I am trying to find the "beirut" at the peak and I am not sure whether I am able to find it on my own. Anyone who have hike before Gunung Angsi can give some advice or guide the way up? Thanks.

If Gunung Irau compare to Gunung Nuang, Irau will way much easier for those who do not struggle to climb Gunung Nuang. If you expect not to rain at Gunung Irau, then you are totally wrong. When you are into hiking, be prepare to get wet and enjoy every single drop of rain. Muddy and slippery obstacles are your main concern for Gunung Irau.

Name: Sebastian Lee
Summits conquered: Gunung Ledang
Next target: Mount Kinabalu, April 2011
frequent workout place: Jogging weekly at Taman Titiwangsa, Wangsa Maju seksyen 2

Hi, Guys. new here. I am looking for team members to Mount Kinabalu in April 2011. kindly leave message here.
*
Since you have climb Gunung Ledang then you should not have any issue on climbing Gunung Kinabalu. Since you are from KL I guess (based on your frequent workout place), you should head down to few mountains to train. Good place will be Gunung Nuang via Pangsoon (Selangor), Gunung Nuang via Janda Baik (Pahang), Gunung LEW via Sungai Dara (Perak), Gunung Angsi via Ulu Bendul (Negeri Sembilan) and lots more.

Take note that there might be a price hike of 10% on Kinabalu hike starting from March 2011 according from my friend.

Enjoy the hike and cheers!

Where to train for Mount KK at Shah Alam or Klang area? Normally i go to Ah Pek at Cheras.
*
Not much mountain around Shah Alam or Klang. You should straight head down to Hulu Langat and try Gunung Nuang. Successful with the climb then Gunung Kinabalu is nothing but a piece of cake.

wow i see, i thought the west and east are actually the same, just that they are two different direction entrance sweat.gif looks like i am very wrong laugh.gif
*
Bukit Tabur West - start from left side from the main gate of Klang Gate
Bukit Tabur East - start from the pipelines

Both are two different ridges therefore it is different. Bukit Tabur West can offer you a sunrise directly but for Bukit Tabur East you will be able to see the mist coming from the rain forest and the reflection from the dam. Anyhow I still prefer to go to East instead of West because West is congested during weekend.

If I saw your message earlier, I will invite you to hike with me to East tomorrow, 18th January. If you would love to try Extreme, perhaps you do not mind joining me for a hike next month after CNY.

Note: Extreme is tougher than both East and West combined.

If you want to try something challenging, perhaps you can join a group that will be going to Gunung Benum.

P/s: Can be as tough as Gunung Tambuyukon or Gunung Chamah smile.gif.

Is it tough when climbing gunung gayong ? im interested here . thx  smile.gif
*
It is one of the G7 - Peninsular 7 highest mountain which all 7000+ ft.

Last time, Korbu-Gayong can be regard as one of the toughest trek but since it is popular, it became easier. Two campsites along the trail and depends where you really want to camp and possible camp at the peak of Korbu. From Korbu it will take around 2 hours of day pack to Gayong.

Last waterpoint should be 3 hours from Korbu. If you have no experience in camping, carrying weight around 10-25kg, better give this a skip. You will have to endure a minimum 3 days 2 nights here.

Perhaps you should try the easier mountain category. Some of the list I know:-

Gunung Datuk - Rembau, N9
Gunung Angsi - Kuala Pilah, N9
Gunung Bunga Buah - Genting Highlands
Gunung Tok Wan - Broga behind
Gunung Ulu Semangkuk - Fraser Hills
Pine Tree Trail - Fraser Hills
Gunung Kutu - Kuala Kubu Bharu
Gunung Lambak - Johor
Gunung Belumut - Johor
and bla bla bla.

When you want something cheap and reliable, you will realize most hikers will get the black rubber shoe, also known as Kampung Adidas. Price range from RM3.80 to RM8.80 per pair.

Good luck in your climb to APS. When you talked about lvl 6, you are coming from Cheras and that is the small peak of Ah Pak San. When you are hiking from Ampang, that would be Bukit Saga. Most people confuse with the name but both peak located at the same forest reserve.

Well it's a good training ground/starter for other mountains.

Lol
*
I will have to agreed with honeymic as I started training at Bukit Saga (alternative route to Ah Pek Hill) although it is just a hill or the the tougher one at Hulu Langat, Gunung Nuang. Try trekking with weight around 10kg with you and you will feel why Bukit Saga/Ah Pek Hill difficult. Never try never know.

Will be going with another lowyat forumer to 5 mountains starting tomorrow. Mountain height range from minimum 1500+ - 2000+. Not any of the G7s but those 1700m and 1800m aint going to be easy. That's for sure. Range time from 4 hours - 10 hours completion.

For Sunday trip, it will be a camping trip so definitely you will not be prepared within a day with the food and stuff. Would not advice you to go as well as it is steep all the way up.

As for Monday and Tuesday trip, I will welcome you to join us if you have the time. Meeting point would be at Cameron Highlands as we need some time to travel from Sunday event. Interested PM me back before 4pm today or else tough for me to do the arrangement. Thanks.
