QUOTE(carloz28 @ Dec 29 2012, 09:25 AM)
Rafa had only one bad season and he was off. I won't deny that the CL victory did bought him another 3-4 years in the club but everyone knows the quality he had brought into the club.

High tempo, hard pressing football and zonal marking, although defensive at times but those are guiding principles put Liverpool back at the upper echelons of the football elites for a very long time. Nevermind the silverware. I enjoyed all the games under his tenure. The comebacks. The Europeans nights. The feeling knowing we can beat anyone on a good day. I know it because I truly witnessed the quality of football under him, something I have yet to see under BR.

Rafa did incredibly BAD in his last season?  I don't even know what to call this. Rafa had one bad season in his 5 yrs of managerial career in Liverpool and all the bozos start jumping in and wanted him out. Enuff said. (and i know who you are)

Circumstances? These are just excuses. Given the circumstances that you preached so much, Liverpool may not be banging balls with the big guns which I can accept but to equal Woy's record??? West Ham is above us, Swansea is above us after selling their Welsh Xavi, even the rugby team Stoke is above us. How can we sit back and say BR is doing a good job at the moment? How can you guys look at yourself in the mirror in the morning for saying this?

Come on man, just when everyone thought Woy was the worst manager ever!

When BR came in, he already have a solid core of players he inherited from Kenny or from Rafa literally. He knew what was lacking in the team. He knew what is needed. Can't blame him for the Dempsey fiasco though. I never wanted BR to be sacked, but neither I will sugarcoat his reign so far. The Liverpool spirit i know, is not telling things to make me feel good about the manager and the team and all things are hunky dory atm when the situation is not.

I'm a realist, not an eternal optimist. Save your breath telling me to go support another club. I'm tired of being tired of these replies. Coz that's the only thing they will say to a realist to make them feel better as a fan.

Please, from the start of the season, I knew it's gonna be a rough ride. I never knew it's gonna be THIS BAD.

Happy new year boys.

I share your frustration in the sacking of Rafa. Over the course of few years, the club has been in so much drama that set us back to years of decline. David Moore and Rick Parry have to share the blame for choosing the cowboys because they offer more money.

Like you, I am throwing my fist in frustration whenever we lose and I am not happy with the results at all.

But I do not believe we currently have a choice unless we drive FSG out and ask for a rich Arab royalty to be our next owner.

BR's ability in getting the best out of the youngsters gave me hope for the future but that optimism is not that great until I fantasize his future legacy. No way near that. We just don't have a choice now brother. They sacked Kenny, the person that every players respect and they got rid of his master tactician Steve Clarke and he's doing so well in West Brom which leave an even more sour taste for me.

We have no choice unless we kick FSG out.

No doubt its expensive but Spurs want that 4th spot as bad as us. I don't think it's coincidence that they happen to want the players we wanted. BR wanted Sigurdsson and he ended up at Spurs. BR and LFC were not allowed to bid for Allen until other clubs make their approach. And guess what, Spurs made that approach and we triggerred the release clause. We made it clear we wanted Demspey and surprise, surprise, he ended up at Spurs. I don't think it was all mere coincidence. Levy is a shrewd operator, he knows what he's doing.

patience.

we didn't want RB sacked then, but he was.

we didnt want Dalglish sacked then, but he was.

I don't want Rodgers sacked. it will be a whole mess again. he is a professional, he has a 3 year contract, I say let him (BR) finish it. He has a job to do, we the fans owe it to the club to see this thru, AT LEAST after this season. if we are languishing again at the bottom next season meant his vision isnt bearing fruit, the owners need to slap themselves. The are responsible & are accountable for their choice.

I want rafa to stay there & probably win trophies at chelsea. He has a contract to finish there. I know where his heart (really) is. it's good enough. That man is quality, i never doubted that. It doesn't need to see some good results at chelsea to know his credentials, even after many doubted when he got dished by inter. FSG however will know & learn about that man, after all its a good audition for them to look at cool2.gif

is it just me who worries about building a youthful team? i'm afraid with a youthful team, we'll go through the same stages that Arsenal had gone through. building up a player from youth for them to be sold later on.

with all of the manager's plans this transfer window, i wonder who'll get the boot in the current squad hmm.gif

RYAN Shotton believes today's game against Southampton could be even tougher than Stoke's memorable Boxing Day win over Liverpool.

i'm not saying that we sell them on purpose. just like arsenal had gone through, star players that they've nurtured from a young age are taken away from them given their performance at that time. how will it be different from us? young players who have potential will surely want something bigger and wouldn't pass any opportunity that comes in their way. even our own Gerrard was tempted to move away a long time ago.

That is hard to tell because we dont know what this Yankee is up to. From their US record, they seem to like to build a winning team but probably they are more cautious this time after burning so much cash for our past purchases and with FFP looming, who knows, we may benefit when other teams have to cut their budget down.

Agreed with you. 08/09 team the best. Liverpool was so fast and quick to come out from the gates as soon as the whistle is blown that the opponent didnt even know what hit them. The number of early goals scored in the first quarter during Rafa's charge is incredible and it wore the opponent down from the start. Kept them trailing and running like a dangling carrot in front of the rabbit.

We tore a new one into likes of Madrid, Manchester United and won at Nou Camp, a feat which was considered impossible in those days.

And while we are arguing here, Rafa is tuning the montrous Chelsea into EPL title charge.

And he did not have a large transfer fee I might add hmm.gif

All because these 2 jokers changed their minds from selling to Arabs to selling to the 2 stupid yanks Gillet & Hicks mad.gif

David Moores and Rick Parry are Liverpool fans and I do think it's case of naivity on their behalf. Liverpool have traditionally been a family club and I've no doubt that Moores was committed to wanting the best for the club he loaned $8 million pounds to for Dirk Kuyt. He had the option of selling it to another lifelong Liverpool fan in Steve Morgan, whose offer was rebuffed 3 times if memory serves me. I think it had to do with concerns over whether or not Morgan's $70 million pound offer would provide Rafa with sufficient transfer funds after paying off the shareholders, and taking care of the club's general finances. Also, Morgan proposed a groudshare with Everton which needless to say, didn't sit too well with Liverpool fans. It did however make good financial sense.

I do think that like us, Moores probably bought into the sales pitch of G&H, who if anything, appear to be great salesmen, not realising their true intent. He mentioned how he had to sell the club hessitantly because he no longer felt he had the finances to compete with the other big clubs. He was also later quoted saying that selling the club to G&H was one of the biggest regrets of his life. G&H won the fans over by instantly talking about plans for a new stadium, and sanctioning funds for new transfers. Sanction them they did alright, only instead of investing their own money, they took out sizeable loans from banks like the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The interest payments on Torres' purchase alone was massive. There are suggestions that Moores sold us out to the yanks for more money, but if you owned the club, wouldn't you have wanted to sell it to folk who a) were going to provide funds for us to compete via transfers, a new stadium, etc, and b) make a profit out of it? He got duped I believe and so did we. We ushered them into the gates of Anfield like they were our messiahs.

Parry on the other hand was criticised for not being aggressive enough with transfers and negotiation business deals. This much is true. Look how much better our deals with Standard Chartered and Warrior are compared to Adidas and Carlsberg. We were being shortchanged for years. Says something that we only appointed our first Commercial Director in Ian Ayre, back in 2007 if memory serves me. We finally noted that we had lost out on so much potential revenue from commercial channels. Better late than never I support but what is clear is that Rick Parry was out of his depth in today's football world.

The truth is, ever since the Moore family took over Liverpool in 1992, we have been in decline. We've never seen the holy grail ever since. 20 years of shamble started from the David Moore era.

The one thing that the Americans are very, very, good at is their sales pitch.

In everything they do it's really about business. If the business IS good, the team will be (re)invested to do well.

That, Liverpool will need CL spot (tv money) over any "trophies" if needs be. That's the reality. If we (fan) can realise this, the sooner we have to allow whatever thats in place to hopefully happen instead of another chop & replace session.

FSG has blueprinted some ground works for liverpoolfc, probably more concrete stuffs then mere 'cowboys talk' (G&H).

We are impatient as we have seen even the likes of perpetual 'mid table' clubs overtake us. sad.gif sad.gif

Actually the Moores family have had a stake in the club since the 60's. Only in 1991 however did David Moores become chairman, and the rot begin. I can't really remember how the appointment of Greame Souness was greeted back then (no internet or news coverage), but I imagine fans were largely chuffed to see a former legend take the reigns what with the club's tradition of promoting from within. He however made some bizzare decision, most notable selling players like Beardsley, Houghton and McMahon before they were past their prime, replacing them with mediocre players like Speedie, Clough, Marsh and Walters. There were just too many poor buys to mention. We all know what happened next.

The decision to replace Souness with Evans was as far as I'm concerned a good one. Evans was well liked and respected by the players and his tenure saw the emergence of a talented nucleus of players who played some pretty good attacking football. Then came another baffling decision, to appoint Gerard Houllier as joint manager. Until today, I've not heard of another club do so and for good reason. How can there be two managers in charge, each with is own view on football? Who should the players listen to? I really do wonder how things would have continued to progress under Roy Evans.

In any case, Moores and Parry were too focused with what was happening in the pitch, and did not address more pertinent issues off it. Moores had to sell because he didn't have the money to compete, but he could have had he capitalised on our commercial appeal early in his tenure as chairman. This was their biggest failing.

At the very least FSG have taken action by securing a couple of massive sponsorship deals and some smaller ones as well. What the heck did H&G do but draw a nice picture of a new stadium?

We were a very old fashion club. We had lots of traditions to uphold back then. Having Gerrard houllier itself was an incredible departure, (break in tradition) pretty much unheard of.

But we were already losing so much ground from the likes of ManU when they remodeled themselves the future, while we still left guarding to uphold a lot of old transitions.

While I'm all & glad for a 'real' football club, if we could have identified and had that foresight much earlier, perhaps, perhaps history will be differrent.

It can be said BR is a (potential) manager in a hot seat. 50-50.

FSG didn't want 'big' manager, that we know. (Dalglish) was out of the games so long so it's was 'safe'.

Been a long time since I came, surprised to see so much negativity. sad.gif

Rafa Benitez is a great manager, I really would love to have him back but let us not pretend he is infallible. There were many decisions he made which were absolutely baffling. Substituting Torres or Gerrard off when we need a goal, he dropped Peter Crouch even when he was on form, he prefered Nabil El Zhar over Jermaine Pennant, tried to sell Xabi Alonso to sign Gareth Barry... No doubt he worked under very difficult circumstances under H & G, but there were poor decisions that were made by him alone. Robbie Keane was a poor signing, and his attempt to replace the outgoing Xabi ALonso with the injured Aquilani was another one. And then there was his time at Inter Milan which was to put it mildly, disastrous.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Rafa but every manager makes mistakes, Rafa did as well. So why are we using Rodgers mistakes to beat him up? He is a young manager and he has shown that he is brave enough to adapt, some say Allen was his favourite boy and he won't drop him, but in the last two games he has dropped Allen after some sub-par performances. He is learning from his mistakes and is doing his best to revamp our squad.

Another thing to note is that the squad that Rodgers had inherited is nowhere near good enough. Can he had done better in the last 6 months? Yes, he probably could but our position now in midtable is not entirely unexpected. We have been on a downward trend for many years now. The truth is we have a bunch of players who are grossly overpaid and overrated. Reina hsa been declining and is nowhere near his best. Johnson has always been good going forward but suspect in defending. Kelly is very good but very injury prone. Skrtel and Agger are not world class defenders, they are good defenders, no more than that. Enrique was good for half of last season, and crap for the other half. Gerrard has not been at his best for around three years now. The young players like Shelvey and Sterling has been inconsistent, is that surprising for players at that age? I reckon not. Well, I could go on and on... hmm.gif Surely this issues need to be taken into consideration, Rodgers isn't doing a very good job, but he isn't doing bad either. Give him time, there ain't no quick fix for the mess we are in.

I've seen some people saying that Rodgers isn't making the best of what players he has right now. I'm curious to know how you guys can come to this conclusion? Is it because he prefers to play short passing? Then I would ask, how do you know that we would have done better if we play long ball/direct football? Or is it because he axe Andy Carroll? Any statistical proof that can show us to be better when playing direct football? Was Andy Carroll scoring plenty of goals before he was injured? All these stuff are uncertainties, I don't get how they could be used to criticise Rodgers. The only criticism I have, with the benefit of hindsight, is perhaps player selection but like I said, he has shown that he learns from his mistakes. I reckon we won't see Jonjo tomorrow against QPR.

Nobody knows for sure if Rodgers is the right guy to take us back to the top, but he is just 6 months into his job for god's sake! As supporters we should unite and support our manager, regardless of who he is. If the time comes for him to be sacked for poor performance, then so be it. But right now we should support him, cause you know... That's what 'supporters' are supposed to do. cool.gif
