I have join this club too and they organize hikes, camping trips etc. on a regular basis and the difficulty of each hikes is rated so you can choose according to your strength. Check it out yourself.

As mentioned, at http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/953119/+100

Some of the difficulty they mentioned just too ridiculous for me.

For beginners try those easier hills and mountains first.

Try to adapt yourself with the terrain before moving to the difficult hike. Follow your own speed but make sure you are not to far with the member in front of you.

where can I find those hiking poles around ampang area / kl ?

and any tips on choosing one
*
If KLCC is near to you, perhaps you can visit Tear Proof Sdn Bhd. They have it everywhere even at 1 Utama and Mid Valley. Trekking pole also can be purchase at certain Jusco. Mid Valley's Jusco you are able to find Deuter products easily and for Karrimor products head down to 1 Utama's Jusco. Hope that helps.

Can anyone tell me if Columbia trail shoes are waterproof? How about teva/hi tec?
*
When talk about waterproof shoes - my brand that come on my mind would be Timberland. Columbia do come with waterproof shoes but the same situation applied to Timberland, it's very limited in Malaysia market.

A lot of people define waterproof as you would not get wet after wearing one but they are wrong. They are waterproof from the side and if you are using the footwear to do river crossing, eventually you still get wet. Would not be cheap at the market, range price would be from around RM300 and above.

I shall ask about my friend about Teva sandals later since he used that before. Personally have not heard of Hi Tec before.

Actually it's not abt crossing thru streams. As long as it doesn't get wet during rainfall and if it can withstand cold wind, then that is good enough for me.

Currently there's only 10% discount at Jusco. Is there anywhere else that has 20% off?
*
You still get wet if you are referring to trek during the rain. The raindrop will sip in from the top and nothing much you can do about that.

About the Teva, my friend used the sandals before and he said it is up to personal usage. They have the grip but somehow he prefer to use Crocs and Kampung Adidas.

10% as for which brand? If for Columbia, try to seek those shops first. One at E-Curve (if not mistaken beside McDonald) and the other at a hiking shop at SS2.

For Timberland, the most I obtained before was 35% and that you have to be close with their staff smile.gif

You should specific earlier that it is for winter travel o.O doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

These sportswear are good for winter travel - Lafuma, Columbia, and Quechua.

Seriously, no idea sad.gif Not that familiar with KL. I did once ask my friend from Wangsa Maju to purchase my first pair of Kampung Adidas. She said she purchased from Juke Box. You can give it a try there.

both oso gunung baha n ayam, do we need to hire guide to go up there?
*
Obviously you need one. You wouldn't want to stumble an elephant when you are hiking there right cool2.gif ?

If you are fit, you can do three mountains. If not I will advice you to do either Stong, Stong+Baha

How many days will you be there? Driving or train to Dabong?

Name: Sizuka
Summits conquered: none, but i think i climbed gunung ledang to the waterfall spots last 3 yrs  hmm.gif (which is not that high)
Next target: i dont know my target since i never done any, should be mt. kinabalu?  hmm.gif
frequent workout place: i dont workout/jogging anymore  sweat.gif

my question: i would like to join climbing activity but i do not have strong leg i mean since i had my acl recons few few years back. do u guys think it is possible for someone like me to do this kind of thing without any heavy/consistent workout? what kind of workout should we do before climbing?

where can i find a group who do this activity? i would like to join one if possible.  hmm.gif
*
ACL reconstuction? I would advice to get a doctor opinion first whether outdoor activities suitable for you especially you have undergo that surgery before.

The best workout before climbing would be believe in yourself and stay positive since you are not rushing to the peak.

Normally you can find such group at FB but whether they will take care of you along the way would be my biggest doubt.

QUOTE(SoulPower @ Feb 10 2012, 12:50 PM)
Any idea how to hire a guide coz i google around cant find any contact only got phone number of the forest department. How is the charges?

My trip is more to photography hiking which juz take train from KL-Dabong den do caving den camp at Baha camp site, Next morning see sunrise den hike up to Gunung Stong play natural slide on the waterfall and back to KL again so shd be 2D1N trip.

Can gv me some advise. Thx  smile.gif
*
Charges can be variable. Depends the number of people who are hiking along, whether want accommodation and stuff. 2D1N can be extremely tiring. I would suggest 3D2N.

Example:-

Day 0
- Depart from KL to Dabong (mostly 8-9PM train).

Day 1
- Arrive at Dabong in the morning, breakfast and proceed to Jelawang waterfall (starting point)
- Register, start trek, photograph at Jelawang, bla bla bla reach Camp Baha (campsite) around 3-4 hours
- Got time proceed to Ayam and Stong waterfall (approx 1.5-2 hours) from Kem Baha

Day 2
- Sunrise from Camp Baha
- After sunrise, quick breakfast, hike up to Baha, Ayam then Stong or
- Baha then Stong or
- Stong only.
- Finish trekking - return Camp Baha and rest

Day 3
- Sunrise again doh.gif
- Pack up and return to Jelawang waterfall for some fun time
- Return to starting point
- Depart back to KL.

If you choose to do 2D1N,

Day 2
- Sunrise at Camp Baha
- Hike up and return to Stong summit
- Unpack and quickly return to base camp
- Return to KL

I think I still have the contact number for the guide. Will try to get back for you ASAP.

Yeap. By tomorrow I will able to send you the guide's contact since I will be returning home tonight.

The sliding is Stong waterfall and if you ask me whether Ayam waterfall is nice, I would say "Yeah, why not". But once the weather turning dark or you felt any raindrops, quickly head down or else you will caught yourself in deep shit - flash flood.

Hi,

Anyone been to Bukit Rasa in Bukit Beruntung? Is the trail head clearly visible? Any indication that one should look out for?

Tq.. smile.gif
*
Sorry for the late reply as I have been MIA for almost 1.5 years here. The trail head is clearly visible from the road but once you reach to the flat surface you will need to keep right and navigate a steep sloop. I believe my markers are still there if not mistaken. Good luck.

anyone been to Gunung Tebu before?

Will be going there and camp for 1 nite...
*
Most people do Gunung Tebu for 2 days 1 night but can be done within a day pack. Staying a night up there is quite cooling which will make you awake most of the time. Most people will choose to camp at two location which is not far than one another. Either camp near the written rock where you can see the view of South China Sea or a 5 minutes down where the bonsai gardens are. Also the entry point for water point.

Is this thread still active? i would like to ask the opinion of the fellow hikers here. How many routes are there for Bukit Tabur Extreme? as my first attempt had failed since my team of 4, bumped into "the farmer place" as how people described it,n has a lot of dogs kept inside the fenced area. We supposed to pass through that field but there were unexpectedly 5~6 guard dogs slowly came to us. So we just discontinue our journey n go for Tabur East instead. We were truly disappointed. So is there any other alternative route?
*
For Tabur Extreme there are 3 routes. The easiest route will be from the farmer place which I hope is the same as you describe here. But there is are 2 alternate longer routes which one is a bypass from Tabur East (you could got lost here if you are afraid), and the other start from Kemensah.

hehee...so long ago..but not managed to go due to organizer cancelled the trip.

It is quite easy to hike. Proper trail although some will tend to lost their way if not familiar with hiking. Do take note that Tebu will be close during the monsoon season as flash flood occurred very frequently here. Local refer them as kepala air. You have to call to ask before making your way there smile.gif
