user app is bad enough for you to freeze, i suggest just uninstall it.

Titanium Backup is an advanced utility so there is a lot to play around with, just read through the knowledge base on the link I gave you.
