Congrats on a great forum guys, learned so much already and haven't got an S3 yet.
Where is a good retailer to buy SME S3, reading here that LowYat isn't recommended.

QUOTE(kopiPeng @ Jan 13 2013, 07:55 PM) where you from? why dont just buy at your country? I live mainly in Thailand and the S3 is 2,200 RM there. Worth buying in Malaysia.

QUOTE(noobandroid @ Jan 13 2013, 08:03 PM) since u from thai, why dont buy from malaysian border state near thailand, it's closer and easier to manage services I live in the North of Thailand which is a looooong way from the Malaysia border. I am in KL for a day next week so thought I would pick up an S3 whilst I am there.

QUOTE(nokia6280 @ Jan 13 2013, 09:14 PM) Sawadee Krab! Since you will be for 6 hours buying from Samsung is the best but you have "Phen dee" in Malaysia you can ask them to send you to PGRM for RM 1699... PGRM is a shopping complex ? and the price 1699 RM is cheaper than Bukit Bintang ? that is for a SME not AP unit ? Thanks for using the Thai language but actually I am from England but working in SE Asia.

QUOTE(nokia6280 @ Jan 14 2013, 08:33 AM) Haven't bought one yet was looking at this webpage. Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300-16gb Brand New Set 24 Months Warranty FOC Pouc..Are they a reliable retailer, seen their name on here quite a bit. Let me explain. I want to buy an S3 in KL as they are cheaper than Thailand. It will not be easy for me to get back to Malaysia to make a warranty claim therefore I am thinking of an AP unit and the money I save, 700RM, could be used to make any repairs if I am unlucky enough to need to. So really I am gambling that any repairs needed will not cost more than 700RM and forgetting about any warranty. Now if the phone suffers sudden death then I am screwed so I am looking to minimise this risk if possible. From what I have read no 32GB S3 has suffered sudden death so that would seem to be the best AP option. BTW the 32GB unit isn't even available in Thailand. QUOTE(eszol @ Jan 14 2013, 09:19 AM) Sounds like a good plan to me. Just go to any shop in KL and make sure the s3 is not cloned one. Buy it and you are free to leave Malaysia with a brand new s3. And do keep up with this forum and xda to get updated for the fix of sudden death Thanks but what I really want to know is the 32GB at the same risk of sudden death as the 16GB version ??

QUOTE(noobandroid @ Jan 14 2013, 09:55 AM) it is not the cause of hardware, it's cause is software based, a corrupted memory block, fixable by flashing new kernel / bootloader, so any variant will do, just need to root and flash things OK thanks. So the reason I can't find an example of a 32GB version suffering sudden death is just down to the number of units sold i.e. a small percentage of all S3 are affected and an much smaller percentage of those units have been 32GB.

QUOTE(ati radeon @ Jan 15 2013, 09:23 AM) whats the difference between the 2 boards 1.1 and 1.5? The 'VTU00M, revision 0xf1 eMMC' in combination with a firmware bug used on the 1.1 is what is thought to be causing SDS. It has been updated on the 1.5.

QUOTE(tigerporc @ Jan 15 2013, 02:11 PM) There are 32GB SME sets (but quite limited I believe) - Lelong verified sellers who accepts safetrade is normally safe but of course no 100% guarantees. Search lelong for safetrade description, I have never used safetrade but then again will prefer to only buy online for low cost items. Some photos of the 32GB SME box can be found here; will have SME sticker address at the back as well http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2465261/allThanks for that. I am not a Malaysia resident and will be in Malaysia tomorrow for the day only so I will have to buy at an actual store. I will have to contact a few stores when I arrive and if they have stock pay them a visit. I would buy a 16GB but I am worried about the SDS that affects this model. If I could be sure to get a unit with the updated motherboard then that is what I would buy. But how can you be sure ????

QUOTE(LordDenning @ Jan 15 2013, 02:51 PM) I think most of the S3s out there now are new ones already.. At least for SME. I'm not too sure about AP sets.. Had 2 friends who just got their S3, one of them bought last last week and another one bought few days ago.. Both of their S3s had the MP 1.5 motherboard instead of the 1.1 and before my friend could get his S3 few days ago, he had to wait for a week because there was no stock of S3, so yeah maybe they shipped in the new S3s already.. anyway here's the code to check your motherboard hardware rev once you got it, good luck! *#12580*369# OK that's good to know, I guess I could make it a condition of purchase at a number of retailers until one gives me a guarantee that the units he is selling do have the new motherboard. Thanks again.

QUOTE(nokia6280 @ Jan 15 2013, 02:00 PM) Malaysia yet to sell 32gb S3 , initially i remember you wanted to buy 16GB AP set, change you mind? For me i like COD rather than paying online for expensive stuffs I would still buy a 16GB AP but I have read a lot about SDS that is affecting the 16GB units and it seemed the best way to avoid a future problem would be to buy a 32GB unit which are not affected. I am now thinking get a 16BG or a 32GB unit from a retailer with a high turnover and try to get a guarantee that the units he is selling have the updated motherboard in them.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jan 15 2013, 04:08 PM) You have already been given the code to check the HW version. So, why don't you check it when you are at the shop. Ask them to open up the box and let you check the unit. Most shops anyway would have opened the boxes to check if the units are in working order when they get their stock from the suppliers. Wow all customers in Malaysia buy electronics with the manufactures seals already broken ? My plan is to get the retailer to open the sealed box in front of me start the unit and then check it using the code. If the unit has the new motherboard THEN I pay for it. If not the retailer has a problem to sell the unit with the seal broken. I think this should be possible.
